Thank you Pyrion! So many documentaries focus on how the brits explorers of arctic areas were heroic and had "bad luck", while the norwegians were lucky and used "savage" methods by eating their dogs etc. The brits doing it their own way, even if ot meant death, while the norwegians learned from the people who lived their life in those conditions. While on a party in the royal geographical society the head of the society made a toast to honor Scott, and Amundsens dogs, not giving praise to Amundsen for achieving his goal. I find a lot of british documentaries about british explorers focus a lot on keep going against suffering (even if it is because of the lack of preparations, or "bad luck"), and working against the forces of nature showing them contempt instead of working with them.
you sure put a lot of words in their mouth
@@Normandy-e8i not really
”I think that's ego, not foolishness....”
So a distinction without a difference.
can confirm we only have 3 people here in NZ
"People played it since it came out and are still playing it"
"Yeah that's worrying to think about"
So Lewis, how's TTT, Gmod build, Minecraft and GTAV? 😂
The point was that people have played it basically every day. Nothing wrong with coming back to something you love over and over if you always take breaks in between to enjoy and focus on other stuff.
But playing something for years on end WITHOUT a break. That is what's disturbingly scary.
I know you're probably just making a joke and it's a funny point to be fair.
But there's also a big difference in playing something on average maybe once a month or even every week compared to every single day. Just saying ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The tv show does Roose Bolton and Doran Martell really dirty. They are both fascinating characters.
Don't get me started on Euron Greyjoy 😤
Stannis ;(
@@kieran6417 Probably one of the coolest characters in the series, turned into an over the top pirate/wannabe Jack Sparrow.
I like to imagine that Sips' chin is a little smiley mouth.
Omg
Cant unsee
I hate u for this
thanks cant unsee it now :(
Goddammit why
"couple hundred hours and ive done everything i want in a game" -Sips
Well then I - *looks nervously at having multiple games at 2k+ hours each" I may enjoy some games to much
When talking about the game of thrones books, they said plots just haven't gone anywhere but the series isn't finished yet. Plotlines move between books so it's cool to have stuff to look forward to.
I already loved Jarred Harris when he played David Robert Jones in Fringe and was surprised to suddenly see him as the main protagonist instead of major antagonist. Next to David Hewlett he is definitely my favorite actor.
Yes, the internet can be a cesspool of hate and mistrust. but then you can stumble on little gems like "The Fuel Rats" in the game Elite Dangerous. Look 'em up!
They helped me out of a major jam once! Top lads!
Immediately bought the audiobook lol. I also bought the hard copy as soon as it was available. Super enjoyable, great job Pyrion!
I love Sips little fallout reference during the lockpicking discussion
"Did you watch it on Disney+?"
"Eeerh... yeah...."
A man after my own heart.
Gamification of real life to increase productivity is absolutely a thing! I don't use Habitica much anymore, but it's definitely a tool that has helped me. If I understand correctly, part of the issue with ADHD is that our brains don't get all of the rewards that others do, and gamification can actually help us find ways to "care" about the same things we do, in a sense. But even without ADHD, even just having different types of rewards and tangible achievements can absolutely help with motivation.
Regarding the Terror and the Franklin Expedition . At the time they thought they were extremely prepared for the time with all the modern technology and provisions and it was until like two years stuck within the Ice they realised the errors. I recommend History Buffs: The Terror. It’s a good watch regarding the brilliant TV Show
Btw Jon Ronson books are actually incredible. 'So You've Been Publically Shamed' is an absolute classic!
if theres 3 people in NZ that means 1/3 of NZ watches Tri Force
id say its 100% new zealand watch rate actually
2/3 then
3/3 then
If theres one good thing from the pandemic, the triforce is so regular now it's INSANE. Its too much, ee will end up getting a 4 month break to balance things out 😂
The other good thing is that I can just stay at home and be socially correct at the same time
At 21 minutes, Sips is describing The Shinning.
At 30:00 pyrions about to say “This” but then an ad interrupts and a lady is like “This is the new *insert smart phone name here* number 2 with 1000x more pixels then the last. What a perfect placement
cool story
"And you get like 5 extra inventory space." Me playing Satisfactory while watching this.. What just happened?
If you like explorers you will like Knud Rasmussens life story, he was the guy who founded the Thule trading base in north west Greenland.
Lewis' description of the cat documentary was great and very forgiving lol. A bunch of busy bodies bother the police and then they arrest a murder that was a extremely stupid.
uhhh what?
@@Normandy-e8i Lewis painted them a very positive light. Reality (the doc itself) showed a much different picture. The killer was caught because he left his license in the trash covered in blood. He almost posed on a security camera wearing the victims clothes after he cleaned up. Quite literally he was an idiot. The cat people did literally nothing except cyber stalk a psycho. The police could have cared less about the cats and they actively avoided contact whenever possible with cyber sleuths for months at a time.
3 people live in NZ and one of them is listening.
I've seen two comments like this now...
2/3 of New Zealand watch the Triforce podcast! What a metric!
Listening to them talk about video games, it's no wonder they're so bad at them.
Which is completely fine, they're casuals, which is 100% fine. Though I wish they'd sympathize with the satisfaction of gitting gud.
I've been playing Quake for around 3 years now, I started off REALLY bad, like literally SO bad.
But now? 40% lightning gun, 65% railgun, I hit direct rockets like it was hitscan. I double back, I'm patient, I don't peek when I don't need to, etc.
All these super good video games habits you can get if you just try a little bit, and it feels so, so amazing. When I improve, I feel great.
Though to be fair, I play mainly 1v1 because that's a format that works well in Quake, I don't recommend team-based games simply because randoms are RNG and the general toxicity that comes with randoms. I don't see a reason to play with teams if you're gonna turn off chat anyway.
With 1v1, you know why you lost, and you know what you can improve on. Though if you like randomness, don't listen to me, I'm obviously a tryhard lol
Here's a fact, HMS terror and HMS erebus were equipped with steam engines, on the outside they seemed great, instead of being engines meant for naval vessels the royal navy cheaped out and got them train engines they only went 1 nautical knot they also only had a few gallons of fuel
Michael Palin wrote about the Erebus
One thing that should have given away that the expedition was going to fail was erebus was the darkest part of tartarus, the greek hell
I strive to be the degenerate that sips described at 24 minutes in.
Well you certainly got the looking great part down chapi!

Lewis: "Washing up liquid"
You mean ... soap?
Soap is very general and vague. Washing up liquid narrows it down quite a bit.
Man, listening to Pyrion's experience 'people watching' is so nice. It's something I do as well but never talked to anyone about.
Oh man I remember hearing about that AIDs tweet lady. She got absolutely fucking lit up.
Toxic levels of vitamin A

How did Lewis predit the movie SOUL...
How is PFlax still the only sane one? Jesus.
The Game of Thrones book discussion broke my nerdy heart
Lady "Frostwhisper"?! Misremembered details about Jon Connington?! For *shame!*
At least they can all recognise how bad it was.
perfect to fall asleep too.
I think I've heard every episode 5 times because I listen to them when I make my tea at night and when I go to bed xD and when I go to Uni.
Not exactly a glowing endorsement
Hard disagree. I usually give them my full attention
@@HerohammerStudios I always do as well but after listening to a new ep I don't mind falling asleep to them talking
@Wise Guy xQc well it was 1am Australian time
There's a movie with Simon pegg called Paul where an alien transfers his knowledge to people, that kinda fits sips' description.
If you haven't watched Paul you haven't lived
Jared Harris is Richard Harris' son
Also he's Moriarty in Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes so definitely a bad guy as well!
They talked about bear livers again
Ridley Have they talked about this before? Haha
@@richtofen4888 yes, specifically about polar bear livers and how they're deadly to eat due to the amount of vitamin A. This time they were confused about what vitamin it was though lol.
Ridley My god, hahaha
Ridley It’s stuff like this that makes me love the triforce so much
Am I the only person who actively watches tv shows? Like does everyone else do something else when they watched GoT? Flax is like “there’s some ancient civilization that they sail to that they never go into detail about”. I never read the books but thats Valeria, where Calesi’s blood line is from. And having watched all of GoT with full attention I have to say the ending wasn’t some monstrosity, but maybe thats because from season 2 I thought Calesi was insane and has no right to rule, and maybe other people didnt see that until the very end and felt blind sided that this person who goes around razing cities with her army of slaves wasnt a good guy. Dont @ me
Not @tting u but its spelt khaleesi bro, cant have been too invested lol.
Basically nobody thought she had a right to rule.
It's the fact that she did a nosedive right off the deep end and slaughtered countless thousands of people for literally, absolutely, no reason. At all.
And it's not JUST that part. If you didn't understand why people greatly disliked the final season, I can safely say that you didn't watch the show with your full attention. Or you at least didn't care about it.
The problem with eating the livers is extremely high amounts of Vitamin A, but the problems with southern pole exploration wasn't from Bears, as they live in the North, but from their dogs. I can't remember the name of the people in the group but there was a story of a group of men who got lost and when they ran out of supplies resorted to eating their Huskies to survive and the livers being so high in Vitamin A killed them
tidying up in videogames doesn't take any physical effort

Vitamin A in a Husky liver
24:57 dude, there is exactly that. I stumbled across this app called LifeRPG (maybe different name, idk) but it's basically an RPG achievement/level-up system for all you're real life things.
I haven't used it personally, but it seems to have really good reviews
Yeah man... LifeRPG and LevelUpLife. I've not used them as they both want me to be motivated! 😐 Meh! I just about log on to GTA5 to spin the casino wheel. Cracking idea for an app though.

Pyrion talking about watching the arcade really reminded me of the Hitchcock movie Rear Window. I highly recommend it, especially if you like people watching.
jarred harris is richard harris's son :)
Lewis should watch history buff video on terror, it will answer all his questions on it
I like the fact, that Lewis talks about going out and watching people .... and just a sec later, he talks about doing the same, just online. :)
Somone animate the log book part lol
Hell yeah
I listened to bodega! I was not disappointed! Good work pflax
wow you fucked up that explanation about the books lol
Am i the only one who thinks they should do two a week?
They're kinda busy tho? Also they barely do anything in their lives lol so if they did two a week they would have nothing to talk about.
It wouldn't be nearly as interesting or entertaining.
Hush. We're lucky to get one a week
That Osborne Spy book was mint lmao
I tried to rewatch GoT and just couldn't, the books and the wiki at least are still enjoyable.
There are some good games for it too - there are mods that convert ck2, MK2 and mount and blade into westeros.
yeah it's difficult to rewatch for sure. it's almost there, and has some fantastic bits, but most of it isn't great
The is a lot of interesting stuff in the GoT universe. My problem with the books is that GRRM is a fucking garbage writer. There were so many interesting characters and ideas in the first book but after slogging through his shit language use for the entire thing I just gave up there. The tv show was a good way to get the good stuff without having to endure the writing in the books, but then we know how even that turned out in the end.

Brad Pitt in What's Eating Gilbert Grape might be his best role ;)
I can only think of the revenant when leo meets his new friend.

rip lil peep
I was wondering if anyone was going to mention this.
Outlier... Lewis watches Westworld!? (pretty sure Pflax made a reference to it last week)
why are you surprised?
@@Normandy-e8i I wouldn't be surprised... Not a confirmation though, the word and its meaning existed before westworld...

Did Lewis just imply there are bears at the southpole? Aren't they just at the northpole?

Is age of Ultron the most forgettable marvel movie
Thor the dark world. Iron man 2. Most of the adjoining films just tread water. Winter soldier was ok.
I remember more of it than I do of Civil War, honestly, but Iron Man 2 is definitely the most forgettable for me.
@@davidmurray3542 not even joking I forgot about iron man two and three
Is it normal to know actors names and stuff? Is it an older generation thing? I just watch something and it ends there. I never inquire into who the people are.
Wat
Well, knowing the names of the actors does contribute to more substantial conversations if you're talking about movies or shows.
I'm very bad with names, though, so I'll instead just refer to the actor's work... or use the name of the film they're most popular for in place of their actual name.
Like, La Bamba instead of Lou Diamond Phillips.
@@TheZaius But when I talk about that stuff I always say "the guy who played x" or something
@@Fireburnin21 Yeah, and I do that sometimes. But that kind of limited information will only take you so far.
"Hey, let's talk about that actor who played Harvey Dent."
"Which one?"
"The one in that 90s Batman movie."
"Again... which one?"
Here's another example:
"Hey, let's talk about that actor who plays Lando Calrissian."
"Which one?"
"The one in the new Star Wars movie."
"Oh... wait, which one?"
In both scenarios, I'm talking about Billy Dee Williams.
@@TheZaius But that's assuming that the conversation hasn't already established what exact movie you're talking about. Almost certainly every conversation about film is led on with the exact film in question. I don't think I've ever had a conversation with someone about actors first. That's why I assumed it was an age thing.
Look up, 'Out of Shadows' it's a documentary about Pizza gate.
Yeah pflax is an uninformed piece of shit
Is it supporting the conspiracy or examining why it got to that level?
@@GezbianGaming it starts out with CIA influence in Hollywood and journalism, then talks about pedophile elites which leads to pizza gate. You can draw your own conclusions based on the evidence provided.
