    Rodney I used your dropshot rig in Illinois and caught a massive WALLEYE 21"- I used a Berkeley minnow instead of a Kalin grub -- excellent freshwater application too!

    Heading down to Mission bay next weekend. I am used to offshore fishing but want to try some onshore stuff. This is literally the best video I could find on inshore fishing bays!! Thank you very much ❤️🐟🎣

    I’m in SD right now. Fished Liberty station behind my hotel (Courtyard by Marriot) for no luck. Gonna try that again in the morning. Gott get some grubs and weight some time tomorrow and try that drop shot.

      excellent question , 20 lb braid, with 12 lb mono

      Personally I like 30lb braid for my bay setup. 20lb buries itself if I hook a Halli or anything big, the ease of use is worth going up to 30lb for me.

      totally right, I do have different reels, and I like the 30 lb braid on my size 300 outfits, but for my 150 low profile reels , like the one im using in the video , I use 20 lb

    What’s the best time to hit the bay? I just fished dana landing here in sd and was getting a lot of bites but couldn’t land one. New to ocean/bay fishing.

      Great question. I usually like fishing low to high tide transitions. And if it falls in the early morning , thats ideal fishing time for me. Good luck out there

      @@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel Last week I got a 33" halibut using this technique on my kayak in La Jolla, I used a 6" gulp swimming mullet. Thanks for your videos I managed to catch many halibut from shore, so last week I just wanted to try it in LJ and got my pb halibut. Congrats on the new kayak and I hope one day will meet in LJ

      really good question. I personally like 1.5 oz weights. You can certainly go lighter or heavier. really about preference

      nice! I do recommend Spanish Landing from shore. But if you do have the time, try renting a skiff from dana landing and hitting the bays. good and guaranteed action :D

      i usually use 10 lb izo monofilament line. 20 lb braid line on the spool and a leader of mono for 8 ft

      for this reel, it took me 5 years to service it. I am pretty good with maintaining the reel, applying oil, rinsing it, cleaning etc.

      Yes, when I looked it up unless you are fishing on a a designated manmade pier like Shelter Island pier then you need a fishing license if 16 or older.

    Do you need a license to fish here... I know California says Pier & Bay fishing is allowed without a license. I'm only doing catch and release. Just nervous and dont want to get fined.

    I like to use a new penny shrimp on my drop shot in the bays. Lots of guys hate on it (drop shot) but can’t argue results.

      I've heard that it's better to set your hook by pulling sideways. Less chance losing the fish, better chance of hooking the corner of the mouth.
