At this point, you kinda have to automatically give DBZ an S rank based solely on nostalgia, popularity, and all around influence it had on not just the anime industry but on the generation that saw it and fell in love with it back when it aired on Toonami in the early 2000s (like me). That series is the godfather of shonen, and it deserves respect.
Easy S. The 1st 2 ep world builds then every ep after ends on a twist/ cliffhanger. The suspense and battles are on point the show hits the ground running. The only slow part was the school festival w/ Lulu chasing the cat that had his mask and even that arch had good suspense. CLAMP dropped the 🎤
connor connor I say it is a B+. The show gets me with its edginess and it’s dope anime eye power in the form of geass. The problem I have is the show is a more tell and not show. I’m going to use death note for example, I just recently watched it and declared it the best anime of all time and what it does better than geass is showing and not telling. When Kira or L do some crazy shit they show you then they tell you it with some crazy ass music maybe someone getting killed or someone being a hella smart genius. In geass it would just be lelouch saying he did something plus geass has multiple plot holes, questionable marketing/Fujo baiting, weak character and some wasted potential but it’s still very amazing and worth watching

One Piece all the way to me. It's a hell of a ride even with the looming threat of its ending not being what people might expect. Honestly that might be the point as I think we're supposed to value the adventure more than its conclusion. That's the beauty of a good Shonen anime you watch your characters develop themselves and their skills as combatants.

The problem is, people seem to think that you need deaths in an anime to have emotional weight and impact, but that's not always the case. While I agree that death certainly raises the stakes in an anime such as MHA, it doesn't necessarily need that to push both the story and characters forward. All Might didnt need to die for that seen where he tells Deku it's his turn to have weight. Iida didnt need to die for deku and company to see the power ceiling that they are nowhere near with Stain. MHA academia has emotion and weight behind every encounter even without death because it doesn't need to rely on that very familiar trope to push a character's story... It does that all on its own with stellar character development and plotlines.

Dragonball hold more nostalgic than anything though, the writing was never impressive. Dylan had a good point, on the power scaling and a plethora of other flaws plagued in that show. Which doesn't mean its not great. My hero's writing has been pretty great through out. Do you even know the real dbz timeline? The androids whom Dr. Gero created, 17 and 18. Goku got a rare heart disease and couldn’t be cured so he died. The rest of the characters try to stop the androids but they weren’t strong enough. The last main characters left are bulma, gohan, and trunks. Gohan takes trunks as his student to help him reach super sayian but in the process gohan try’s to stop the androids and leaves trunks behind by knocking him out so gohan wouldn’t hold back in the fight. When trunks wakes up he finds his dead master which unleashed trunks’s power (super sayian). Years later trunks finally kills the androids. You see, dbz was actually a good story and a little dark but fans wanted more and that’s what made the story all stupid

One Piece all the way to me. It's a hell of a ride even with the looming threat of its ending not being what people might expect. Honestly that might be the point as I think we're supposed to value the adventure more than its conclusion. That's the beauty of a good Shonen anime you watch your characters develop themselves and their skills as combatants.

Dragon Ball has better art,music and characters. I think the deaths hit hard even though yeah I agree it sucks that they bring them back to life.
The problem is, people seem to think that you need deaths in an anime to have emotional weight and impact, but that's not always the case. While I agree that death certainly raises the stakes in an anime such as MHA, it doesn't necessarily need that to push both the story and characters forward. All Might didnt need to die for that seen where he tells Deku it's his turn to have weight. Iida didnt need to die for deku and company to see the power ceiling that they are nowhere near with Stain. MHA academia has emotion and weight behind every encounter even without death because it doesn't need to rely on that very familiar trope to push a character's story... It does that all on its own with stellar character development and plotlines.
It's all nostalgia, dbz isn't bad but if you go back and watch it isn't as good as you remember

Dragonball hold more nostalgic than anything though, the writing was never impressive. Dylan had a good point, on the power scaling and a plethora of other flaws plagued in that show. Which doesn't mean its not great. My hero's writing has been pretty great through out. Do you even know the real dbz timeline? The androids whom Dr. Gero created, 17 and 18. Goku got a rare heart disease and couldn’t be cured so he died. The rest of the characters try to stop the androids but they weren’t strong enough. The last main characters left are bulma, gohan, and trunks. Gohan takes trunks as his student to help him reach super sayian but in the process gohan try’s to stop the androids and leaves trunks behind by knocking him out so gohan wouldn’t hold back in the fight. When trunks wakes up he finds his dead master which unleashed trunks’s power (super sayian). Years later trunks finally kills the androids. You see, dbz was actually a good story and a little dark but fans wanted more and that’s what made the story all stupid
