Well the original one didn’t have the budget and the 1990 version stays closer to the book/original source material. And they were going to do more CGI and make up but Tim Curry refused as he wanted to make it scary by himself and he did an amazing job at being scary at that time,
New ones aren't even scary the old one felt like he was fucking with their brains more to make them scared and he did some more sinister circus tricks that made it more scary
