So what you're getting at is this John fella is of the Down 2 Mob persuasion and lifestyle. Also, "Closing is NOT management" might be the truest thing I've ever seen on any travel oriented channel.
Any chance you are looking for a camper shell for that 7.3. I’m trying to sell mine as I just bought a Four Wheel Camper. It’s a Snug Top Outback. Short bed with roof rack, awnings, lights etc. turn key.
2:13 That light blue rig in the back!! That rig is an absolute beastttt! I think its like a 1960 F500 dump truck built out to a camper. I met that couple in Bend Oregon!!! They were getting gas and when I saw that monstrosity I was so excited I jumped out of my truck, ran over to them and hopped inside. ha! you gotta do an episode on them! Such a nice couple and the inside of that rig is like a absolute palace.
I saw this rig this summer in Oregon parking lot. Wonder if he got caught in the hail storm too. $2k in damages to my rig! Still, a fantastic trip & glad I went for ~6 months
Loved this video, maybe a little partial to this rig though. Can't understand the negative stuff though, what's up guys? These guys are living the life they choose, and are killing it, would think that anyone on here could appreciate this. Peace.
I have a '97 Heavy Duty with flatbed. Been thinking about something similar for years. This is way beyond any ideas I had! I shoukd get started. Thanks.
That’s awesome dude, I really like the boxes on it, sounds like he had a bad time with whoever built them though lol, I’m trying to figure out the box situation for my new flatbed right now

Sweet set up! I am having my flatbed and boxes built by the same place. I had heard of some issues as he mentioned but mostly in customer service and not so much the build. Have talked to a couple who are extremely happy with the build quality but did have some issues with customer service and communication. Is that kinda what Jon experienced? I took the gamble and very excited and hopeful for a great set up once complete!
@@jonburtt8768 I have a similar pick with a Grandby in a Short bed leafs still in the front on 35 with 3.73 stock F250 2002 7.3 on a 4 inch lift. Looks like you trimmed the metal on your fenders, that coil over conversion is too much dough for me, mine in on a pro comp 4 inch lift. Tire rub a tiny bit at full articulations at hard left turn not right for some reason. Running a Trutracs front and rear their awesome.
How much does he have in this complete setup or what would the "fair market value" be if he were to sell this as a "complete" overland rig ready (minus just his clothes) to hit the road? 30,40,50 or even 100 or even more Grand?
I don't know what he has in it, but I would think it could be built for 30k on the cheap end if owner did alot of the work. I'm in the fabrication business, cost to build for a customer is probably 50 to 60, depends on used truck, used camper etc. Easy to spend 150+ with everything new.
Ok how do you finance this lifestyle? Someone should come up with a workable template for the average person. Everyone says "just do it. Roll with the rig you have." But let's be realistic you need money
Im disappointed actually. I was expecting most of those storage boxes to be stuffed with weapons and guns human kind has never seen before. And where is the roof gun turret/ You know, the same kind of cannons isis mounts on the back of Tacomas?
Because it would be a 25 minute video if it was one and people are less likely to watch that long, and get to the good stuff. Also less watch time means RUclips’s algorithm won’t promote it as much and you might not have seen it. Less people see it and less people get inspired to build something cool. And ya, less money for me in ad revenue. This is a full time job that I put every penny back into so if you don’t support it, please find something better to do with your time. It is all you have.
@@Down2Mob you replied . I thought you never going to reply . Thats why i say that. I am just waiting to watch mars expedition vehicle videos . And i just love to watch inside outside in 1 video . Thats the reason
Thanks all for the great comments. I'm OCD as fuck and I don't think there's ever a moment I'm not thinking about how to better the rig for my needs. A few asked about gearing and suspension. Im running 4.88 gears from nitro with an auburn limited slip. Suspension is a 2.25" old man emu mix up with custom alcan leaf springs. Low and tucked on 40s. Only way to do it.
Super nice setup! I think it just convinced me to convert my truck to a flat bed. Love all the storage boxes. Too bad he had a bad experience with the fab guy but unfortunately, not uncommon when doing custom stuff. I'll build boxes myself because of that as well as the cost savings. Seems like a cool dude as well. I noticed he ignored your occasional childish outbursts :). I imagine after being on the road with you for a while it gets tiring. You're probably a fun guy but might want to tone it down a couple notches in your videos. Other than that, your content most of the time is very good and you have great photo/video/editing skills. I just think the whole "overlanding" audience is probably a bit older crowd is all (I, myself am an old fart). I'm looking forward to seeing the other rigs too. Unlike some commenters here, I don't have a problem with these truck review videos. Maybe because I'm building one and love to get great ideas from others but I also think it is cool to see how others do things that might differ from my personal needs. Even doing them in two parts is no big deal. I stumbled across the tour video by the original owner of "Big Blue", the F650 before the current owner bought it. It is an amazing rig! Way cooler than an EarthRoamer at a fraction of the cost. Are you still planning to go with a custom box on your Glad at some point or sticking with the RRT?
Hands down, one of the best set ups I've ever seen. I love the organization this guy has. What an amazing rig, super jealous. I know your not looking into getting a different rig at this time, but if you ever do, this is the rig you should duplicate. Now he's down to mob.👍👍👍
Wow loving this one. Gives me so many ideas for when I'm finally ready to deck and build my dream superduty. My 05 f250 is a 8ft box 4 door with the 6.0L powerstroke. One of my ideas is to build my deck to double as a extendable in width to 100 inch sled deck for winter.
The Adventure Tool Company gear is some of the best in the world. I’ve been using it for years and it’s bomb proof. Also, their warranty is supposed to excellent but I haven’t had to use it yet.
Man! That truck is Epic! My camper is heavy and stock. Comfortable but its not great off road. Im thinking about getting something lighter and lower profile. That popup might be just the thing.
Love your site! Totally cool, and provides insight to all kinds of overland setup/applications. Could you make contact with John Burtt for a complete listing of the mods that he has made to his F250? There is so much that is stated in the video, but remains difficult to track down. For example, and perhaps the most important question of all -- the shop that made his aluminum flat bed? The aluminum boxes both topside and underneath the flatbed. The cool gear stored all over the truck. A bit of hassle for John, but I'm sure that a list would be a big help to the viewing audience. Thanks for the video - it opened my eyes to what is possible with a base F250.

Like mentioned axles were swapped. Payload is only really relative if the vehicle remained stock
