Being in a same sex school doesn't necessarily lead to homosexualism just like being in a mixed sex school doesn't necessarily lead to heterosexualism either. Perhaps it was like that for Marine but those are the exceptions not the rule of thumb for the majority. Sexual preference is predetermined not something you can change at will.

even if it was predetermined, you might not realize your preferences until you're in the right situation or you feel like you have the go ahead. Shocker but what we're taught growing up has a huge influence on how comfortable we are expressing our sexuality.
