      @@BoltActionProductions Well, I don't do this often enough to justify buying the special tool (yes, I'm frugal) although it is a lot easier so I used the penny method and, I have to say, it worked quite well: ruclips.net/video/l-4iOIbeJgQ/видео.html

    So what’s next? Cleaning the chamber? It often misses out when cleaning the barrel.
    Other things would be inspecting the crown, checking torque settings on actions screws and scope mounts and rings. Be interesting to talk different rifles and the order to tighten action screws that can create total havoc.

    Thanks for getting straight into it mate. Can't stand some of the videos out there where the guy is waffling on for about 5 minutes before actually getting into what the video is about.
    Now, i was told by the firearms safety instructor to NEVER use carby or brake cleaner on your guns. So what gives? Like if you're willing to use it on a Sako, why can't i use it on my Stirling Model 14? LoL Also regarding oil, would a bit of Castrol Magnatec be ok to use?

    • @BoltActionProductions
      @BoltActionProductions  Год назад +1

      Not a fan of waffling myself whether it be talking or simple physical actions. Carby cleaner or similar needs to be used in an isolated manner when it comes to firearms. I certainly wouldn't use it on an assembled rifle but when it comes to just disassembled metal parts it gets the job done without issue. Triggers or in this case the bolt there will be no issue. I personally wouldn't be using Magnatec. You really want a fine machine oil of some form with little to no residue. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

      A wise gunsmith once told me his method for doing similar. He recommended applying some Copper Antiseize grease using a Q tip on the rear of the locking lugs. I have done this for years to my older Sako's, keeping a small amount of the Copper Anitseize in a old film container. Thanks for watching Bryan.

      My Ruger MK1 bolt appeared to have while lithium grease on the spring the first time I pulled it down. I had had a trigger kit and high tension firing pin spring put in when I first bought it, so that would probably have been the gun smith rather than Ruger. I’ve maintained a light and I do mean light coating of lithium grease on there ever since. That’s 30odd years now with no harm done. My Howa and Walther bolts on the other hand get a light oiling, which is more about rust protection than anything. Key thing is to use an oil that doesn’t go gummy.
