for people who want to know what stuff and how much u need for this in survival. u need 1194 cobblestone 64 trapdoors 8 buckets of water and a few minutes to build this. i did the math.

If no mobs are spawning, you need to be in range so that the chunks are loaded, but no less than 21 blocks away from the spawning area
Make sure you put hoppers on the bottom that leads to a chest so when they fall your drops are stored
You would need to also build it slightly higher for this.
@@navjotboii7440 No, not if you put slabs on top of the hoppers, in that case u could just replace the bottom blocks with the hoppers.
I would recommend slabs either way to stop baby zombies from escaping

It was great after hours of no sleep and sitting in one spot my island looked great. I just had to close that one block gap for the grinder. But as soon as I put out that last torch I feel in the middle and I died. The monsters multiplied and spilled out through that one small opening. It was a hard battle that couldn’t be won. They were everywhere. Creepers were exploding on the roof, skeletons were in my pens standing in water, zombies were having parties on my farms and spiders were mostly in my bathroom for some strange reason. So I had to delete my one block sky block island. Rip, your existence will never be forgotten.🥺

+Pickle Pete I just built it on my survival server, and it only drops around 1-3 mobs a minute
I tried building it up high (y=170, the ground is at y=68), I also lit up the area surrounding it and all the caves nearby
what am I doing wrong? I built it exactly as shown
+I am human. i noticed this issue on servers as well. The ones i tried it on had desreased mob spawning so that might be your issue, but I am not entirely sure.

hey, just for anyone who might have an iron farm or something similar near this farm, put slabs on top of the roof to prevent interference with other farms. The slabs prevent mob spawning as they are not a full block.
The content + ghost + music makes this a pleasantly surreal video
For those who are wondering what resource pack I'm using, I do not have a definite answer. I downloaded some packs and went into the files and deleted textures i didn't like. There is a bit of Faithful/EnderPack and a lot of them are from youtubers such as MrWoofless and PeteZahHutt. Just play around with some of the files in those packs and you should end up with something similar to this! :) Hope this helped and have a nice day!

i have one build in SP RLCraft and it is not spawning mobs at all. It is build identical to his in the video.
And it started spawning mobs about 10 minutes ago. So, It is working in RLCraft

im doing this in 1.11.2 and no mobs are spawning
There are several reasons for this:
-You're less than 24 blocks from the spawner
-Light level inside is higher than 7 (torches give 15)
-The block under them isn't Solid or an Upside down slab which gives flat ground.
-Above that block is obstructed or filled with Water
-The Biome is Ocean Monument, Mushroom island or The Void. (I tried making a skyblock with 'The Void' superflat... same spawn problem)
kookeekwisp They also change mob code. Like there was a time when mobs though signs were solid object but they patched it maybe they patched trap doors
@Loferix: It's not really that important, since they just push each other off anyways.
EDIT: No, they did not patch trapdoors.
This is not the best in the overworld as you have to light up every thing with in like a good 100 blocks including all the caves
Make sure you change your difficulty off peacefull not saying your stupid or forgetfull its just that I made this mistake
One problem: Creepers, a creeper almost ruined mine...
i think you can just place cats near the water so that when creepers spawn they wouldnt go near the water

Mine didn’t work :( I’m playing Java 1.13, do I need to light up the areas around? How far? Caves? No mobs are even spawning inside of it. I hope the server I’m on doesn’t have any weird plugins.
late but you have to light up caves and ground around 128 blocks of your farm i think

I’ve been playing Legacy edition on PlayStation 4 because it’s better than bedrock and I found this tutorial. I just made the farm and I’m scared it won’t work because I used 1 billion cobblestone for it.

For those saying they font spawn: Mobs spawn between 24 and 32 blocks away, and only in an available location with low enough light. In my case, it didnt work right away because I was too close, so I built the platforms wider, and to connect the streams had higher levels drop first into lower levels. They spawn now.
This will work underground, but I had to fill in all the caves within 32 blocks centered on me.
One positive side effect of this is that when I'm in my base above ground the top of the grinder is just within range of spawning, so the monsters spawn there and less on the surface even at night, and when I drop down into the bottom of the grinder they are ready.
So the player has to be 24-32 blocks away?
Does this work in ps4 and in the current edition

So I'm a fair minecraft noob, played in alpha but haven't played in years picked it up again a week or two ago. This tutorial didn't specify how high in the sky to build it; I built it on top of a mountain and it worked but was inneffective, as mobs were instead spawning in unlit caves, and it was a nightmare to attempt to light everything. Looked up mob spawning and anything that spawns 128blocks away despawns instantly, and they need to be 24 blocks away to start spawning, so finea flat area, build up 128 blocks, make an enchanting room, then make a 2-3 block staircase (so that the spawning areas base is 24 blocks from where you sit waiting at the enchantment table), then build the spawner. make sure that the flat area you start on is no more than level 101, otherwise you won't be able to build the top of the structure, as max build height is 256 blocks. Also light up the outside of the structure to stop mobs spawning around it rather than in your trap. I've found it helps to make the viewing gap only 1 block accessible so that the creepers can never see you, I had a breach early on but slightly modded the design and it's been fine since. Did this today and it's working a charm in 1.14.4 java, hope this helps anyone struggling :)
also another handy hint, this mob spawner will spawn spiders which won't fall down your hole, to stop this, you can place a slab in the centre of every 3x3 square in your spawn zone, as spiders need 3x3x2 to spawn. did this to mine and it has drastically increased the efficiency of the farm
I doesn't work! Wasted my time and basically all my cobblestone. I built in in the desert so the area would be flat and nothing has spawned!! I followed the instructions exactly

However if that doesn’t work then try increasing render distance and still if not try increasing height (yh I know I am extremely late)

does the size of the farm matter? I mean I have the 7blocks for water but does it have to be rly big? or will they still sapwn in smaller corners?

it does not work on realms
1:try lowering the entire build
2:some minecraft versions work better than others
3:it doesnt work in snowy biomes
4:you have to light up like every dark spot anywhere around
Try to build it as high up as possible or as far away from land so that mobs can't spawn outside the spawned.
Came for the mob farmer, stayed for the background music.
No mobs spawning after creating this.

Please make sure you’re on difficulty easy up to hard.
Also, make sure that hostile mobs can spawn in the world.

i'm using minecraft 1.12.2 and this build only worked on my creative testing world, i did the exact same thing in both worlds but it just dosent work in survival, can someone explain why?
Try lighting up 50x50 area around the grinder. This will prevent other mobs from spawning, so they will only spawn in the grinder wher its dark.
Build this with the very bottom of the build at y=200. This is far enough away from the caves so they don’t effect the drops.
I built mine outside my house nothing is spawning why do I do

It helps if you are in the air near build limit.

Dont Starve for some reason no mobs are coming down or spawning and I have met all spawning requirements
@@michellekelly155 You probably have turned off difficulty or you have torches in mob trap. Im playing on 1.14.2 and it works so i dont know where you have problem.

yeah, but nevermind i figured it out i just needed to increase my render distance in order for the mobs to spawn

Jacksepticeye built it on the newest version and it still works but mine dosen't.
It might be something to do with the biome but I'm not anything near an expert.

Hey, so... I built something similar to this, and mobs spawn, but they only drop items if I kill them. Why?
I built mine under ground. The mobs are set to hit water first so they dont die right away. Near bedrock I have a control room where I can watch the mobs fall, and if its a zombie villager I can move them into a safe room to be cured. From there I push them into a water elevator that takes them right up to the village breeder. That works beautifully.
If not, I pull a lever opening the 4 iron trap doors and they drop into a pool with magma blocks under water to kill them and a hopper to take items to a chest. The hopper works if I throw items down there, I have successfully tested that. However, no items even appear when mobs die there.
On Minecraft Nintenso Switch Edition.

did this on a skyfactory server. About 50,000 T-1000 Terminators spawned and it was not very cool but it was very efficient lmao

How do you grab the loot without creepers exploding when you get near it, when i kill them, thats fine but some of the creepers prime before they reach the bottom and then explode on impact. Its rather frustrating to deal with

i built this at night when i jumped down after needing more blocks i didnt see the 20 creepers i then ran to my home in game with more creeper waiting at my door when i go up to finish building it more creeepers
