DEX vs STR debate... Why or why not pick either?

Nice question, from rpg i play before dex is always for range, and str for mele
And when i try to change my equipment for the first time, i have so many miss atk with str, so i think it have requirement on dex to have 100% hit
So if i increase both of it, the good point i have more HP, but i will have low damage and so many miss atk
