Thanks for putting these videos out there, I find them very interesting. I was curious about that lift stand you use for your bike, It looks useful just wondering what brand it was. Have a good day sir.
Got an interesting one in today, 77 RM 100. Broken front sprocket shaft broke clen off. Never seen that before, got er torn down, and needs all new gears crank etc. You should see the gear box, wow. Bent rear wheel broken sprocket chain wrapped around wheel. Told me please repair to original do what I can on the costs, if I can find what I need.
You should seriously consider purchasing yourself a quality parts washer. Not only are they much easier to use than a bucket of soapy water, but they do a much better job. It only takes a few minutes to clean even the nastiest of parts, and you don't have to do it on the floor on your hands and knees. Once you start using one, you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.
It never hurts to have a little extra oil in the gas, especially on break in. I always used to mix my gas a bit rich on the oil and never had any trouble with fouling out plugs. A little smoke is better than replacing the top end all the time 👍
During these winter time repairs you seem to be breathing a lot of fumes. Be careful because it is the accumulation the will get you sick. By the way, we just got 2 feet of snow.
Agreed. Joe, please use better ventilation whenever you run these machines indoors. There are a lot of trace metals and chemicals in assembly lubes and 2T oils, that stuff will build up in your body over time, and lead to illnesses years later. This is a big deal that you cannot undo,, after symptoms appear. I've lost several friends to cancer, endocrine, and liver disease, all directly attributed to long-term contact this stuff. They were mechanics (automotive and aircraft) that also didn't take care to minimize or avoid exposure, just as you are now. Seriously, don't troll your audience on this - you are setting a bad example for impressionable young (and not so young) minds.
Is this an advertisement? "Palmolive. Softens hands while doing the dishes" (hand starts to pull from the bowl of soapy water while another gently pushes it back in). Yeah, I'm old. 🤣
I really like this one. Working on rebuilding a 2000 rm125 right now. I just wished I could afford another cylinder for mine. She's toasted. Great vid. I enjoyed it. It would be nice to see it rip without the snow.😂
@taylormarsh7854 yeah I talked with mellinium technologies about fixing it up for a 134cc kit. I think it will run me somewhere around $600 with the piston kit. I just got to wait for my bonus to hit first...lol.
Was the air filter wing nut installed wrong? I believe that the foam goes around the plastic spacer so that the wing nut would not be pressing directly on the foam but onto the spacer. Would be a better seal and less chance of damaging foam and/or wing nut working itself loose.
Big fan and I wait for every single video to drop. Today something dawned on me though… Well, actually it has before but… You go through the whole bike top to bottom front to back and on the four strokes you adjust valves and you always measure your piston ring end gap, but I've never once seen you Measure your piston to cylinder wall clearance? Never once. How come? And I know people are going to jump on here and say "well, he's using a known bore size and a known piston size"… But that doesn't always work..... actually most engine builders wouldn't even consider throwing a piston in without measuring the piston to cylinder wall clearance. Just wondering why you don't? But love the content!!!
he checked it without the ring (by feel).....I mean it either clears or it doesn't. If you arent planning custom machine work and it seems "good enough" I say run it. Its just a dirt bike after all.
I mean, I totally get what you're saying and I've done it too and gotten away with it but it's just nice to know your actual clearance because there is a known figure for that. I mean, you know what I'm saying. I'm certainly not teaching you anything. With piston growth and all that sometimes if you're a few thousands shy you could wind up sticking a piston. Like Wiseco pistons for example. It can be very critical to make sure you have at least the minimum clearance recommended due to it being a forged piston. They didn't get the nickname "SeizeCo" for nothing!!! 😂 That's all I'm trying to say. Thanks for the response.
Its not a hone and i wont do anything besides cleaning cylinder wall , honning process means get a proper clearnace between cyl and piston by measuring them both with proper tools ~ not calipers, it also means …achive nice round and square cylinder walls and crosshatch ,what you do is just wild guess . Good video and i enjoy it
Joe, as a general rule it's considered best practise to initially fill a rebuilt engine with just water. After you know the build is good, drain and refill with appropriate coolant/antifreeze/water level. Saves wasting lots of expensive coolant mix. Love your channel BTW.
Snow pretty wet, bet it's heavy. Been lucky here in S.W. Colorado with dryer snows, my plow only got used like 3 times this winter. 32:1 for MX bikes. Bit rich but manufacturers spec.
I always went with four gallons of 94 octane to one bottle of Yamalube. The increase in performance over Spectro was shocking. Plus, the internals were tons cleaner during rebuilds.

When that nut dropped at 19:00 :o I usually apply a little grease to the gaskets just incase I need to remove them at a later date, prevents ripping them but doesn't affect the seal.Sounds nice and fruity :D Nice job as always
I've said it before and I'll say it again use a quad ramp to walk the bike up with it in first gear and running or stand on the front brake side to use the lever for a stop if you decide to walk it up without it running its alot easier.

@@stkyfngrszmooth Ya old commercial, i'm old also.
This was me as a teen after school or on weekends. We use to ride on ice too. Almost all dirt bikes back then were 2 strokes. LOL good time.
I really like this one. Working on rebuilding a 2000 rm125 right now. I just wished I could afford another cylinder for mine. She's toasted. Great vid. I enjoyed it. It would be nice to see it rip without the snow.😂
Send it away and get it repaired!
@taylormarsh7854 yeah I talked with mellinium technologies about fixing it up for a 134cc kit. I think it will run me somewhere around $600 with the piston kit. I just got to wait for my bonus to hit first...lol.
Oh Vinny gets excited when you fire em up😁
Was the air filter wing nut installed wrong? I believe that the foam goes around the plastic spacer so that the wing nut would not be pressing directly on the foam but onto the spacer. Would be a better seal and less chance of damaging foam and/or wing nut working itself loose.
Great job as usual, I feel sorry about your neighbors. These bikes really loud.
A more informative video. I’m not sure if you ever mentioned. What do you do with all the bikes and quads you have rebuilt?
Vinny loves the snow 🐶
Good video and i enjoy it
Your one of a kind Joe. Great man
Them engines from back in the day sound like heaven ❤😊
Brilliant video Joe watching from Edinburgh Scotland UK 🇬🇧 👏 👍
Joe, as a general rule it's considered best practise to initially fill a rebuilt engine
with just water. After you know the build is good, drain and refill with appropriate
coolant/antifreeze/water level. Saves wasting lots of expensive coolant mix.
Love your channel BTW.
Wrong!!! You put grape soda in the radiator. Perfect blend of sugar and water. Then drain and drink
Not a bike guy but love watching the channel. Shaun from Ireland
BRAVO, your knowledge and patience are amazing. Sounds great, nice day for a ride
lmao
It’s detonating from being to lean piston is very lean by the look of carbon pattern
So they were running the mix to lean? Is why it’s all black ? Wild
Main jet too small
@@offroadenthusiasts yes 👍
@@jakeslouw3416 correct but it could be needle or pilot lean
@@jakeslouw3416 so tell me why I rebuilt a kdx 200 correctly by spec and when I started it it instantly popped really loud as soon as it fired and never ran again didn’t tear it back apart bc I was too pissed 😤 😂
hi i am paul from the uk, your vids are amazing your one hell of a mehcanic keep em comming but can i ask, a while ago you did a vid on a goldwing, and many other bikes do you ever sell them on, if so how much did the goldwing go for just curious as in england even bad ish ones are going for silly money thanks guy keep up the good work
Been watching you for a long time, love your channel. I look forward too your videos.
Man, I miss riding in the snow like that! I moved from the Midwest 20 years ago ... no snow in Phoenix, AZ
No parts cleaner solvent tank even I have one why don't you got one
I wondered same thing, with all the rebuilds he does 😅
Dude drives me nuts that he doesn't clean engine parts. Wipes them off with a paper towel and calls it good. 😂
Lift would help too.
He's a chancer it's all set up for him He never gets them running properly, all he lusts for more subscribers and more views. A bit like Trump.
@@michi_danksta I think he does it on purpose, just to piss-off the viewers.
Again, super good job on diagnosis and repair....thank you for all the effort you put in to make this video...
Unbelievable sight, Joe is actually cleaning the Top End.
Lol I always clean the top end
Half ass clean job
Just because you don't see it on the video doesn't mean he doesn't clean it.
Joe's wife makes him sit down to pee so when he is in the garage he isn't cleaning anything!!!
G@@yokomzare201I won't clean it either.
When that nut dropped at 19:00 :o I usually apply a little grease to the gaskets just incase I need to remove them at a later date, prevents ripping them but doesn't affect the seal.Sounds nice and fruity :D Nice job as always
The wee dog is full of energy hes cute 👍🏻
Vinnie sure loves those quads ha ha
Thank God! That the cylinder nut didn't fall all the way down into the crank case! Below the crank!!!!
I've said it before and I'll say it again use a quad ramp to walk the bike up with it in first gear and running or stand on the front brake side to use the lever for a stop if you decide to walk it up without it running its alot easier.
Get sponsors! You will make bank! Doing a great job man!
Who the hell would sponsor him. They would only hurt themselves. He doesn't have a clue about engines.
@@stevebradley8512 maybe a parts washer manufacturer 😂
