If you're not ready to give up on sporty handling, be sure to put this one at the top of your list.

Mazda is nailing their lineup, lately. All of their cars look amazing, and the CX-9, their flagship crossover, is definitely no exception!
I can't stop viewing videos about this car it's way more impressive than the MDX and most small suv out there it's amazing
That interior is so clean....
amays86
amays86 and high quality!!
Mazda needs much more respect and appreciation as a brand.. Its the only brand whose all cars are recommended by consumer reports !
Ankit Bhardwaj that's so true! they're so reliable!
Let the sheep keep buying up Honda/Acura, Toyota/Lexus, and Nissan/Infiniti. Honda is just so weak on design.
A B the only reason his is really nice and made out of leather is because he has the highest mode of that car. Of course they will show they best car because that’s advertising.
RYLIE ACUNA even the grand touring model is loaded with Napa leather and and all the safety features some even fine with heads up display
This guy is one of the most thorough and gifted car reviewers online. I'm assuming the reason why he doesn't have a lot more subs is because people don't know about him. Yet. Keep putting one quality content and people will subscribe.
Btw this Mazda is a winner.
hands down the best looking 7-seat SUV out there, really digging that rosewood trim
I always enjoy Sofyan's reviews. He talks to you like a friend giving his expert opinion on a car you wanted to know about. "Above 5500 RPM, the party is over." I loved that.
i just got this car 2 days ago i chose it over the honda pilot toyota highlander and yes even over lexus rx 350. i am extremly satisfied.
same here. Bought mine last year and still love it. Any issues with your car? I had my transmission replaced first week of ownership
Luki My really? That’s scary? Was it a lemon or is transmission failure common?
Luki My wow! That sucks big time. Very unreliable and inconvenient. Toyota and Lexus is the way to go.
Has it blown up yet?
@@lukimy2704 Do you still have the Mazda CX-9. Any other problems? Is it realiable ?
We just got our Cx-9 yesterday and we absolutely love it ! It's amazing engine/power wise and I don't even want to start talking about the interior. It's so classy and expensive looking! Now I just wish that my work was not that close so I could enjoy it more.
How did it hold up? How many years did you have it?
This car is perfect, but needs an 8 speed auto, and ventilated front seats to go along with that stunning interior... By far the best interior in its class. Great review!
What a stunning car this is, and that interior is nothing short of beautiful. Another impressive product from Mazda.
You've been cranking out videos rapidly lately, good job!
BenderIsGreat I'm a full-time RUclipsr now ;)

On the list of upgrades to make in 2017!
Seen these around town. Absolutely stunning in person!!!!
Mazda did an amazing job with that interior. Beautiful.
The CX-9 design is on point inside and out. I disagree on the headlights. They look great with the grill. This and the Mazda 6 look sexy as hell rolling down the highway.
Thanks for continuing to do your auto reviews. I just watch this video as I'm in the market for a pre-owned Mazda CX-9 and it's really helped in my decision making process.
One of the few where i watched from start to finish would definetely buy this car
We test drove the MDX, Palisades, Highlander and CX 9 and wound up buying the CX 9 based on the drive. We lose a little bit of cargo space but the CX 9 drove and handled the best out of that group. It's a very underrated car but should be appreciated more bc it offers alot for the money.
Design is damn sexy without shoving down your face. Doesn't feel like soccer mom car rather just an over grown hatchback. Efficient, too. Kudos Mazda. All we need is a turbo Speed 3.
No way this looks anything close to the previous model!! Crazzzzzy!! This looks 100000x better!!
Literally THE BEST mid-size SUV by a HUGE MARGIN... it's even better than some luxury models like Acura, or Infinity! I am shocked how luxurious it is, and how amazing it looks... I think exterior looks like an Aston Martin, interior looks like Audi AND it's the most fuel efficient car in the segment! Wow, amazing job Mazda... I hope they sell a TON of these!
The Grill Looks Luxurious
Damn! Mazda be producing better interiors than Acura, and it's not even a luxury brand.
Characteristics of a luxury SUV with half the price. Well done Mazda!
This is more impressive than the new MDX.
matt molloy ikr
ChimichangaXX hand stitched leather, real aluminum, legitimate hand finished wood grain, HUD, and an infotainment system that's better than what you find in luxury cars. You can even root the infotainment, and upgrade it whenever you want with updates from Mazda as well as 3rd party apps. I would buy this in a heartbeat if I had kids.
I'm amazed how a non luxury jeep has real wood while a luxury jeep like the MDX doesn't.
"Jeep"? Lol
NickLAUZ95 You know what I meant.
Mazda changed a lot and I like the way they design this cx9. keep update, good job man!
If you get in one of these at night, the interior lighting is amazing. It looks so crisp and elegant
I had one as a loaner.. The base sound system SUCKS. Get the Bose. The power and handling are shockingly great and I loved the size of it because it was easy to park and maneuver in tight parking lots. I wish it had cooled seats, CarPlay, 2.0v USB ports up front and a pano roof. Also, I kind of wish the USBs were towards the front instead of the back of the center console. USB 1 and USB 2 seemed backwards to me. If you're shopping for a family car, buy it. It's amazing.
Hunter Dugas yep! I'm surprised that Mazda doesn't offer a Panoramic sunroof even on this all new CX-9!
Hunter Dugas they did plan to put the panoramic sunroof in this car but it was effecting the overall driving dynamics cuz if the weight. it was additional 250 pounds heavier
Missing surround view camera too
Hunter Dugas One thing I thought I would never ever say is that the Bose system in the new CX-9 is amazing! I was blown away by the overall sound quality and loudness of the system. It sounds great even in 2nd row and in the way back. I for once don't really have any desire to upgrade the sound system.
Yes...awesome vehicle! That's why I bought the 2017 Sig trim...
the cx-9 may not be the best looking car on youtube but it is actually a very good looking car in real life.
Amazing looking car. Only complaints is that screen. They couldn't make it 2-5 inches bigger? Looks tiny in that car. Also no standard remote start.
Paulog1990 and AC seats
Paulog1990 keeping them uniform allows them to provide one of the best infotainment systems in every car for cheap. When you're in the CX-9, it actually feels like the perfect size. Plus it has the capacity for updates to the hardware, and it won't be a flawed and choppy headache in 1.5 years like most luxury cars.
My wife say the same thing. Too bad. You get the inches you get.
matt molloy Then Mazda should have made them uniformly 2-5 inches larger.
Paulog1990 I agree concerning the info screen.
Mazda should consider offering this engine as an option in the 2018 Mazda 6....watch sales soar!
They already have 👍
I wish this had a V6 as an option.
Anyone else just pretty much agree with all of his opinions in his videos?
Mazda's infotainment system is android based and can easily have android auto, apple car play. I really hope they add that. I have it in my Honda and love it. Google maps is the best.
I love it, I hope they put this motor in the Mazda 6 .
keri ellerbe I'm going to have buyers remorse so bad if they do. I have a 2015 6 and I love it but my only complaint with it is that it's a tad underpowered. Still, I would love to see this engine in the 6.
97I30T Eh, don't feel too bad. You have a fuel efficient car that's roomy and fun to drive, and it's not like the 6 has trouble merging or anything 💯
facts
matt molloy Yeah, true enough. Mines also a 6-speed manual so that makes it more fun.
I have an 07 Mazda 6 and its still fun to drive for being a Manuel as well
The small headlights (relative to the body) impart a sense of scale. It's all about the proportions. It's brilliant design!
Fucking love Mazdas
DimachkaS me too I can't wait to get one
Holly shit, I want to make babies just so I can buy this family car.
That interior belongs in a 90K Audi
Bruno Danese You don't need to make babies just to buy it. Buy it because you like it and it gives you pleasure driving and owning it.
club penguin and animal jam 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
But the XC90 makes Audi look like it was designed in 1987.
This was extremely helpful before buying one. Thanks for this and all your videos.
Thanks for the wonderful video my friend. I do follow most of your car reviews. I do have a request though, if you could show us cars interior and exterior at night it would be great, especially any luxurious cars or a top of the line as more and more car manufacturers include ambient lighting and what not:) thanks
So beautiful, almost hard to believe it's a Mazda.
Great Review Man. I am kind of surprised that this vehicle has some power. I was put off by a turbo four in such a large vehicle. However, it seems to work here. That interior is much nicer than the 14 Mazda6 I owned.
I just bought the CX5 gt and love it! This CX9 is fantastic inside and out. I do not like the touch screen the juts out of the dash board. I like the built in look like that of the CX5!
love your reviews. so thorough and a unique perspective. one suggestion, you probably don't have to explain in every video how push button start works.
protege2k That's a good suggestion. Perhaps we'll leave it out on cars where they all work the same and only talk about it if it works differently. Thanks :)
I wished it has black nappa leather with cooled seats with the signature model
This car is ahead of its time.
Coming from a 2013 CX-9 myself I found that when I drove the 2016 I found the new 2.5 to be not as strong as the Ford powered 3.7 Plus the 3.7 sounds amazing compared to the 2.5 T.
If I could have one wish for a car manufacturer, it would be that Mazda could get the fame and recognition it deserves. This car is nicer than the audis, BMWs, a lot of Mercedes and much more in this class. If it had 50 more hp it would be comparable performance wise too. It has the appearance, interior, drivability and much other things
Edit: they also need to put this engine in the cx5 because I would without a doubt consider buying that in a couple years haha
Heated steering wheel is standard in the GT trim. We own a GT Tech Package here in Canada, same color. All we can say is that we love this vehicle. Very good review!
RayfromCuba83 The trims are generally a bit different between Canada and the States. In Canada we get things such as heated seats and a heated steering wheel as standard more often
You are right. But I don't know the reason why but I think the heated steering wheel is available in the GT and GS trims but not in the top of the line Signature. I'm pretty sure is the same in Canada and the States.
RayfromCuba83
Canada is colder than the state. i noticed even Hyundai elantra have heated steering wheel for Canada
I just checked the brochure I got from the dealer with all the features per trim, and it says that the Canadian model has heated steering wheel standard in all trims (including the Signature), except for the base GS. So I was wrong in my comment above.
RayfromCuba83 I'm also going to have to swallow my comment about not having a heated steering wheel for Canada. Happy to see it does 😊
Good vid as usual. Thanks!
Could u possibly do a clip of the interior lighting at night or in a parkade in future reviews? It would be cool to see. Tx
Nice SUV. Curious which car or SUV do you own?
looks great in person
Love my CX-3; you do a great job describing the CX-9- keep it up!
I actually rented an Audi q5 while my Lexus was in shop. Got the call it was totaled and found this beautiful car for sale… now tbh I hated that it resembled the Audi so much bc the Audi seats were SOOOO stiff and uncomfortable but I’m hoping it’s better in this Mazda. Other than that, a lot of cosmetic similarities too, key fob as well, which is okay. I think I’ve just been traumatized by the Audi rental shoving me all over the road thinking I was out of my lane with our bad roads here in Louisiana… But nonetheless mazda is beautiful and I’m still excited.
Mazda did a great Job. I hope they make the 6 like this
chrisak49 the 2016 Mazda 6 IS like that.. much better. This top of the range CX9 doesn't even have rear seat warmers. the Mazda 6 has them. The 6 comes with a Diesel too, this one doesn't.
chrisak49 and it does not have paddle shifters. Mazda should not make the Mazda 6 like that. no way, the Mazda 6 IS amazing already.
I rent most of my cars from Enterprise and they just don't have many Mazdas. And that's a shame, because I'd LOVE to test out this car. It's looks like a great ride. Anyway, thanks for the great video.
nice review, buying a used one and am excited after this review...thanks
Hey, You ran the STOP 🛑. You have to admit though. This is a very nice looking vehicle and interior does look very luxurious.
Yes I've been waiting for this review
Mazda is giving Honda,Toyota and Nissan a run for their money.
and lexus too.
Uh, no!
Have a 2018 accord. Road noise is horrible.
only thing I miss from the old mazdas were the red/blue gauges 😔 they looked so cool at night
I'm proud to say here in Canada we get heated steering wheel and rear seats :D In the interview the engineers said that they did consider putting a panoramic sunroof but it was effecting the driving dynamics of the car cuz of its weight. It was 250pounds heavier.
This kid does some great reviews, and he has good taste, too. He owns a Miata.
I think I have found my first brand new car purchase.
the Wrangler can wait til i have more time I suppose
I think the small lights with that huge grill looks really good.
PCMasterRace yep me too.. It's look like a shark face
I'm surprised that the CX9 Signature doesn't have panoramic roof, cooled seats, heated steering wheel and factory remote start. It will definitely be a none purchase other competitors have this and a lower cost. Was disappointed was looking forward to owning one really like the look and hope in the future Mazda will have those options. Also hopefully direct injection is better than Ford's Ecoboost.
Everyone keeps talking about panoramic roof, cooled seats, heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, etc. Yes, other models do have those features but only in the highest trim in most cases. Such as Highlander - you have to get the Limited Platinum at thousands more than this CX-9 signature. Even with KIA, you have to pay $46K+ on an SXL to get all these top features on the Sorento. Aside from that, no other model drives as nice, has as nice of an interior, as nice design, etc. CX-9 is a great deal!
- JPL - At $52,000 in Canada I expect those options on the top of the line Signature. Yes it has heated steering wheel but that all. Mazda step up and add those options and listen to your customers
Anthony Macneil
I'm talking US dollars. Signature is $44K in US. Thousands less than the top trims of other models that have those features. As long as you want to spend thousands more, then yes, Mazda could offer them - except PANO roof which goes against Mazda's dynamic philosophy.
- JPL - That's my whole point at $52,000 Canadian plus freight and tax those options should be standard on Signature. The less expensive competition offers that on their top models. Oh well its like fighting a dead horse it is what it is maybe the 2018 will offer those options on Signature until then I won't buy. Just I became it's Mazda doesn't make it any better in my opinion. Maybe it's time they start listening to what the customer wants not what they think is better.
I cross-shopped the CX9 (Sig trim), Highlander (Ltd), Explorer (Platinum), Pilot (Touring) & RX350 (Exec pkg) and ended up buying the CX9 due to its best value for money. Sure it doesn't have pano roof and other features you mentioned but you can also find other features missing from other models that the CX9 have (Nappa leather, HUD, driving dynamics, etc). Besides, all the other top trim models cost thousands more than the CX9 and $12K more for the RX350 with similar features & spec! For the remote start, not all top spec models too have that as Std so I simply had a remote start installed (part of deal from dealer) that's better than factory installed as it had a 1km range! At end of the day it boils down to the vehicle that ticks most of the boxes!
headlight size is just perfect
I want a redesigned CX7 with this engine! Their concept (Mazda Koeru) looks great. Make it please, Mazda!
If I ever buy a 2016 CX-9, I'll make sure to get 91 octane fuel so I'll get 250HP. I hate losing 23HP. But then again, I'm used to put premium in my 2.0L EcoBoost. The Skyactiv Turbo and the EcoBoost are distant cousins ;)
nova9403 Eh, I wouldn't say distant cousins. More like related by marriage and haven't spoken since their respective blood relatives finalized the divorce paperwork 😂
Nice analogy lol! ;)
Finally, an engine that behaves like a diesel without requiring diesel (having trouble convincing the rest of my family to accept diesel due to the perceived environmental impact). Looks great in the CX-9 from what I can see through Sofyan's heavy right-foot inspired test drive, and would be even better in the Mazda 6 to replace the diesel engine that was ill-fated for North America IMHO.
The low end torque is definitely impressive and is what I would want in a vehicle of this class. Not interested in engines that have to be revved out in a car like this. The comment that it's not about the paper specs here, but rather, the perceived feel of the engine's torque is what counts.
gorgeous inside and out! how come no one is buying it??? I'd be lucky if I see one on the road in a day here in alberta.
Great review as usual, and thanks for not saying 'Solid Thunk' lmao.
I wish there was a Mazda 3 Hatch that offered everything this CX-9 has. Because as much as I love how this vehicle looks. I don't need one that big. Would love to see that sort of refinement in the Mazda 3 hatch's.
You can actually get the Signature trim in Jet Black Mica too. I did a review of the same trim level in and trust me, it still looks amazing regardless!
GrandPrixGTP02 that's right, we missed it on the Mazda builder until a couple days ago. Thanks for clearing that up!
with some easy mods you can actually put Android auto on the head unit. Official support will be released in a couple years when they upgrade their head unit for the next CX-5 and Mazda 3
Gorgeous. Have a 2011. Fantastic vehicle.
I think Mazda should offer something like "Mazda9"
They used to, although the naming was different. Remember the 929? When the 6 was the 626 and so on. Then there was the Millenia. Hopefully Mazda brings back a sedan for the premium segment but if they can't get Mazda6 sales up, that won't happen. If they put this new turbo in the 6 as an option, sales would finally climb.
- JPL - Yea but to be quite honest, apart from their sports cars(RXs, MXs) they used to be really shitty and nobody would even consider buying it. But now, they are incredible beautiful and very well executed IMO.
Not really because if it was called the Mazda 9, then it would be a sedan, but Mazda calls their crossover lineup CX.
The Moe ,because mazda was still with ford.. now they're 100% japan made. Except some mazda 3s that were made in mexico.
Great review! What would be your pick between CX9 Signature and Atlas SEL 4motion? Thanks!
Im in a 2016 mdx and this struck my attention. What u think of the 2 in comparison. My lease is up in a few months and im trying to save money but want 3 row something nice. Only thing missing here to me is the android and apple car play. Which is better on ⛽ and ground clearance?
Beautiful interior. Info screen should be bigger. I agree with the reviewer about the grill. It's shockingly large in relation to the headlights.
The whole SUV line-up from Mazda is hitting it out of the park right now. All high quality vehicles - difficult to separate them
What camera do you use to record these videos?
I like that infotainment because you can actually root mazda cars
Great review. I am looking at purchasing the 2016 Mazda CX-9 Signature or the 2017 Acura MDX Advanced. I like the ventilated seats, 2nd row captains chairs and around view camera options in the Acura MDX, but I like the prices of the Mazda much better lol. Will you be reviewing the 2017 Acura MDX anytime soon? Thanks...
We've requested a 2017 MDX, hopefully we'll get one later this year. Keep checking back on our social networks for all the latest press cars we are testing!
which competitors have a better 3rd row?
Oh my gawd you listen to Gareth Emery too! I love Trance!
Yes, it's going to have Apple car play and Android auto coming this year retro active for all Mazda models as they have just announced recently.
When is this engine coming to the mazda 6. The mazda 6 needs more powerful engine options.
you never said if this suv is better than the acadia denali like you had mentioned in the acadia review .
which one would you prefer when it comes to driving performance and all in all tech features ,power ?
which one do you think is more plush and upscale between the two ?
I am looking at a 2018 mazda cx-9 it seems like a nice vehicle
What will be different for the new 2017 model year? Should I wait for it or not?
OMG why would he be disappointed with the power. 227 HP to me in a vehicle like this is pretty good. Sofyan's gotta stop comparing cars like this to a sports car. The CX-9 doesn't need freaking 300 HP
The power rating only looks disappointing on paper. As we mentioned in the review, the engine works just fine out on the road.
Redline Reviews Sofyan sounds like an Asian name, are you like malay?
The competitors have close to 300hp or more.
He is pretty complex. He is comparing what "could be" based upon the changes they made. Adding a turbo, it is "expected" to achieve higher HP than it did, given the previous engine's non turbo HP. Overall I think he is fine with the number, he just thinks it could have been a bit higher with them having added a turbo, not that it needed to be higher to be more enjoyable. I am an efficiency man myself.
VanillaCracker tyga
Saying you've never used folding mirrors in your life, I can see how you would come to that conclusion. Trust me, it's like remote start. Once you have it, you'll never go back. You ever see people at the drive through bank teller have to open the door to get the tube? You don't want to be one of those! Banging your door into the chute drop is no bueno! I can put my 2015 F-150 2" from the ATM slot. I like that. Each to his own...
I bet Mazda is going to use that turbo skyactiv in the next speed3. I love my speed3 and we're all waiting for the next gen.
I wanted to trade-up from my CX-5 , and looked at one of these in Grand Touring trim. No pano roof. No vented seats. No heated rear seats. No heated steering wheel. No 360 camera. Cheep plastic covered sun visors. Wide center console cuts into legroom. Cargo space much smaller than the rest of the class. Apparently I'm not the only one with these gripes, because CX-9 sales have been a huge disappointment for Mazda. I ended up going with a '17 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T and could not be happier.
Hyundai sucks, I had the Sorento, same car. At 5k I traded it in, too many rattles and issues. Ride was like from hell, would shake ur teeth.
Hey when are you guys getting a hold of the new Elantra Sport? Would love to see a redline review of that.
Hopefully soon! We're trying to get on the list to be on the media drives.
2.5 turbo Mazda, 310 torque, 227 hp (87 octane)
2.3 turbo Ford EB, 350 torque, 350 hp (91 octane)
Different tunes of course, but the power differences is pretty huge.
The good news, get this, Mazda is putting the 2.5 turbo into the Mazda 6 for 2018!! ABOUT TIME!
Now offer the Cx-5 and Mazda 6 in the signature rosewood interior and id be sold on mazda completely. I bought a 6 a few months back and while everyone complains about the road noise, to me, its only really bad if im on the highway hitting 65+
I'm thinking about making some videos in the future, what kind of cameras and microphones were you using?
Great review. Best out there. One question: Are the outside mirrors power folding? Looking to replace my 2013 loaded Q5 with one of these.
No power folding mirrors. Not sure what circumstance you would ever need to fold your mirrors. I've never folded mirrors in my life. In this class, only the $47K version of the Sorento has them.
Drive through line at the bank. A simple push of a button and you don't have to worry about getting close enough to get the tube out of the chute! Drive through ATM even more so!
David Yarber, I just don't see the point. Folding in the mirrors buys you about 4" tops. More than half the width is still there when folded.
