Really enjoyed this interview - as a tester I've worked with many BAs and they've been a good source of information wherever I've worked. Interesting background as well - Psychology to Business Analyst!

Been working in IT for 30+ years, and have had many tech roles, from applications/systems developer to database programming. Been working the last 10+ years as a BA (currently remotely) and its been the most satisfying role. Pippa is right, being a people person definitely helps and makes the work enjoyable. Also having empathy and knowing how to read people helps as well, and being a team player. This is not to say the work is easy -- managing people and expectations can be challenging. It takes patience, doggedness attention to detail and the ability to effectively communicate, verbally as well and especially writing in terms of documentation -- use cases, user stories, design docs, test cases, etc. Its not for everybody but for those with the right skill set its a personally rewarding career.
BTW, stumbled on this channel today, love it. You guys are great interviewers!

@@TheHumblePenny thanks !!! I just took a 4 month SQL course, I loved it. Then I did a diploma in data science which was in the form of a bootcamp. My capstone project ( all written in Python ) helped me because the hiring manager asked to vire my project. Then for the interview I had to present a case study with excel. Learnt: pivot ables, drop down menus, sumproduct, if statements ( like in SQL and Python ) did some rounding -4 as k argument) and a ton of other stuff but the data science bootcamp and SQL course really helped. I'll.only be using excel and google sheets for this though ! And some Tableau ! :-) otherwise my background has been in art and I have been an admin at a hospital for 5 years. So I feel very blessed to have this first job as a BA .
