    Art in flight. Fantastic. ( and you risked standing on the field with those screaming meemees You two!!!)

      @joshuawfinn  Год назад +1

      Yeah we're nuts. So worth it. I fly those screaming things from time to time, they're a lot of fun to fly. A very different experience to be sure.

      @@joshuawfinn Confession. I used to fly control line back in the day. Does the McCoy 35 "Red Head engine ring a bell? My generation drew the first howls of noise pollution. LOL

    • @joshuawfinn
      @joshuawfinn  Год назад

      @@curtis5445 no need for confession. Control line is still around and still fun. McCoy engines in all their various sizes remain revered for sport flying. My first big power model (Top Banana 800) started out running a McCoy .35 until I installed an ill fated Torpedo .35 on it that blew the crank at a Nationals. I had foolishly sold the McCoy. Oh well. We have a Civy Boy 61 with a McCoy lightning bolt .19 as well. It moves right out.

    Nice. I hate to say it but I feel that Hope is the better builder. Back in the late 50's a few friends and I used to fly 1/2 A FF models in a large cotton field. We used to fly Max_Off, winner take all. It was fun, everyone put a dollar in the pot and the best time won. We were flying Ramrod 250's, Stardusters, and the like with 15 second engine runs, ROG. Everything was fine until this one guy showed up with his Unlimited Wakefield that had prop runs longer than most of our flights. Well it put an end to our Max-Off fun. BTW, I am 86 now so chasing those planes is out of the question now, but man did I love free flight flying back when I was just a skinny kid that could run a mile to recover my plane.

      Dunno on building but she proved the better flier because she won yesterday. She's the 2023 Mulvihill champion!

    I'm a little surprised at the size circle you trim your big FF planes to fly in. I would think you'd want a tighter circle both for better thermal coring and also to have a more predictable path downwind. In any case, it really is a beautiful airplane. Thanks for sharing!

    • @joshuawfinn
      @joshuawfinn  Год назад +1

      Generally these are set up to wander a little in the glide and then tighten up when they find lift. That what this one tends to do, which makes it quite competitive.

    Thanks for sharing...they are a piece of art when in the air....what D/T system are you using....very nice...what size motor?

    • @joshuawfinn
      @joshuawfinn  Год назад

      It's running a BMK B1 radio dethermalizer and 1.7g servo. Rubber motor is 28 strands of 1/8, approximately 100g. A ton of rubber but the results speak for themselves.

    This might become another hobby for me, especially if the FAA keeps up with its insanity against the model airplane and drones. Are there any tracking devices available for this.

    • @joshuawfinn
      @joshuawfinn  Год назад +1

      I use a BMK tracking beacon, reports altitude, ground speed, and location. Really cool and light.

    Can't they find another place for RC models and not here at this Peaceful field 😕

    Where is this?

    • @joshuawfinn
      @joshuawfinn  Год назад

      This was filmed at two different fields. Mostly at Hodges Field in Americus, GA, and the last flight was at Whitesburg, which is a much more hazardous site, but Thermal Thumbers claim it for their home field.

    I hope you are getting a good RUclips income to pay for all that rubber.

    • @joshuawfinn
      @joshuawfinn  8 месяцев назад

      Not even slightly. That said, the big birds consume less rubber in a year than I sell in two months for business use.
