I am so grateful that somebody takes care of these progressions and explains them in depth. From a composition side of view, it is fundamental and opening eyes, how chord substitution works. In functional theory these progressions are a must have knowledge base to get creative with some own stuff. Most teachers fail, to help their pupils to create their own music. The bearded guitarist takes care and helps out on this side.
Creativity has to start where this lesson ends. Why did Duke Ellington analyze his compositions so much, to create something really new?

I started learning guitar during pandemic, composing my own songs with typical chords from Math Rock I would find on the internet, and the more shapes I discovered, the more I felt like my style was slowly becoming bosa nova-ish, but I had no knowledge of this style.
So I was wondering what were typical chord progressions in this style, and I watched your video first, and after the first example I was like : hey, I play this progression all the time!
I was so pleased to discover new shapes and ways to play them after watching your video. I just recently started learning musical theory, and I still need to figure out why these chords sound like this, but just playing them around is so much fun. Thank you!

Ever since having been introduced to Latin producer Christian Dewalden back in the '90s, through other producers at the time, I remember he was in the middle of production for an album for one of Julio Iglesias boys records, and I remember being in the control room listening to some of the tracks at the time, and was smitten by what I was hearing in the afro-cuban rhythms he had going on and since then... II have been utterly infatuated by it.
Bossanova, and merengue… are two of my favorite styles in Latin-inspired time signatures, because of the way you can play off certain chord progressions… but for me, I love weird chords that can be used in jazz but aren't typically associated with jazz-like Aminor9 or E/[over]F# - this is a neat little video that just served as a bit of a reminder about just how much I enjoy the bossanova.

Please and a big thank you, your videos are VERY helpful:)
