Actually, the backing vocals were pre-recorded and has nothing to do with David Foster as Stell was originally just a front act with 3 songs (All I Ask, Defying Gravity, and his debut song Room. He also sang this song in the 5 legs of the tour with Erik Santos in US/Canada. Hi. In case no one let you know yet, Stell was originally contracted to sing just 3 songs as the opening act for the David Foster & Friends concert. Stell was the one who chose the songs, which were All I Ask, Room, and Defying Gravity. You can find fan cams of all three online. 🙂
His talents are truly insane. I love listening to his voice...his tonality is superb for me.

If I’m not mistaken, whenever Stell covers a male or female artist’s song, it’s always in the original key. In this case, it’s the Bruno Mars’ version.
This song and 2 more, Defying Gravity and his debut solo, Room. These 3 songs are what he prepared for. These performances are what's really on the program and not All By Myself. All By Myself is a last minute change or addition by David Foster. Stell wasn't prepared for it. Just a one time brief ran down of the arrangement during Stell's rehearsal for these songs by David.
He also sang defying gravity & room in david foster hitman concert.
Truly a vocal monster! His rendition is so beautiful, angelic & mesmerizing!
