Efficiency matters in that given two amplifiers that produce the same output, the more efficient amplifier will tax your vehicle's 12V supply less than the less efficient one. The less efficient one would also have more heat to dissipate, which could be the difference between being able to operate without a fan and requiring a fan to do so. More heat to dissipate could also mean higher temperatures and higher temperature variations for the electronic components in the amplifier, both of which in turn result in shorter lifespan and greater risk of failure. Big D's tests though only involve efficiency at the amplifier peak output, not at a more realistic output level, e.g. 12~20dB below peak. I don't think any of us car audio fanatics always drive our amps at peak level, unless the only thing we do is take part in SPL competitions. My car can do over 100MPH too, but I rarely drive it anywhere near that speed :-). Unfortunately the damned thing is also a gas hog at lower speeds too (18 mpg, really??), so it's going to be replaced as soon as I find a suitable replacement.
@@RobotUnderground Not necessarily. I'm still running the stock electrical system in my car, for example. I can only get the lights to blink when I turn it up REALLY loud :-). Alpine PDX-F6 on the main speakers, Alpine PDX-M12 on the subwoofers.

@@RobotUnderground With the high-efficiency amps that I'm using (the same high efficiency that allows them to run fanless and me to be able to install a 1.2kW RMS (2.5kW dynamic) sub amp under a front seat in my car), the voltage dips don't happen often enough for me to be bothered about them. There's the added plus that I can use them to power a custom PA system (not the car audio system) when my friends and I have one of our get-togethers. With the high-efficiency PA speakers and the high-efficiency amps, I can get several hours of run-time off the car's battery at a pretty decent volume before recharging is required.
Im One Of Those Half Ohm People. It Rises Up To 5-6 Ohms. But I've Never Tried Wiring Them Up In Series (dual 2 Ohm Subs) To 2 Ohms. I Always Thought It Was To Get The Most Out Of The Amp... But Why... You Should Be Getting The Most Out Of Your Subwoofers. I Wanna Wire Them Up Series And See. My Biggest Concern Is I Don't Have Enough Room For Electrical For A Bigger Amp. (2 320 Amp Alts, 8 Banks Of 500F Ultra Caps And 3 Low Amperage 50AH Lithium Batteries). But Just Get A Bigger Amp... It Will Still Draw What I Can Support At .5 Ohm On My Current Amp But Will Do It At Higher Impedance So Subs Will Be Most Efficient And Won't Need To Upgrade Electrical.
Very Odd Question On BL And Windings In Gap. This Probably A Stupid Question Becasue For Some Reason I Can't Wrap My Head Around This. Dual 2 Ohm Sub In Series On A Single Amp. Simple Math (4ohm amp makes 2000watts) Dual 2 Ohm Sub With 2 Amps (one on each coil) Simple Math (each amp is 1000 Watts @ 2ohm) I Know The Phasing / Power Matching Issues With 2 Amps On A Single Sub etc But Would The Dual Amp Set Up Pretty Much Be The Same As The Sub Wired In Parallel With Less BL Than The Single Amp In Series? Lol
The sub just performs it's best when the coils are in series. Leave that where it is. It also performs better the higher the impedance / more windings in the gap. (That's the complete statement to take away).. Now after that, when you look at what power an amp puts out is different. You can do all kinds of things depending on what parts and input voltages are available. It's actually better to run 400v alternator on 10ga @ 20A, (8kw) than a 12v alternator at 200A with double 0/0 ga wire, (2.4w). But there aren't any "car amps", that run at 400v in the market right now. I'll do a part 2 on the amp video as there were some points I forgot to cover.
I never understood the desire to load an amp down to it’s lowest possible stability. Back in the day when they overbuilt amps (putting 50% of rated load on transistors) you could buy/overclock yourself about double the watts out of an amp without problems. When amps were $1-$2 a watt that was a big deal. There’s no reason today to load down an amp when you can just buy a bigger amp for .15-.20 a watt. Efficiency as far as it pertains to class D isn’t really that important. Even older designs are 65% or better. Now with class A/B it’s very important if your running 750 watts or more. Your going to surpass most vehicles stock electric at that point. For example if your going to push an amplifier known for being inefficient i.e. a old Kicker ZR series. You’re going to need to make a serious investment in electrical. I was running around 1,500 watts of old Precision Power PC amps and a large battery and 275 amp alternator was plenty. I put a ZR 1000 in that is somewhere in the 1,300-1,500 watt range and it was no where near enough electrical. I think Big D Wiz adding efficiency numbers could be useful especially if he is testing an old school amp.

I really don't like brazilian amps because they are more unreliable compared to korean class D amps. But I had to do it myself too, they are just too cheap. Almost half the price and you can buy the same amount of wattage for 2ohms or even 4ohms. That means the amp must be more reliable as it doesn't have as much current going through.
At what cost? You should already have overkill on the electrical right???
@@RobotUnderground Not necessarily. I'm still running the stock electrical system in my car, for example. I can only get the lights to blink when I turn it up REALLY loud :-). Alpine PDX-F6 on the main speakers, Alpine PDX-M12 on the subwoofers.
@@Grommet2007 Right but the same work is being done and that means you'll need more electricity. You can simply add a 2nd battery to help unless you're using up even more than that can hold.
Simple Math (4ohm amp makes 2000watts)
Dual 2 Ohm Sub With 2 Amps (one on each coil) Simple Math (each amp is 1000 Watts @ 2ohm)
I Know The Phasing / Power Matching Issues With 2 Amps On A Single Sub etc But Would The Dual Amp Set Up Pretty Much Be The Same As The Sub Wired In Parallel With Less BL Than The Single Amp In Series?
I think you mean Banker wars
Bankers don't fight wars, they fund both sides.
I think Big D Wiz adding efficiency numbers could be useful especially if he is testing an old school amp.
h/o U.S Alternator works wonders on my g37 gotta have ur electrical system upgraded if u want ur stuff to last .. Bass on Brothas....
I'm sure it does, but how much did it cost??

I'm all for your views. You keep it entertaining. What I don't agree is your view of you survived sexual abuse view and get over it. Of course, it's your opinion but victims of it re-live it. It's a luxury for a victim to say I'm over it. It's also apparent that you've never been a victim--good for you. Victims can learn to deal with it but surely can't get over it. Trust me--I think you know what I mean. Sorry for the comment, still like your content and I'll still watch. I just had to say it.
Reliving it is a choice. If you never deal with it, it'll always haunt you. I'd always felt this in my gut but popular views seem to encourage people to drag things out and use them as leverage or justification for bad behavior. "You know I was molested!" , like that's supposed to mean something to the world. All it amounts to is self pity. Study the holocaust and you'll stop feeling sorry for yourself. I recommend of course "Schindler's List", as the opener. You can follow up with Robin Williams in, "Jakob the Liar".... And of course, the classic but overly produced, "Sophie's Choice". I also recommend reading, "Man's Search for Meaning", by Dr. Viktor Frankl. For extra credit, you can watch one of the versions of, the work of Anne Franke. Then when you're done with all that, relax, pour some spirits and enjoy, "Inglorious Bastards". Then figure out how the hell, "Kelly's Heroes", got made. They don't even act like the bars are heavy.

Patrick, can you give us your opinion on why the DC audio level 5 sub failed on (Parker the basshead) channel. The sub failed at rated rms, DC fanboys are saying it’s because of the box enclosure was off by .5 cubes.
Half a cube wouldn’t cause that. You’d have to take sun apart to know exactly why it failed but just like anything electronic sometimes shit is faulty or a dud ya know. That’s why with any brand that’s good there’s people who say they are garbage subs blew fast or whatever but in reality most of the time it’s people fault sometimes it’s not
Whether you like it not bro, look it up, it’s FACT. I’m NOT a DC fan, so I looked it up myself and it IS fact
@@kodyburrows4276 it looked like a thermal failure. Wouldn’t a bigger enclosure allow for better cooling?
@@eugene9941 in theory yes, however, if it turns to a “free air” application, then the sub goes in to the “rpm red”….hypothetically speaking. I agree on the appearance of a thermal failure but until or unless we can do one of our own, we be doing exactly wht we’re doing right now until we decide to switch to DC ourselves, or wait for someone like Patrick here to get into the guts himself. I feel like our boy Patrick here is the closest to ol whts his name from the “barevids” channel? Dude am amp GOD. I’m actually an installer at a shop here in Beaumont called Performance Car Audio…..and just from watching and learning about the internals of amps from tht channel, I’ve stepped my game up by DOUBLE and have been in the game for over 20. Thts wht I LOVE about this hobby/trade (I call it a trade) is tht there’s ALWAYS something to be learned. So anyways, Patrick, we need you to waist YOUR money or contact DC, tear down a DC and let us in on the ol mystery here. I personally fell like Parker made a tech error on accident. And I also could t tell if he was being a smart ass on his correction vid. Alright, I’m done jackin my jaws.
The driver failed because he doesn’t know what he is doing. He’s blown plenty of subs. He judges them on how cool they look. He doesn’t have much technical knowledge.
They are also the most efficient high power amps I know, which at high power is important!
I could sun my SD amp at 6000W with the same electrical it took to run my Fx3000D korean amp.
Yep, pay attention. Right to repair your own stuff. They're trying to take it away on everything.

I don't understand why you seem to have a problem with everyone. It's strange but you seem to have a attitude that you are always right and that you are the smartest person in the room. Efficiency should only matter to those with weak electrical. Wasted energy turns to heat. Out of many, I've wired one amp to half ohm, lasted about a month. $800 because i wanted that little bit of extra power. Totally not worth it. N I'm glad your alright with Big D. Seems like a cool cat.
You don't get the power for free? yet efficiency numbers don't mean anything? Does anything matter?
Maybe you're just making a point, but I'm not seeing it.
It's not important enough to choose one amplifier over another. Especially if you're going to pay more
this guy sounds like me !! nice rant
yeah people be egg heads with that equipment
Also your interpretation of idiot light is wrong. The reason it’s called an idiot light is because of manufacturers straying from actual gauges that indicated real information versus a dumbed down indicator of a problem.. You’re a smart guy but sometimes you interpret things instead of actually finding out about them.
Thank you for making a note. Either way, someone is dumb. I'd rather be the responsible one than blame the mfg.
