I’ve been playing both, late to these games. PGA 2K23 has poor graphics and smooth controls. Player development is very limited and after just a few rounds you can easily master the controls, too easily. What’s missing here is depth and challenge. EA on the other hand controls well, but it is very challenging to master the controls. Control variety and environmental impact is really impressive. The game now has a 60fps performance mode and 30fps quality mode. The career mode is essentially an RPG, developing and improving your player. There is real drama in playing through career mode with the level of challenge. This is a beautiful and complete golf game.
Spot on assessment of both games and well said. Your ideas at the end are all I've ever wanted out of a golf video game. I like the idea in a new game where you might be able to get a hot dog and a gatorade at the turn to get a little stat boost. Would be hilarious if you can go the the clubhouse bar or flag down the beer cart. Maybe your golfer has a alcohol management attribute where you get a stat boost after the first few beers and then your stats start declining if you have too much. I doubt that would ever be in a video game but doesn't get more realistic than that.
Dude thanks so much! We have to keep our fingers crossed 🤞, one day we will get that country club life golf simulator baby! Really appreciate you watch the whole video and dropping a comment!
I bought 2k23 on sale and tried out EA's game on EA Play. Overall, I'm kinda disappointed with both. EA looks great and plays bad, 2K looks bad and plays better, and both have minor annoying flaws that get in the way. In the end they both make me wish I was back in 2010 playing Tiger Woods Online in a browser. Not a great golf sim but it didn't forget to be a video game, it was just plain fun and had chatrooms, and most importantly a great selection of courses including St. Andrews, Greenbrier, Banff, Harbour Town and all my favorites. If I had to pick a winner I'd pick EA solely for the course list but I don't think either game would have me coming back to play it regularly. I'm just not feeling the fun factor earlier golf games had.
Ok I have pga 2k23. I was really hoping the career mode was more of I have to put points into power to get a longer shot, like nba 2k series. However it feels just like The golf club 19 and pga 2k21. Whereas it's more of what fit you put on your clubs to effect how your guy plays (even though the other 2 where more of what club I choose but still the same concept). That is fine but I really wanted to have a career mode where I add points to get better at putting/distance/accuracy etc. The skill portion in 2k is ok, but it's more of how well or not so well you are doing to effect what bonus you get. I don't like it and I feel it's a wasted part of the game. Maybe it's better for online play? IDK I only play offline. Do you think EA is worth it (once it goes on sale as I do not buy any of these games new with the crazy prices now lol) or should I just stick with 2k? I mean 2k fine but that is the one big thing I miss, is building up my character in the old fashion way.
I totally get what you mean. 2k relies on the club fitting and golf ball upgrade packs to make you hit farther, have more spin, bounce, roll...ext. the skill tree is really situational based you miss 2 fairway then you get a boost from the ruff, and then lastly you have your attitude wheel that can't be modified but has 6 different types that you can switch to, power, huntsman, greensman, woodsman,....I don't remember every one but yes you can switch those as much as you like and they move your skills around but are locked in and can't be changed in each category. It's kinda a messy system but you get used to it. The new EA game is a lot more straight forward. You earn points, you add those points to your skill section, like putting, driving, approach and you improve in that area, and if you unlock enough spaces in that area you also unlock new shot types to add to your game, like spinner, Texas wedge, blast, power drive...ext. It is much more straight forward system like the old Tiger Woods games, or Tony Hawk games. You level up get a point, add the point to what you want to become better at and now you can drive the ball farther. I think you would definitely like the career mode. I agree with you 💯 don't go spend 70 bucks on this game right now unless you are trying to become competitive in the online multiplayer and reach the leaderboards then there is really no reason to buy this now. Besides they will get some updates and bug fixes into the game by then and I'm sure it will play much smoother. It can be a bit ruff here and there. The Only thing I will warn you on is this. Currently unless they change it. When you are in career mode there are only 2 options for all events. Full and quick. Full is all 18 holes, 4 rounds. Quick is 4 holes, 4 rounds. There are no 2 round options or 9 hole round options or ways to modify or whatever. It's either play all 72 holes of an event, or just play a few random holes from from all 4 days. Just a heads up. Maybe they will change that in an update or something, but that's what it is currently. It also take quite a bit longer to play a round than it does in 2k so 4 rounds is going to take you a min. I like in 2k where I can set up 1, 2, 3, or 4, 18 hole rounds it's a nice option. If you have ea play or game pass Road to the Master will eventually be free on there I'm assuming. Usually takes like 6 months for the Madden and FIFA games to hit it. And I'm sure this will have summer sales coming up. I think you would like the career mode. In a perfectly world we could get these 2 to combine and have an awesome golf game! But for now we have to pick one.....or buy both lol
@@Sleeve1080 Thanks the the explanation on a few things! Yea the full or part rounds kind of sucks. I like playing every hole but in 2k I usually do 2 rounds for normal courses, 3 for championships and 4 for majors. Oh well I guess I will have to just do all 4 rounds for each course lol. Yes, that is what I am looking for, for career mode. Like as much as I like 2k (especially the 3 click system, reminds me of the old Links games I loved and I don't break my joysticks doing the swing lol) I just do not like how they do the skills and such. I get that is a way to keep online more balance, but for someone like me who doesn't play online, I would just like a normal XP build up my guy the old fashion way. Yea prices for games are crazy! However, I see a ton of games go on sale pretty quick so I can wait a couple of months. Still waiting on WWE game to go on sale so I can play GM mode lol.
@@LegendaryOldwarrior well be glad that you are playing 2k today because most people aren't playing EA at all right now. The newest update just crashed the game completely. Most people can't get past the main menu screen. This was as of 3 hrs ago. I haven't logged in and checked myself but Ive seen multiple reports of this and a couple videos. I'm about to log in on PC and Xbox and check. But yeah give it some time it will get patched and go on sale. I have game pass and that includes EA play so I got the 10 hr demo in Xbox and PC. I played about 15 hours and that was enough for me to wait on this one to go to EA play so I can play it for free. Don't get me wrong ive had fun playing it but not enough to drop 70 bucks especially in the state that it's in currently. I'm going to just keep playing and enjoying 2k for the time being it has its moments but all around it is a pretty solid game. Let EA get there stuff together and then snag it on sale and enjoy the career mode.
@@Sleeve1080 Yep that is what I am always worried about with EA games. They have problems. I can for sure wait especially with the problems they have. Hopefully in 2 or 3 months they have a lot of it fix out and the price comes down a good amount. 2k you are right is fun and really good golf game, just the career mode on how I get my guy better I just do not enjoy.
EA has a great game, the career mode and, in my opinion, the highlight of the game: the daily/weekly tournaments, are awesome. Ball and roll physics are realistic, graphics are good, crowds and announcers are immersive. The only downside imo is that the swing is too easy, even on the hardest difficulty. If you’re coming from 2K and enjoy the difficulty and responsiveness of the swing line and tempo, EA will feel pretty underwhelming. It feels like the difficulty of the game is directly tied to the level of your character and not how good you actually are at the mechanics. I’ve intentionally tried to have the worst swing I can with sporadic movements of the stick at around level 35 and the ball still goes relatively where I aim everytime, it’s weird. In 2K I have to concentrate hard on every shot to avoid massive shanks, in EA I can just casually hit perfects with a beer in my other hand lol but that might be something you like. If 2K is too hard or you typically play on an easier difficulty setting, then you might love EAs swing mechanics. If you like the intense challenge and punishing nature of 2K, EA might get boring for you after a couple dozen hours, especially if you’ve leveled up your guy a lot and have already played through the career mode. Also in case this matters to you, on PC, the peak player count on steam the last couple weeks has been like 650 people, in 2K, it’s like average 2-3 thousand. Anyways, EAs game is great and I’d even say it’s worth its full price, but only if you like an easier game that focuses much more on presentation and rpg mechanics instead of being challenging and a true test of the players ability and consistency.
Dude thank you! I didn't know you could disable the rivalry replays. I'll definitely disable that. They do it right in the middle of your hole and it gets annoying. I don't mind seeing them in between holes but on my second shot in the middle of a hole is crazy. Is there a way to disable those but keep your own highlights? That's what I would like. Can't stand the rivalry replays. Also I do like a lot of stuff in EA's game but I think people are getting caught up in the graphics and atmosphere but when it comes down to it I think the worst part about the A's game is the golf. I have a feeling that's why they didn't include a driving range or a they don't want you to practice find out how off the games swing and putting mechanics actually are. Not saying that it couldn't be adjusted in future updates and maybe if they do the game will become a lot better. But for now for me hitting a ball in 2k just feels so much better and more realistic to me. Regardless both games could make some improvements and be a lot better. I think having 2 titles will drive the next round of releases to be better regardless. I'm curious to see what we get in 2025! Exciting stuff
@@Sleeve1080 Sorry for hijacking the thread here but you can 100% have your replays stay on and have rivalry/pro highlights off. There are some sounds this game has that has some good detail to it that you don't hear cus of the commentary, like planes flying over head and distant birds chirping, etc...
