I would subscribe to Netflix if they brought back AW! I think the only issue would be the videos of AW only date back to 1977 - before that, P&G used to reuse videotape on record new episodes over old. It would be great to start with the tail end of the Iris-Mac-Rachel era and into the Janice-Mac-Rachel era. The 1988-1993 era of AW was its second golden era. Imagine if Doug Watson was alive during this era.
RIP Charles Keating. I just found out about it today. :( He was such a good actor. I loved the Donna Swajeski era of Another World. It was so good and underrated. Just really good character-driven drama. The "Return of Carl" umbrella storyline was key in me ending up liking most of the characters on the show (at the time). I would actually watch the show in its entirety and not fast forward through any scenes, for the most part. That had not happened with any other daytime soap not even with my other top favorites, the Pam Long-era of GL and the Doug Marland-era of ATWT. I can re-watch the Pam Long-era of GL episodes in their entirety now, but not back when I originally watched them.
Carl was elegant with his hair short. As it grew, began looking scruffy, unkempt as a skid row bum, inspite of his designer wardrobe. His languid speech and relaxed demeanor were very sexy. Charles Keating was a perfect foil to Victoria Wyndham, two of the great dramatic actors of the last ten years of the 1990s.
Couldn't agree more another world and guiding light and as the world turns but especially AW was the show to watch that show healed me of personal stuff sadly just like AW which never bounced back from its ratings decline don't know why but I to never bounced back from my own personal stuff still trying but yeah I always felt some kind of connection to that soap that's why I like to watch classic episodes on RUclips
Jill Farren Phelps as EP did a lot of damage to AW. Killing off Frankie Frame (the same way she killed off Maureen Bauer on GL) hurt AW in a way it could never bounce back from. And that stupid Lumina storyline (AW trying to be like DOOL with a possession storyline) didn't help. Bringing back Ellen Wheeler (Marley), Sandy Ferguson (Amanda 1), Matt Crane (Matt 1), Anna Holbrook, Alice Barrett (Ann/Frankie), John Aprino (originally Lucas) was the show's attempt to save itself (and the Marley/Jake/Vicky storyline was great, was Anne actually Frankie wasn't resolved until days before the final episode - which makes me think they were working toward making Ann actually Frankie (not hard given all of the mental illness among the Frame women). Cindy was a great addition to the canvas. Bringing back then killing off Michael Hudson was bad (2nd to last EP), writing off John Hudson was bad (not sure which EP made that decision), the John/Sharlene/Felicia triangle was interesting, taking Charles Keating off contract and reducing Rachel to a background character, not bringing Jamie back was dumb, the messiness around Bobby/Shane/Lila, pairing Lila with Cass... They just didn't have enough time to undue the previous EP's storylines. If AW had through the end of 1999, they may have been able to survive over Sunset Beach (which was cancelled at the end of 1999). The other issue was NBC wanted to own AW (NBC owns 1/2 of DOOL), ABC owned all of their soaps, but P&G refused to sell AW to NBC (don't know if CBS wanted to own GL or ATWT - never heard anything about it). That was another reason why NBC killed off AW - they weren't making as much $$$ off it as they could have if they'd own AW.

Carl's casual reading of Jake is masterful! 🤩
AW was the best American Soap, too bad it got canned in 1999.

Two of the MOST bottom of the barrel characters on the show !!
But both Tom Eplin (Jake) and Charles Keating (Carl) portrayed their characters so well during this era!
DONNA, MARLEY, MAC'S LITTLE MISTAKE. WHATS HER NAME, PAULINA? CLASSIC CARL HUTCHINS! LOVE IT.
Carl was a horrible character
