I could say it's something that took me a lot of time to learn how to do, but I would be lying. It's a new preset transition on Davinci Resolve, and I love it too! :D I'm glad you enjoyed, and Merry Christmas!
Good call! I just didn't have time to play Rogue Flight, but it's on my radar. I'm planning a recommendations video for 2025, it's definitely going to show up there.
Good to see Valfaris - Mecha Therion on a best of 2024 list, even it's a release of 2023. And Devil Blade Reboot should be in the honorable mentions - like Blue Revolver DA (according to the rules). I still enjoyed watching the video - as always. Happy holidays!
Yeah, you're correct. I checked all the other games, but I think I skipped this one. I rushed to get this video done before the end of 2024 (it's going to be a busy holiday for me) and missed this detail. Thanks for letting me know! I'm glad you enjoy the video! Happy holidays!
Usually the lifecycle is: Steam -> Consoles (digital release) -> Physical releases. I think there's a considerable chance of seeing some of those titles getting a physical release.
@@SolCresta3405 Depending on what you are looking for, it's still a great cinematic experience. But most of its design choices in terms of gameplay go completely against arcade-like design choices. Not just in terms of giving you hp or having an upgrade system. But also enemies firing at you as they move off-screen, having inertia in your movement (making dodging less of a thing), having overly long stages; i.e. stuff that is not that player friendly either. Having said that, I'll play it early next year too, since it looks cool. If you want a breakdown of the game, Electric Underground has a larger video on it.
Nice list; there were so many good releases this year that it's hard to disagree. Personally, I think Angel at Dusk should've made the list - overwhelming amount of content (which normally doesn't really matter for a shmup) and loads of thoughtful player- and user-friendly options.. Too good!
Yes, you're absolutely right! I just haven't had the chance to play Angel at Dusk yet, due to lack of time/money. It's on my wishlist, but I ended up prioritizing other games, but this "best of" was just the first one I made. I intend to include it in a recommendations video that's being prepared for 2025. Thank you very much for the comment and happy holidays!
Great list, I'm loving the format of this channel videos, oh btw did you play KILL KNIGHT? I know isn't a shmup, it's a twin stick shooter but I think it was one of the best "modern arcade" games released in 2024, maybe you could give it a try :)
I tend to be much more inclusive and tolerant when it comes to the shmup genre since I started writing about it (back in the blogging days of the 90s). I like to include twin stick shooters, run'and'guns, and games with shmup elements in the genre, because I believe that the target audience identifies with and consumes these games too, so yes, your recommendation makes perfect sense. I've had my eye on this game since it was released and I just didn't play it because I didn't have the time/money for it, but I intend to do it as soon as possible!
What is the name of the honorable mention after blue Revolver? I couldn't make out what you said. Great video, I just got some of them and really like them.
It's called: "I got Isekai'd into a Shmup". Quite a long name! I should have added links for the games, I'll do that today, but in the meantime, here it is: store.steampowered.com/app/2870000/I_Got_Isekaid_Into_a_Shmup/
I don't understand the hate for CYGNI: All Guns Blazing and Raiden Nova... I was actually really looking forward to those. I mean, I kinda understand Raiden Nova probably won't be everyone's cup of tea due to suddenly going all Asteroids or Vampire Survivors instead of the usual vertical scrolling gameplay, but what's so bad about CYGNI? Also, Contra: Operation Galuga didn't even get an honorable mention in this video?
the short answer is that cygni doesnt really play much like a shmup. dodging and positioning arent as much of a thing, instead you collect energy to power your shields and tank a lot of the damage. a lot of the depth people come to expect from shmups is eschewed in favor of managing a single meter. on top of that the game is designed to require the player to grind for ship upgrades, which takes a lot of time, especially considering that the stages are really long and repetitive. some people like it, and thats great. most people arent really trying to hate on the game, it just dropped the ball for most people and thats why most of the shmup community is down on it. especially when it looks so appealling, people wanna help other people save their money, or at least know what they're getting into.
Regarding Cygni, I understand that many people hated the game, which wasn't the case for me. I was simply disappointed that it didn't give me the impression that I was playing a shmup when I tried it. As I said in the video, I don't think the game is inherently bad, it's just that the experience of playing it is, at least for me, very different from playing a shmup, both visually and when trying to control the ship. I felt like I was playing something like a top-down version of Everspace or another game where you have to keep swapping resources from one side to the other as the needs of surviving on the battlefield change, instead of a shmup, where you play much more reactively, improvising and dodging bullets. Not to mention that I found Cygni to be very confusing both visually and in terms of controls. Again, it's not that the game is bad, it's just that the experience it provided me was very different from what I expected. Maybe it was a mistake of mine to have placed so much hope in it, expecting it to be something more like a shmup, but I understand why people like the game. It's just not for me.
About Galuga: I haven't had a chance to play it properly. The game is very expensive by Steam/digital distribution standards, and I'm waiting for the price to drop a bit. The little bit I did play in the demo was quite interesting, but I didn't think it was enough for me to form an opinion.
@@SolCresta3405 In my case at least, I don't "hate" it. I just don't feel compelled to play it anymore because I want to focus on something else. I can give it a go anytime in the future, and yes, there are worse games everywhere.
Awesome, Filippe, 2024 was a great year for shmups and this list shows it. Enjoy the holidays, you deserve it!
Thanks PeeVee! I think we have a great year ahead in regards of youtube activities! Happy holidays to you too!
Love the transition between each game recommendation. Found several games that I hadn’t heard of. Thanks and Merry Christmas.

Great list, but would have liked to see Rogue Flight, at least in the honorable mention category 😊
And Contra: Operation Galuga.
Good call! I just didn't have time to play Rogue Flight, but it's on my radar. I'm planning a recommendations video for 2025, it's definitely going to show up there.
Same for Galuga: I'll try to bag a copy on boxing day. Wish me luck. :D
@PIXELPILOTS-STG Okay.
@PIXELPILOTS-STG Sounds good Sir. Love your shmup channel.
Thanks, and happy Holidays 🎄

great list. hope to see some physical releases.

Solid list. I agree with the with honorable mentions and disappointments
I think the disappointments segment will be the one most people will agree with me. LoL
@PIXELPILOTS-STG Why, though? What's so bad about CYGNI?
@@SolCresta3405 this video explains the same viewpoint/opinion as me. I'm not objectively calling it a bad game.
@@Carina_d3a I still waited to play it for Christmas…

No remakes and the first one is a reboot? 😂
