I have _Death Note_ in the six volume “Black Edition”. It was fantastic. I remember staying up until 4 AM finishing the last book, and to me it was a very satisfying ending. The battle of wits between two geniuses was really well done.
Yes, a very enjoyable read with lovely pulpy vibes
Have you seen code Geass yet? I feel like you’d really enjoy that if you like battle of wits 😉
@@lilmari530 No, Samaria, I have never heard of that series. I shall have to check out Code Geass.
That edition made me think of the joke in Inspector Gadget where the scientist shows him his instruction manual lol.
ha ha!
Yes first comment! Have only recently discovered your channel mate but really enjoying it. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
No I was 😅 the first . Just kidding.
LOL
Thank you! Really glad you're enjoying the channel!
I am so excited for this 😍 one of the few books you've read and liked that I've also read and liked (actually I loved it 🙊😍)
Yay! This and The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie!
You can put the manga in the box spine first so you won’t damage the pages. I was debating if I should buy this, and now I really want to. Thanks for the review!
It’s definitely worth it.
I have yet to dive into Death Note but the concept always intrigued me.
It's a great idea
🖤💚 I just got the 6 vol black editions can't wait to start reading it.
It’s a really fun read! Hope you enjoy it
It's been a few years since I read the first few volumes of Death Note. But I've wanted to revisit and collect the series. Happy to hear the single volume edition isn't too cumbersome.
It certainly felt to me like a good way to read the series. Cheers, James
L is actually 25 when he died
Finished the anime maybe like a couple months ago and am currently enjoying the manga. I’m reading the Black Editions, though. This all-in-one edition seems like a neat thing to own but also seems a bit fragile and cumbersome to actually read with how bulky and chunky it is, but that’s just based off looks. What do you think?
I actually found it surprisingly easy to read - and it held up really well
I love the Deathnote anime, I really should read the manga!
You should!
I read Death Note several years ago. I loved the 1st and final thirds, the middle third was dull and the quality really dropped. I saw the 2 films and L: Change the World beforehand, I reccomend these over the Western version.
As far as manga goes, I think you will like Monster by Naoki Urasawa.
I've heard good things about Monster - thanks for the recommendation!
DeathNote is my favorite manga. Love L's and Light's dynamic. Netflix has the anime series on (which is exactly like the book) and a 2 hourish movie (simply HORRIBLE). Thanks for your review!
Ah I might give the series a try! Glad you enjoyed the review 😊
Nobody: It's impossible to work out and read at the same time
Me: * me doing arm curls while reading Death Note * you were saying...?
LOL!
Wow, I bet it feels cools to have read the whole thing!
It did!
As a harrc0re mang0 collectr0, I immediately clicked on this video because it's one of my favorites, including the animated series.
👍🏽😎👍🏽
I like mangoes too!
Honestly I recommend one best manga suspense and mystery Monster by Naoki Urasawa.
So what are differences between the manga and the anime??? I know the ending is different.
Hello this is Bad and I am here to leave a message. That’s huge! Never seen a book like that . Incredible!
It was a whopper!
@@CriminOllyBlog obviously it was fun. See this is why I like your channel. I never seen anything like it and now I want it
@@badrad9226 LOL sorry about that!
@@CriminOllyBlog don’t be sorry , I like a challenge 😉 it just gives me more motivation to find neat books
Great channel and interesting review. I'm a bit surprised about the girlfriend being annoyingly drippy as I often dislike this kind of thing, but found her good / okay.
To me she provided quite good comedy and she came with her own demon / complications.
But I saw some of the anime first so may have been predesposed to like her (with some annoyances).
I definitely recommend the anime, and the two Asian live action movies for Deathnote. The L only movie was okay but forgettable. The western live action movie was unnecessary and inferior - the best thing was that Willem Defoe did the voice for Light's demon.
I do fancy checking out the anime! My problem with the girlfriend was that all she wanted to do was please Light rather than seeming to have any will of her own
Great review. I can't believe you didn't weigh that sucker! 😂 - 📚MJ
I probably should have!
@@CriminOllyBlog Because I am that person -- the US Amazon site lists the weight at 3.41 pounds.

It could literally kill someone if it fell on them from the sky! #DeathNote
🙈💦
@@eriebeverly that sounds about right
I really like Death note and i want to buy all in one but everyone is saying that its really hard to read it and the page quality is bad. Is it hard to read? Does his Page quality is trash?
I found it fine to read in this edition. The pages are thin but decent enough
@@CriminOllyBlog thank you really much for your answer
I loved it, and the anime.n it was made into a film, which was nowhere as good. If you ever get a chance track down my favourite anime Kaiji. Seasons 1 and 2. The best thing I have ever seen.
I'll look out for that! Cheers!
Have you seen the Netflix film?
No, not yet. I think I will watch it at some point though
Too bad it’s YA, it would be interesting to read a book that size, and I want to try more manga.
Don’t be put off by the fact that the adversaries are in their late teens / early twenties. The intricacies of the plot make it plenty involving for any reader. I was about sixty years old when I first read it.
I'd still recommend it, there is a lot to enjoy
Did you read it in one sitting
Golly, no
Huh? So the book thought out an idea and manaaged to make it work for two thousand pages, and it was only a little padded. Kind the opposite in the west. They set up a concept, and devolves in petty drama. I watched the movie Smile, and it sort like Deathnote in that it has a Demon, and it involve people dying under these rules. Couldn't get to the end of the movie before it petty drama. They didn't even examine the concept.
Yeah I think the fact it was manga helped though. 2000 pages of manga is a lot less than 2000 pages of prose.
I have an L tattoo :D
OMG are you the latest L?
@@CriminOllyBlog No comment!
Death Note ended after L died.
I did enjoy the first part of the story the most, I have to say
Hey you don say manga like manga you say it like maga the n is silent
No I gave up on Japanese 'literature' a long time ago. I found this review to be a bingo call for it actually: padding, lots of characters, lots of plot twists, lots of explaining, no action, trying to be too clever.....zzzzzz....zzzzzzz and of course 2400 pages, where 400 would have sufficed. I rather liked the term: annoyingly drippy 🤣 - so many things I could say there, but all I'll say is, no comment.
How’s Japanese non fiction?
@@CriminOllyBlog Excellent ! I can recommend a truckload. (Toyota of course). 😁
