Great video. As I had mentioned in a more recent post, I’m a newbie. I do knit socks often with my knitting. I had always wondered if I knit socks from hand spun wool, are my socks super washed? I don’t think so, but if not, how do you wear them and wash and not shrink or felt? Thanks for this video series!!
Even super wash hand knit socks I always hand wash and lay flat to dry. If you are spinning for a sock you want to make a strong yarn that is less likely to felt. You should start with worsted prep fiber which is combed top( not roving or woolen prep). Top has all the fibers aligned which improves strength and decreases pilling. You should also use a worsted draw when spinning( short forward draw aka “the inch worm”), and 3-ply will give you the best sock yarn. also, different fibers wear differently. Usually a good sock blend has silk, nylon or mohair blended with it. Some breeds of sheep don’t felt and are perfect for sock spinning such as Shropshire .
