      We will never know the answer to your question, but I fear that the reason may be as sad as the story of Peggy is. I am 73 years old. I am as lonely as Peggy and almost as isolated as Peggy. My family, neighbors and members of my church pretty much act as though I do not exist. Shunning is a very painful separation of a person from their community. This elderly person may not have reached out for help because he had learned no help would be there even if he asked. As I said, we will never know if this is why he neglected his horse, but understand there are many elderly that find themselves in such a position.
      As a society we are too busy to care for our elderly. It takes time that we so selfishly keep to ourselves until the day comes that we find ourselves in need of socialization. When will we ever learn.

      It's incredible how irresponsible and careless some horse owners can be. They literally treat their horses as old vehicles that can be stored in the garage, instead of the living, breathing, feeling creatures they are. I've heard of so many stories where people straight-up left their horses in abandoned locations to slowly starve to death thinking they'd somehow make it on their own. So glad this one had a happier ending.

    This precious horse deserved so much better, I appreciate that the owner was elderly but still what they did was absolutely horrendous, not being able to take care of her properly and then depriving her of company over all that time, i'm glad that Gidget had a bit of time of enjoyment in her life but wow not long enough. That is so heart-breaking! He should have relinquished her a long time ago not strung it out allowing her to suffer.

    What kind of monster leaves a horse in the basement of a barn to die? Seriously? I really hope these people face some sort of consequence. But I'm sure they won't.
    I don't care if it's an elderly person or not, they should have asked for help a long time before that.
    These people who gave her a GREAT last year are heroes!!

    • @sonofhibbs4425
      @sonofhibbs4425 2 месяца назад +1

      How do you know he didn’t ask for help, several times?
      Because that happens too.
      I remember when I got extremely sick and could hardly muster up the ability to take care of my livestock. I asked around and found a couple people who said they would help. I only needed one person. One was very enthusiastic about it, the other very begrudgingly irritated with my asking, giving me a hard time as if surprise hard times never befall anyone. Both said they would, but NEITHER ever did. Just left me cold. And this is so common.
      If you have a hard time with this situation with the horse then GET YOUR ASS WORKING TO FIND PEOPLE IN NEED AND VOLUNTEER. If the old man was such a fucking bastard as you paint him to be, he wouldn’t have bothered to try to care for her like he did and eventually he DID find some angels in human form to help him and his horse.
      I did eventually recover enough to fully care for my livestock, but it was a SHIT experience since I expected somehow to be able to find others who would help. In my youth I volunteered at animal shelters, nursing homes and cleaned homes for elderly people who needed help. I thought if I did that there would be others who could help me too. WHERE ARE THOSE PEOPLE TODAY? I hope people who make scathing assumptions about others in such situations like this elderly man will get their consequence, but I’m sure they won’t.

      Horses and donkeys are some of the most neglected animals on earth. People literally think they can shove them into a dark shed and leave them for years. Some people will abandon them on random properties without any food or water, and the poor horses just slowly and painfully starve to death. I really don't know why some people think these animals are like machines, just to be used and put away, or thrown out. Very sad
