It has been proven that women are usually smarter than guys when it comes to doing stupid stuff such as jumping off roofs and filming dangerous up close tornadoes from their porches.
Funny how while it's over water it sort of looks a bit harmless, then as soon as it hits land all of a sudden it's a tornado and takes on an entirely different presence.
Great job of recording! Now Lisa was just being cautious and she was actually right about not knowing where it could turn. I've seen many crazy tornadoes here in Iowa.
For all of those people commenting on how it just looks like a large Dust Devil, please remember that the last minutes of the video don't show the funnel cloud because of the balcony above me. The funnel cloud is still there, I just can't film it. You see this fact earlier in the clip while it is still out over the water. The funnel just above the spinning water is clear. Also, all this talk about it not being dangerous is foolish. The walkways it picked up and threw into the air were quite heavy. Heavier than myself. It would have thrown a grown man several hundred feet in any direction including up.
yeah i live in AZ and i see dust devils all the time, this was a very strong waterspout and while it is not as powerful as a tornado ( like what happened in myrtle beach) but it is very strong.
It's definitely a tornadic waterspout, it is powerful enough to take a roof off of a house. When I lived in the keys we would see them a lot and some were harmless enough that people would go through them in boats for the fun of it and some you could tell were powerful enough to do extensive damage like this one and they did. My neighbor at the end of our road had half of his roof tiles ripped off and his windows all smashed out on one side of his house and it didn't even hit him directly so some of they are supposedly called tornadic waterspouts when they are that powerful from what I hear. Cool video, they are definitely a sight to see!
Lovely clip, Jeremy, and your comments are accurate. I don't blame your wife for worrying, even though I'd be more like the people on the beach, since I love natural phenomena. Still, one should never underestimate the speed and power of those winds, and the damage flying debris can cause.
wow, this is amazing. thank you for being so persistent with filming this entire event. it must have been crazy staring right at that spout, but the footage you took when it was approaching the beach was amazing. being so close to see the vortex of water suspended in air, and having such a good record that can be watched any number of times. Humanity and science need more of this stuff
***** Sure, it would help the person hysterically screaming. Not the rest of the people, trying to actually make correct decisions in a stressful, life-threatening situation. Of course I don't care about them or that... I am hysterically screaming.
Thanks for Sharing, we were there that day about a 1/2 mile north watching as it came by the hotel. Such an extraordinary thing to see, I am glad you got a good video of it.
omg ur wife is....loud?! if thats the right word for it lol! i know she was worried but wow! if i ever yelled at my husband like that he'd think i was a crazy person. awesome video tho! ur lucky to have experienced this! ive always wanted to watch a tornado... ive had a curiosity when it comes to twisters since i was a kid.
I go to Carolina Beach! I see a condo I've drove past 😊 That's insane! The things I'm scared of in the ocean, this, hurricane, typhoon, whirlpool, creatures. But I still love it
Be very careful of these. They are offshore tornadoes. Boaters get hit and the boat can lift off the water, throwing the occupants around. I don't know the damage/danger of being killed by one, but I'd respect them a LOT especially when they come to shore. And waterspouts can appear almost entirely transparent, being made only of water. If you can see it on the water, it's a fully formed spout. Finally, once on land, they can power-up and cause significant injury/damage. It only takes seconds for a tornado to form, so a water spout is a head start on the process. All of that being said, I hope no one was hurt, and I'm with you, I would have done exactly as you did and video the whole thing. I loved every minute of it!
Just found your video. It came right across the condo we were staying in. We never knew it because we slept right through it. After the Early Bird fishing trip on Winner we were exhausted. lol. I thought the teenagers had went nuts with water on the deck.
To people ragging on this guys wife that was screaming...if MY husband was going to be sucked into a tornado I’d say GET THE HECK OUT OF THERE TOO. She does it because she cares about the husband. She’s a good wife. She was worried her husband was going to get KILLED. The guy should have listened to her and cared about what she was saying. Any good husband should be protecting himself and his wife.
+jeremy kesler tip for the future, if a spinning vortex looks like its standing still (alas looking at you), that means it's either coming towards or away from you. Either way, get cover anyway. Good Job staying safe.
This video was so cool and your the lady in the background was so cute "get inside!!!!" What I'm wondering is why all those people on the beach waited until it got close to try and run away .lol
I wanna slap some of these people that were on the beach with CHILDREN. There was something EXTREMELY close by that posed a MAJOR threat to a child and they waited til the last second to leave. I saw several people scoop up small kids just moments before the funnel hit the shoreline. Irresponsible.
my grandpa used to live in florida and one day a waterspout came right down the canal practically in his backyard! it didnt hit his house but just kept twirling down the canal as if it was guided by it.
This is not just a waterspout. It's a tornadic waterspout. Tornado forming over water and continuing, instead of weakening, once it moves to land. True waterspouts are weak and form via convective means. Once they reach land and lose the energy of the warm waters, they tend to dissipate.
This was not a tornadic waterspout. Look at the bottom of the vapor funnel. Also, no thunderstorm that it was attached to, nor a wall cloud. This would've had an 85mph max. Barely an EF-0
Incredibly risky, but big thanks for filming as long as you did. From other videos I've seen, it looks like a harmless dust devil but it's not, and can easily whip large objects into the air. Standing close to it seems like you'd be sandblasted with dust, or worse, run the risk of being hit by flying objects. No thanks. After seeing this i'll know to take cover.
kmj2000 There's a new video of a Water Spout coming onto land in Fort Lauderdale yesterday... Watch it and see what that small Water Spout does to a bounce house. Then imagine what the one I saw would have done.
jeremy kesler I saw that one, and it's what made me seek out other videos. From far away it is deceptive. It looks pretty harmless, but it's definitely not.
That was me somewhere in the forefront with my kids. While so many ran, we manned it out. I told my kids waterspouts aren't powerful and nobody would get hurt. I was right!
Two types, Fair Weather Water Spouts (weaker) and Tornadic Water Spouts (stronger). The Tornadic stronger type are associated with Thunderstorms that form over the water.
Jeremy, you did a fantastic job with this footage. This was not a tornadic waterspout btw, it was not connected to a supercell. But it was great nevertheless! We have them here in The Netherlands too, quite a lot actually We also have tornadoes every year, But luckily not as powerfull as those in Tornado Alley. I chase them, but am always too early, too late or just at the wrong side of the storm! Fortunately, we have youtube!! Thx again!
I wouldn't be so sure. If you watch the end of the video you'll see two large wooden walk ways lifted up into the air. One of them at least 100'. I'd say they both would weigh several hundred pounds. So, anything in the several hundred pounds range: walkway, motorcycle... human...
I believe this is a tornado that formed over water and not a true water spout. The wind speeds and size appear too great for a true waterspout, which does not form the same way an actual tornado does.
When a waterspout comes onland it immediately becomes a tornado, and quite often they gain strength too so you guys a quite lucky that you were not in its path, my sypathies for losing your chairs aha, just curious did it do any structural damage??
people dont realise, a water spot has enough force to rip up a roof, toss a car around, which means i can make short work of people. just because is can be smaller it still is a tornado.
that's really neat though id hate to see that lady in the storm we had here in Texas a few months back lol just wind did FAR more damage then that thing
Since I am from NC, I got tickled... we Carolina women can do some freaking out when our folks are in danger!!! I sit here and listen and think... oh my goodnesssss... that would be ME screaming
Them kinds of rude people don't understand nothing bout Southern girls or getting their eyes put out with flying sand from a whirlwind!!! All the best! Wishing it were a hot sunny day so I could be on the beach!
CSX Railfan Productions 2014 Not to a waterspout of this intensity. It would have to be much smaller. I wouldn't want to be caught out in this waterspout. Dust devils can be fun too as long as you have eye protection! Lol
Not the first tornado video I've seen where a man continues to hold the camera while a woman nearby continues to yell at him to stop and take cover.
Women tend to be smarter than us
Debatable
*****
Yes, and if you're hiding from a murderer it also alerts them to your location ;)
Chockarblock lmao
It has been proven that women are usually smarter than guys when it comes to doing stupid stuff such as jumping off roofs and filming dangerous up close tornadoes from their porches.
Anyone else notice the white shirted dude at 6:14 just casually walking off the beach even though there's a giant tornado behind him?
Funny how while it's over water it sort of looks a bit harmless, then as soon as it hits land all of a sudden it's a tornado and takes on an entirely different presence.
Great job of recording! Now Lisa was just being cautious and she was actually right about not knowing where it could turn. I've seen many crazy tornadoes here in Iowa.

+jeremy kesler I gotta thank you Jeremy, for not listening to Lisa.
yeah i live in AZ and i see dust devils all the time, this was a very strong waterspout and while it is not as powerful as a tornado ( like what happened in myrtle beach) but it is very strong.
+Justin Walnum - Was a waterspout. A big one...note how it broke up when it hit land.
I saw another video of this spout from a greater distance where lifeguards are calling you bystanders a bunch of idiots.😂
Nope, right next to the Marriott and the public beach access.
Thank-you for not listening to Lisa btw. Props to you! ;D
It's definitely a tornadic waterspout, it is powerful enough to take a roof off of a house. "Do you here me?"
"Lisa, hush."
"You need to get in."
"Hush."
"GET INSIDE NOW!"
😂😂😂😂😂
Thank you, Mr. Kesler. For this wonderful recording of unique Nature.
Lovely clip, Jeremy, and your comments are accurate. I don't blame your wife for worrying, even though I'd be more like the people on the beach, since I love natural phenomena. Still, one should never underestimate the speed and power of those winds, and the damage flying debris can cause.
The best Waterspout video I've seen splendid job there Jeremy
Lisa: SDLFKGLKSFDGJLKSFDG Jeremy: Hush Lisa.... LOL!
Haha Jeremy don't feel bad my girl would've done & said the same the entire time as well. Amazing capture, thanks for sharing
I can't believe those people were still swimming for so long and just hanging on the beach. Loved hearing your wife!!! That would be me too!!
wow, this is amazing. thank you for being so persistent with filming this entire event. it must have been crazy staring right at that spout, but the footage you took when it was approaching the beach was amazing. being so close to see the vortex of water suspended in air, and having such a good record that can be watched any number of times. I love how people were standing out on the beach even when there's a freaking waterspout heading right toward them.
i know they are just like oh look at tornado! i should just sit and watch that sounds smart 😒
That scenario is amazing. It looks like a movie. good work
This is great video! Steady, high quality, and dramatic. Amazing!
I always find screaming helps in a stressful, potentially dangerous situation. You know, like during fire drills or while arguing with others....
***** Sure, it would help the person hysterically screaming. Not the rest of the people, trying to actually make correct decisions in a stressful, life-threatening situation. Of course I don't care about them or that... I am hysterically screaming.
It was associated with a black thunder cloud. Thats a tornado over water. Once on land, its a regual tornado and youd better get out of its way.
Lisa "JEREEEEEEMMMMYYYYY"
Thanks for Sharing, we were there that day about a 1/2 mile north watching as it came by the hotel. Such an extraordinary thing to see, I am glad you got a good video of it.
Just wow!
I've watched some fab thunderstorms out at sea here in the UK but nothing as impressive as this!
badass. the motion and separate vortices look capable of at least ef1 damage, maybe even ef2.
omg ur wife is....loud?! if thats the right word for it lol! i know she was worried but wow! if i ever yelled at my husband like that he'd think i was a crazy person. awesome video tho! ur lucky to have experienced this! ive always wanted to watch a tornado... ive had a curiosity when it comes to twisters since i was a kid.
Uhh, people, better start running.
Love the video, it is not something we get to see often from the land down under =]
Awesome, breath-taking video! Thank you for sharing!
" you don't know which way it's gonna tuuuuurn!!" Lol
Why did she scream when clearly you were already inside just had to close the back door ?
I dont think windows offer much protection against tornados/waterspouts.
Sorry if I sound like a nag, but your wife was right. That tornado could've changed directions at any moment. Also, congrats on surviving the tornado!
You're right. Yes, I got the shot... but I also could have gotten a piece of debris in my cornea...
I go to Carolina Beach! I see a condo I've drove past 😊 That's insane! The things I'm scared of in the ocean, this, hurricane, typhoon, whirlpool, creatures. But I still love it
Great video Jezza. Mother nature Full HD 60p in all its glory. Was a beautiful sight to behold.
That was beautiful. Great vid.
I must say, this is really amazing footage.
Just saw your video on TV, awesome man!

I LOVE RUclips, and people that know what they're doing with a camera : )
Great video! .... A few chairs is a small price to pay to witness a once-in-a-lifetime experience such as that!
Great footage brother. Thanks for sharing.
Just found your video. It came right across the condo we were staying in. We never knew it because we slept right through it. After the Early Bird fishing trip on Winner we were exhausted. lol. I thought the teenagers had went nuts with water on the deck.
Geez lady, no wonder men call us hysterical. Thanks for that.

Wow great vid. RIP chairs. You're previous owners miss you greatly.
Atleast it was a waterspout nor then a deadly twister! :) god bless your family for being safe God was watching y'all
To Lisa, If he didnt listen to you after the first two warnings, stop telling him. Let him find out the hard way.
I saw this on the weather channel, haha. My mum & I were watching it. I was commenting on how I would've ran inside if I saw that!
Wow that was wild...great video!

kmj2000 Thanks, I knew somebody out there would appreciate the smooth video. The next one will be in 4k... if there is a next time!
Very cool video! Thanks for sharing.
I cant believe the people so close to it as it came ashore. CRAZY!! Awesome video

Awesome waterspouts are cool! Not strong tho you could have stayed outside and been fine!
NAG NAG NAG!! LOL
Great video, thanks.
Since I am from NC, I got tickled... we Carolina women can do some freaking out when our folks are in danger!!! I sit here and listen and think... oh my goodnesssss... that would be ME screaming
Our accents, though... it enhances our screeching and hollering!
Thank you Ruth for understanding! There's a lot of negativity on here towards someone just trying to protect her family.
Them kinds of rude people don't understand nothing bout Southern girls or getting their eyes put out with flying sand from a whirlwind!!! All the best! Wishing it were a hot sunny day so I could be on the beach!
Ruth Sills Oh I'm the same way lol I'm from around Charlotte
Can you walk close to a waterspout?
CSX Railfan Productions 2014 Not to a waterspout of this intensity. It would have to be much smaller. I wouldn't want to be caught out in this waterspout. Dust devils can be fun too as long as you have eye protection! Lol
I WAS THERE!
The transformation from waterspout to dust devil O_O
I can't understand why it didn't pull more sand up. The inland ones can often uproot trees.
dang.. I'd love to see a waterspout that close.
My condolences go to those chairs.....You will be missed very dearly, rest in peace.
i was there- super frightening when it turned into a land tornado and came on top of the mariott hotel! (my hotel)
"There goes our chairs"
Lol. " there goes my chair."
Very cool video... except the nagging in the background.. haha
You know that those are really comen and usually split into 3 or 2 right!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Isn't it unusual for tornados/waterspouts to move from east to west?
Amazing
that's pretty cool
If you look at one of the guys on the left he starts struggling to not get sucked in
Sweet tube
hey really nice man and thanks-!
Your wife is cracking me up yelling at you haha! But I'd be doing the same to my husband. Great video
I didn't know myrtle beach had a tornado?
now ya kno
If you went inside we would have missed that. Thanks for the risk. Cheers :)
