yeah but this is supposed to be fun, not trying to wipe my ass with leaves either... minecraft for example simply pops items into your inventory when you get close enough
I was stuck in the tutorial struggling with the pouch thing, when another guy comes along and asks me how to do it. We both stood there staring at the tutorial board for quite a while.
Lol I was the exact same way!! I'm like WTF is a dock?! And I went to the side of the building where I saw water and something like a wooden "dock". I felt so stupid and had a blonde moment. But then my friend was like: You grab the circle slots and it creates a pouch. Then I knew and felt like the lamest girl, actually going to the side of the building where there was water (wooden dock) for a freaking pouch 😂😂😂
for the furnace all you gotta do is throw in the ore and you don't even need to use the bellows (although it speeds it up a bit). The torches do not need to be lit and coal works much better as a fuel source. Good vid tho
Tip There’s a mining skill that lets you shake a pouch until it glows blue, and then when you throw it on the ground, it will automatically suck up all the same items in a large area.
Tip for anyone who needs it in the mines! Instead of torches, try to go to dust bowl and get a lantern. Fill it with logs/coal, rub 2 flints together next to it and done. It won’t stop for a long time. If you can’t do that, then bring a weapon into the mines. If you need your torch re lit then wait for a glowing bug thingy. Hold your torch next to it and hit it as it creates a spark. You’re welcome!
well uh lanterns have limitations it doesnt lighten up an area as much as it usually does compared to a lit torch or a flashlight depending on where it is shining. I like attaching lanterns to my backpack and when my torch goes out I would relight it with the lantern so that way the entire area doesnt go dark another strategy for this would be to just light the little pieces of dry grass found in the mines throw them into areas that are not lit yet (this will also help you find the way down alot easier) and when your torch goes out you immediately have something to relight it with i do this alot especially outside of crystal areas it makes life helluva lot easier
i think they are called fire bugs, i've never been to the mines bc i make potoins :> i also cut pumkins into 8ths and call it chese. . . . dont know why but i do it.
Something I found myself always doing was making a stick with flint and grass on top, you can make as many as you want as long as you have a stock of sticks, grass, and flint (the most common items in the game) What you get is 2 torches you can always light/relight by banging them together, that also function as pickaxes, axes, and weapons It feels like it isnt worth the effort to make better items when the time investment is so incredibly high for such a low (and durability limited) reward Especially when making more flintaxes costs virtually nothing
One thing I found out about the torch and getting stuck down in the mine with no resources, you can set your torch on the ground and use a flint and rock to re-light your torch without a fire.
This is why I always carry flint on my front slot/dock for emergency lighting lol. I made the mistake of going into the mine (tutorial) and not having light since my torch went out... I was literally stuck and thankfully some other stranger passed along with a torch and I got out. I learned my lesson and now I carry flint in the front so I can quickly and easily light up my torch... Which I also combined with flint to light up easier and not have to carry two flint/rocks to light it up. Example: Craft a torch but also add flint in the "hammer position" so then you carry that torch that's combined with the flint and quickly grab your flint from the front slot and you light up your torch. My friend copied me because it makes it much easier to light up (: Idk if I made sense lol but yup xD
@@kimberlynaa. lol it gets confusing in those mines even with light let alone in the dark. But yeah I’m definitely copying that idea to cause that’s just genius

Will have to sit on the edge of your seat though to be able to scoop items with a pouch! Hope they let us reposition the belt with an update, to perfect the seated play using this method! Also, you can use grass to light off of your torch to throw down a trail of breadcrumbs and illuminate wider areas for battling and exploring the mines! When using the hand icon for planted items hold the trigger and grab as usual, but for things that are planted, you will see a opaque hand separate from your hand that indicates that you need to yank it out with some force after you grasp it!

I like that the game doesn't really tell you much, it helps you interact with other , ask questions and do research. I love it. And if you think about it, I wouldn't be watching your video if it tells you what to do
I'm looking forward to the updates and seeing how the improvements increase the intuitiveness of the game. It is incredibly confusing to figure out and only after coming to search out tutorials and walkthroughs have things become far clearer. However despite the difficulty in just learning the mechanics of gameplay, I have found that to a good degree that challenge is part of the immersion. To a point. I like things being difficult and having to actually use our cognitive skills in ways that mirror IRL. It's just important that we have direction in some of the more complex processes that need to happen, or be able to comprehend what a recipe is actually trying to tell us. XD Other than that I absolutely love this game so far.
Just wanted to let you know that if you add a piece of flint to that torch and hit a stone on it 1-3 times you can light it. As for crafting, yes there is little to no hand holding. I did learn some stuff in the video, However I did just happen to learn a lot of things by myself. Blacksmiths were completely new to me but I did it easy peasy with the only help I got being that I saw where fuel went. Once you learn the basics, it’s nice to join a public server and learn the ropes from other people! It’s not as rewarding when you haven’t unlocked some places yet, but definitely helpful.
yeah, I usually sit to play, only standing when I need to, like getting something out of my pouch or fighting a monster, etc. I didn't do any adjustments to height or anything, I just pulled up a chair. It's a little awkward, but standing still for an hour like that is brutal on the back, hips, & feet. I can do it for a game where I'm moving (beat saber, pistol whip, etc) but not just standing still.
Quest ATT needs to grow its community in the same style as the pcvr one. I never encountered any of these problems because 5 minutes into the game someone was ready to show me the ropes 😅
Problem is the "quest community". It's not certain you will have a nice person willing to teach you. At certain point, you need more advanced tutorial options. An NPC to provide advice in town would be perfect. People who want to go in blind can still do so.
I figured it out by very sharply paying attention to the recipe page. It does show the sliding part on the other end of the table with the diamond end being notably by itself.
Me and my friend have just gotten this game. We love it. We’ve been doing the projects by upgrading the carpenter and all sorts of stuff. We both made our selves some double blades in the blacksmith. I’m so glad this game is multiplayer. I give it a 9/10!
Walk behind the chickens when attacking, idk if it works all the time but everytime it worked for me. When you're behind them they don't attack, but when you hit them from behind they try running away.
for me, i wish i knew that items drop on death depending on which server you're in, it REALLY annoyed me in my gameplay, but luckily i found a server that doesnt have drop items on death so i can now play without any worries
I think the tutorial need to explain that when you create your own avatar, you have on the left side a machine that once triggered, make a little figurine of the avatar you just created, and you can put it on the little shelf on the other side, so once you connect somewhere, you only have to take the wanted figurine off the stand and put it to your avatar (like when you apply a haircut or a dress) to apply the same look.
Also poeple are saying that discovering things are cool and stuff, I like that too and won't complain about it, I understand... even tho the language barriere I encounter, shyness, and lack of connected/unbusy poeple is rare.. anyways... BUT, having to discover where to find the PCVR version on the official website shouldn't be a DISCOVERY ! it's litterally on the very end of the webpage, written in a little "download A township tale" in LIGHT gray, on DARK gray ! I even thought the game was also 10$ on PC and thought I found a bypass by mistake, cracking the system and having full free access to the game😅
Tip; you can teleport and walk at the same time to gain speed. It will help with avoiding entity or projectiles of some sort (just don’t do it that much since it will cram your hand for a bit if repeated)
If you do enough archery you can get a skill that when you shake the pouch and throw it, it will collect all of the surrounding materials but it has to Mach the materials that are in the pouch
personally i realy like the fact you have to bend down to pick stuff up and other things along those lines I just think it adds to the overall emission
So many things wrong in this video, but one I don't think anyone has mentioned is woodcutting: Put an axe in each hand and flick your wrist back and forth like you're the drummer of a speed metal band. Make certain each hit is out of sync, so your axes don't collide. The wood will melt in seconds thanks to the insane number of hits, and flicking your wrist will give you excellent aim control. I cut through most sections in under 5 seconds. Also, I've leveled up twice in the few times I actually found trees to cut down. You should be able to do around 10 hits a second between both axes. Downside is that you will burn through flint axes SUPER QUICK! Get used to fixing your axes every 20 seconds.
Woah, this was very useful knowledge. I had only figured out putting the wood on the table part but not the actual chisling bit. Also the furnace recipes are different from the others and you have to bring those back to town instead of doing like the paper recipes and letting it go straight to town.
The lack of handholding is integral to the game's cooperative and social design. It means you have value as a blacksmith if you are the only one that knows their way around it. Teach others how to become a carpenter like a master and apprentice. Time and time again you will see games that were incredible social experiences be reduced to another mindless 'every player for themselves' experience. Keeping a lot of the mechanics hidden keeps it fresh and fuels a genuine cooperative experience. Likewise, having to bend down and pull grass out of the ground is intentional to boost immersion. Otherwise it's no different to playing with a gamepad. Tiring, sure, but it's supposed to be... you're doing physical labour...
the game is suppose to be realistic like learn on your own, in the game there is no school :/ you gotta learn everything on your own or friends can tell you
The standing up part can be easily cheated, sure is a pain in the whopping side, but as an Oculus Quest 2 Consumer ( aka I use it), i can say very well that there's a feature where you shrink your size and when you sit, you just use it and then use the assisted grip, it made my life easier when i found out And for those who see this comment, its holding down trigger, point til you see an eye ball, then grip, and for the elevating its one of the upper buttons and you hold it down and move your hand to the up and down, and adjust your size from there,
The pouch when you get enough mining exp you can shake the pouch for a glowing pouch then through the pouch on the ground and the pouch picks up all items on the ground
You don’t have to bend over to grab stuff anymore, on quest anyways, if you hold the top trigger on your controller you’ll see a hand icon on the item, hold the bottom trigger while holding the top one and the item will glide towards you
I apologise if this sounds harsh, but as someone who has supported and played ATT since it was made being one of the people that didn't have access to all the knowledge current players have, most of the stuff in the game is based off of real life stuff although simplified it is super easy to figure out and it kinda makes me mad when some if it is called bad game design because, just try stuff, that is the MOST fun thing about ATT and it is what has always been great about the game, but don't criticize the game over the well designed parts. I agree that the bag system could have been better described though I believe the function of running around isn't intended anyway it was a neat side effect of the idea of holding the bag and placing the wood into the bag, which is incredible! but I do agree some stuff needs maybe a little more light shone on it in the tutorial however some of the points in the video were a little bit too close to just complaining over things that took you too long to get. Thank you for making the video and bringing more light onto ATT it deserves more recognition.
I just got it yesterday it tells you literally nothing. It all seems like a huge mounting task and if you sit at a mid point then standing is only sometimes necessary. 4 feet off the ground is good spot to just lean down to pick up
I saw this game ages ago (i got my headset last December) and I thought, id love to play it solo and build stuff and create cool weapons to kill things. So I started trying to make the bridge to the wood island but, as I went to the second floor of the caves (for what I think is a lot of stones for early game) there was already enemies that nearly killed me so I thought I was playing the game wrong, after 2-3 videos and reading stuff online, found that the mines are very unbalanced and hard for newer players also that most of the stuff you need isn't at all explained in tutorial or the game when I started. I Started a new game, it said about recipes and I thought they were only unlockable in caves which makes no sense since you need to craft a small handle, and I'm still a little confused but I'm gonna try play again this time with a lot more info on how the game actually works. I will keep trying to play this game because I think its something special for vr.
I got the game 3 days ago and I personally think physically doing everything's is super fun, bending down swinging repeatedly. I'd never worked that much in a vr game and really gave me a good workout and is a good way to keep moving during covid. But trying to do wood chiseling took literaly a day and a half to figure out. I understood the concept of putting a recipe in the holder but not a single page.
Psst, now you can do the game in a seat position. It was great addition since you can get lost for hours playing it and when you're unable to stand for more than and hour at a time the ability to sit was a fine addition for that and all those who wanted to play VR as handicapped.
For the grip thing: You actually have to hold the trigger, aim the hand at the object you want to grab, and THEN hold the grip button... Unless this was how they fixed it, cause I started this year, and NOT two years ago...
Okay just to say this .......if you look around the places of interest you'll literally see a board with what to do when you want to use the said thing like if you look dead at the furnace look to the left of it and there's a board with a list of what to do 😁
I loved the video! I recently got the game, and I was kind of lost. Also, I do not know how to record the game on the aspect ratio you did. On quest 2, I can only cast in a square window. How did you managed to do it? I would love to hear an answer.
For some reason i cant cook drumsticks without burning them the little time you get between it being cooked and it being burnt and when to take it off the fire is near non existent cause it burns almost instantaneously and unless i you have ultra instinct reaction time its gonna burn i dont know if its because my quest lag or even the server itself but for some reason it doesn't work
When you cut down a tree if you don’t break the stump. The tree doesn’t re grow
That explains why the tutorial area for woodcutting seemed like there were no available trees to cut. Took a while to find something lol
@@VRGRID ya im starting to think that all of the ungrown trees in a server aren't a bunch of people being a holes but uneducated players

@@FernMsTiri There's an option for that. Hold the Y and B buttons down at the same time. Brings the inventory docks up where they are easier to reach.
Here’s a tip: put a flint on your torches so you can easily grab any rock and relight them
That's half the fun. Asking the community on how things work. 95% of them will be happy to guide you through it.
Things the game doesn't tell you:
Literally everything
Bro this vid really helped was at the chisel station for 2 hours with my friend just trying to actually chisel
This video is exactly what I needed! I've spent frustrating hours in the game and still don't even understand how to play it!
for me, i wish i knew that items drop on death depending on which server you're in, it REALLY annoyed me in my gameplay, but luckily i found a server that doesnt have drop items on death so i can now play without any worries
Fun fact, there’s a big black stone wall down a path near the mines, and if you blow it up with a fire work you can get the blacksmith early
Oh, wow. I made 3 models but I didn't know how to use them. So every time I was playing, I looked like the generic avatar. Thank you for that info!
Tip; you can teleport and walk at the same time to gain speed. It will help with avoiding entity or projectiles of some sort (just don’t do it that much since it will cram your hand for a bit if repeated)
Great video, IMO I love just discovering everything by myself.
Just so you know it actually does tell you how to use the force and grab items
If you do enough archery you can get a skill that when you shake the pouch and throw it, it will collect all of the surrounding materials but it has to Mach the materials that are in the pouch
The fact that you have to figure it out is part of the fun but they still should explain the crafting better
personally i realy like the fact you have to bend down to pick stuff up and other things along those lines I just think it adds to the overall emission
So many things wrong in this video, but one I don't think anyone has mentioned is woodcutting:
Put an axe in each hand and flick your wrist back and forth like you're the drummer of a speed metal band.
You can cut a drumstick into 2 small meat chunks that are eaten faster and restore less food. They are good beacuse it will let you save nore food.
What is the trick to cooking the chickens. Mine just burn up... what am I doing wrong.
This was so helpful I had no idea how to do pretty much anything but the carpenters shop so thank you
Woah, this was very useful knowledge. I had only figured out putting the wood on the table part but not the actual chisling bit. Also the furnace recipes are different from the others and you have to bring those back to town instead of doing like the paper recipes and letting it go straight to town.
As a gold/black smith in the making myself. This is a fun experience making tools and gear. 10/10
dude you don’t know how long i spent trying to figure out how to place the crafting recipes and get the carpenter machine to work
With the grab, you just have to hold the trigger, point your hand at an item on the ground, then press the grip trigger when the hand icon comes up
The lack of handholding is integral to the game's cooperative and social design.
The VR is a good cardio work out. The grass being hard to pull not only adds to the immersion, but also keeps you active.
I agree I just got the Oculus and did not have anyone to play it with and now I have a whole team from my first time playing this game
Yes! I've met and befriended more people in this game from bonding over the learning experience than in any other game!
I completely agree, I figured out most of these thing by myself but I had to watch a few ur videos
the game is suppose to be realistic like learn on your own, in the game there is no school :/ you gotta learn everything on your own or friends can tell you
With chopping down trees use 2 hands on the axe and it actually makes it more effective
The standing up part can be easily cheated, sure is a pain in the whopping side, but as an Oculus Quest 2 Consumer ( aka I use it), i can say very well that there's a feature where you shrink your size and when you sit, you just use it and then use the assisted grip, it made my life easier when i found out
And for those who see this comment, its holding down trigger, point til you see an eye ball, then grip,
and for the elevating its one of the upper buttons and you hold it down and move your hand to the up and down, and adjust your size from there,
I know this is 10 months later but this comment just helped out a lot thx
No problem just happy to help anyone I can
The pouch when you get enough mining exp you can shake the pouch for a glowing pouch then through the pouch on the ground and the pouch picks up all items on the ground
You don’t have to bend over to grab stuff anymore, on quest anyways, if you hold the top trigger on your controller you’ll see a hand icon on the item, hold the bottom trigger while holding the top one and the item will glide towards you
And point your hand towards the item
4 feet off the ground is good spot to just lean down to pick up
This seems to be a game about finding out how everything works. :D
You can play seated by turning on accessibility options at the main screen and they raise your screen up
Me and my freind had a fun time trying to find what trees to cut lol
I understood the concept of putting a recipe in the holder but not a single page.
the grab option does work for grass, you have to make a pulling motion after doing the ranged grab control
Great tutorial video, this is greatly helpful. This would be great if they add the sitting option
you can sit, it's just a little awkward & you have to stand to get stuff out of your pockets & do some tasks.
I turned on the accessibility option to allow standing/crouching through the menu. It's a little clunky, but works.
Just bought last night was so confused, thank you glad i watch this. this a great game but was so lost
Thanks!! I actually stopped and just play it once because confused on what to do. I might try it again later
Psst, now you can do the game in a seat position. It was great addition since you can get lost for hours playing it and when you're unable to stand for more than and hour at a time the ability to sit was a fine addition for that and all those who wanted to play VR as handicapped.
I like it, its quite immersive to have to learn everything on your own
That scooping trick just saved my arse lol
For the grip thing:
You actually have to hold the trigger, aim the hand at the object you want to grab, and THEN hold the grip button...
Unless this was how they fixed it, cause I started this year, and NOT two years ago...
The carpenter thing hold me for a while. Also when you remove the bark the recipe just... Ends. I was sure I missed something crucial.
The pouch shake and toss method also helps pick things up quickly of the same resource
Good tip if you don’t want to go deep but you want some iron break pails and you should get Threewood and two iron ingots
You don't have any dry grass to cook food with, the torches in the blacksmith can cook food too!
My friend introduced me to this game and I didn’t really care for it at first but now I love it
i think, how the game doesnt tell you alot. Makes it alot better, since its way cooler to find out and it feels more realistic.
You can sit down and there is a frappe to grab you put the palm of your hand toward the ground and once it locks onto something then you grab
You can make a net and be able to pick items up without crouching or using distanced grab
Your intro is pretty unique I like it
OMG THE STUPID LEVEL UP THINGGGGGGGGGGGGG I COULD NEVER FIGURE IT OUT THANK YOUUUUU
One of the most unique intros
i LOVE a township tale. favorite game of all time. i miss it so much. my headset is broken so i havent even been able to play it for like a year.
When I needed to go to the blacksmith near the mines there is a lot of coal that looks like a wall we blew that up and got to the blacksmith
Dude explained every tip in the TUTORIAL!!
So it’s a game that’s missing the entire quest pop up navigation type system. The tasks are there just not guided
Reminds me of morrowind ❤️
@@FoodStampPhone with no npcs
It’s a fun game. I enjoy survival/grind type claims.
You are definitely not the village idiot. I spent two days trying to build an axe to go chop trees. 😂😂😂 This is super helpful, thank you!
Okay just to say this .......if you look around the places of interest you'll literally see a board with what to do when you want to use the said thing like if you look dead at the furnace look to the left of it and there's a board with a list of what to do 😁
I think it makes the game more fun not knowing some things Bc they are fun to find with your friends
I loved the video! I recently got the game, and I was kind of lost. Also, I do not know how to record the game on the aspect ratio you did. On quest 2, I can only cast in a square window. How did you managed to do it? I would love to hear an answer.
How do you get the server setting button in your own server on the quest? I press y and it’s not in there
it is like minecraft, a survival game that doesn’t tell you what to do but is somewhat easy to learn
This game kinda reminds me of Minecraft in the early days. It didn’t explain anything but once you figured it out it was fun.
For some reason i cant cook drumsticks without burning them the little time you get between it being cooked and it being burnt and when to take it off the fire is near non existent cause it burns almost instantaneously and unless i you have ultra instinct reaction time its gonna burn i dont know if its because my quest lag or even the server itself but for some reason it doesn't work
I think the intended use of a township tales info is for other people in the community to tell you how to do things
