It’s nice that you share your secrets and tips. Keep the videos coming. I haven’t tried Spanish Landing yet. I drive by everyday and never gave it a thought. Maybe this weekend.
Rodney I used your dropshot rig in Illinois and caught a massive WALLEYE 21"- I used a Berkeley minnow instead of a Kalin grub -- excellent freshwater application too!
Heading down to Mission bay next weekend. I am used to offshore fishing but want to try some onshore stuff. This is literally the best video I could find on inshore fishing bays!! Thank you very much ❤️🐟🎣
I’m in SD right now. Fished Liberty station behind my hotel (Courtyard by Marriot) for no luck. Gonna try that again in the morning. Gott get some grubs and weight some time tomorrow and try that drop shot.
totally right, I do have different reels, and I like the 30 lb braid on my size 300 outfits, but for my 150 low profile reels , like the one im using in the video , I use 20 lb
What’s the best time to hit the bay? I just fished dana landing here in sd and was getting a lot of bites but couldn’t land one. New to ocean/bay fishing.
Great question. I usually like fishing low to high tide transitions. And if it falls in the early morning , thats ideal fishing time for me. Good luck out there
@@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel Last week I got a 33" halibut using this technique on my kayak in La Jolla, I used a 6" gulp swimming mullet. Thanks for your videos I managed to catch many halibut from shore, so last week I just wanted to try it in LJ and got my pb halibut. Congrats on the new kayak and I hope one day will meet in LJ
Favorite fishing youtuber. Got me inspired to fish here in Az. But I'm heading to s.d. in early October. Anywhere I could fish without feeling pressure from locals?
nice! I do recommend Spanish Landing from shore. But if you do have the time, try renting a skiff from dana landing and hitting the bays. good and guaranteed action :D
@@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel thanks man. They help alot. I hooked a massive hali the other day with the good ol Rodney tech but my drag was too tight and I lost it :(
Yes, when I looked it up unless you are fishing on a a designated manmade pier like Shelter Island pier then you need a fishing license if 16 or older.
Do you need a license to fish here... I know California says Pier & Bay fishing is allowed without a license. I'm only doing catch and release. Just nervous and dont want to get fined.

Happy fishing everyone :)
Al Kalin is straight up, the man.. what a dude.. so many times we have talked, I am humbled every time I speak with that legendary lure maker
good question, but often times nope.

So good to see you back in San Diego waters!!!!
Nothing beats fishing at home :) I added you Andy to the list ! thanks

My pleasure Alaura! I hope you catch lots! Please let me know now you do !
Favorite San Diego angler! Thanks to you I’ve been killing it out in bay🤙
ShuffleSoSavage I appreciate that man 🙏🙏
Again with that drop -shot technique... I need this in my life.
My go to :)
We will be out there this weekend, near the lighthouse restaurant
Fish down there a lot. I use a swim bait with a jig head. I'll try this set next!
Nice Rodney, I don’t get to bay fishing or fishing at all... school sucks
Fishing and the bay will always be there. School won’t . So study hard :)
I’m in SD right now. Fished Liberty station behind my hotel (Courtyard by Marriot) for no luck. Gonna try that again in the morning. Gott get some grubs and weight some time tomorrow and try that drop shot.
How fun! Thanks for videoing!
heck yeah! thanks for watching !
Great video! Love that you teach technique and rigging.
thanks man. I will continue to try and teach while im fishing . I love the teaching aspect of fishing
You’re welcome and happy fishing. I’ve learned a lot from your videos. Now to actually catch fish lol
where about are you fishing ?
Off OB pier and Mission Bay. Going to start surf fishing soon
When you’re drop shotting like this, are you not getting stuck in grass/kelp? It feels like every cast, I’m getting caught something
Nice video! thanks! my son and I love your videos!
Thanks Dr!
Love the video and fishing tips..I was in Diego for about 3 weeks miss the weather, fishing and ocean good times...
thanks SM. San Diego is a beautiful place. Thanks for stoping by
Are spotties good eating? What's the keeper length?
They taste like dirt and have the texture of rubber.
awesome video. haven't used much of the dropshot but really handy to use different methods in certain situations.
Thanks bro. my second fav is underspins
What pound test is the braid and the leader?
excellent question , 20 lb braid, with 12 lb mono
Personally I like 30lb braid for my bay setup. 20lb buries itself if I hook a Halli or anything big, the ease of use is worth going up to 30lb for me.
totally right, I do have different reels, and I like the 30 lb braid on my size 300 outfits, but for my 150 low profile reels , like the one im using in the video , I use 20 lb
Like it when you fish from the riprap like that.
ahhh thanks man :)
what is a good inshore walk? need to get more cardio, might as well fish while doing it.... any recommended areas?
Nice technique!! Puts fish on the bank!
thank you! the drop shot technique really is efficient
Ayyy! On the grub!
thanks fishing fam! I really need to give that reel to ya. its been sitting on my shelf with your name on it lmao
You can send it or I can pick it up or we can meet up and fish
Rodney's Fishing Adventure still!
what hooks do you use for the grub ?
Great video - I subbed! Going to be fishing the shores around San Diego this weekend and needed some ideas!!
Nice video, I fish LMB primarily and drop shot is definitely in the arsenal, never considered it off the break wall in slat water. Nice!
I want to try the drop shot in mission bay. What’s the best location this time of year (April)?
Cute baby. Thanks for the tips on fishing the bay.
Have a great life.
So many good videos. I enjoy your content. I will pick the catch and cook fishing for halibut video.
LBCFun thanks mate :)
What LB test are you using?
great question . 20 lb braid with 2 ft of mono leader line with 12 pound test
Awesome vid bro kool that you always share info on techniques keep it up g
Omar Salas thanks man , I feel a halibut bite soon !
What license is needed to fish there?

Are there parking fees at Spanish Landing or Liberty Station?
Good question, there are parking fees for spanish landing, but not for liberty station. have fun out there
Where's that kayak at
Will be testing it out this weekend. This fishing session was a quick one and I wanted to share it with you guys
@@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel I'm gonna getting a topwater next month. Super stoked!!

@@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel I plan on getting an Old topwater. The paddle version.

@@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel i usually fish the aqueducts but like salt stuff now. Gotta go try it out next time. Thank you.👊
Let’s go fish
Rodney, what weight do you suggest for the dropshot?
really good question. I personally like 1.5 oz weights. You can certainly go lighter or heavier. really about preference
@@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel thank you. I will give it a try when im in san diego
Rod is in your name... Coincidence? I think not 😎💪🏼
:D thanks!
How do you avoid getting caught on the bottom
What size huk are you using
size 1 straight worm hook
Thank you
Where this spot at

Awesome as always brother! Do you have the hook face up and the tail face down or?
great question , I always have the hook facing up so it's less likely to get hung up on the eel grass or rocks
Awesome , thats what I thought too. What about the tail of the linker grub, up or down?
Awsome
Rodney im planning on going to lake miramar and where do u by the permits
theres a permit machine right next to the concession stand
what line atre you using
i usually use 10 lb izo monofilament line. 20 lb braid line on the spool and a leader of mono for 8 ft
Man I missed you uploads
West2eastfishing thanks man . I will be dropping a few more by the end of this week :) and will be filming this weekend for the future content :D
Cool vid bro!
Fish King thanks yo !
Baby said “Daddy smells like fish!”
What time do you usually fish Halibut from shore?
I like early morning high tide conditions
Where are these spots? New to the area and haven’t had any luck here yet! Tired of gettin skunked! Love the videos though bro!
thanks Aric! this was in Spanish landing in san diego bay. good spot :)
Good afternoon!😊
Amazing this place, has beautiful fish Congratulations!
Hug and good fishing!
hugs a kisses
Love the video rodney keep em coming!!!! Quick question how often do u service your baitcasters after saltwater use?
for this reel, it took me 5 years to service it. I am pretty good with maintaining the reel, applying oil, rinsing it, cleaning etc.
Hey bro I’m on my way to SD rn to fish. Can you lmk where this spot is??? It would be super clutch if you can lmk asap😂😅
Spanish landing :) Good luck !

Spanish landing in san diego bay
Great video and tips as usual 👍🎣
Thanks man for the support, will be dropping more videos :) stay tuned !
I like to use a new penny shrimp on my drop shot in the bays. Lots of guys hate on it (drop shot) but can’t argue results.
that new penny is really good. I personally am liking the atomic chicken color
Rodney's Fishing Adventure I’ll give it a try!
Can you legally eat them? :0
Yes, 14" is minimum size.
Beautiful baby brah!!
THANK YOUUUU . my pride and joy
Where's my milk 😂
“Set the hook and point your rod 45 degree angle to the sky” (Sets hook) Rod horizontal nowhere near the sky 💀
Royal Fishing hahah you caught me . Let’s just say... it’s only a suggestion then hehe
I've heard that it's better to set your hook by pulling sideways. Less chance losing the fish, better chance of hooking the corner of the mouth.
That's what she said 👍🏽🤣🤣🤣🤣
Not tryna criticize Rodney but can you do different vids. U keep making the same vids.
