- Dark Waters, the 2019 film, tells the true story of lawyer Robert Bilott (Mark Ruffalo), who confronts the powerful chemical company DuPont to defend a community poisoned by its products.
Bilott, a corporate lawyer specializing in defending large companies, is visited by Wilbur Tennant, a farmer from Parkersburg, West Virginia. Tennant tells him that his cows are dying and his land is contaminated by what he believes is toxic waste from a nearby DuPont plant. At first, Bilott is reluctant to take on the case, since DuPont is a major client of his firm. However, as you investigate, you discover that the company has been dumping sulfonated perfluorooctane acid (PFOA) into the river for decades, contaminating the community's drinking water. Bilott faces a tough legal battle against DuPont, which has a team of lawyers and unlimited resources. Despite threats and opposition, Bilott does not give up and fights for justice for the victims.
