@@sadmiqoxiv It's only very brain dead in specific fights with specific kill times. If there is any down time in the fight (see limit cut in p2s, dive in p3s), you will lose all of that damage because you've drifted out of control. If the kill time is slightly shorter or longer than you plan on, your damage will go down the toilet as well. And even then, it's not very brain dead because you have to hit twin snakes when it has less than a second of duration left in order to maximize dps.
In all fairness, I still out of habit still do all the positionals cause monk was so heavy on it for all of its life till endwalker. Translation I can't break out of it no matter how much I try.

for me the level 70 fist weapon, the antiquated sudarshana chakra fist(and you bet i had to check how to spell that multiple times) thing is really good, still using fists instead of strapping two cheese graters to your hands, but has a wuxia power feel to it.

I was never interested in Monk, I got it up to 50 just to get it there, and haven't touched it since. But hearing that the third part of the standard combo is different every third one while the others are different every other, really makes me want to keep going with the class. That sounds pretty fun.
Well the dash of a dancer is a shorter distance than thunderclap. You would have to reduce the distance or have too few situations you would be able to use it without dashing off the arena. As a mnk player, is that desirable? As a dnc player I would say that the monk thunderclap is more usefull. There are almost no situations I use my dash unless I mess up something and try to fix it, but it's a huge positional difference between phys and melee. So I dont have a strong opinion on it. I just dont see how many situations that short dash would be usefull. The aoe clipping is crazy on it so you could just run out and it would do about the same.
only weird thing with new monk is always overwrite demolish/ts the combo before you go into a burst phase lol even if its at 9 seconds( which will happen right before your 2nd full burst window)
My Monk brothers apparently need this man. I have seen some horrible Monks in my Expert recently. They need God. Also, I believe Chair, every job is easy at a basic elvel, but as if to spite that, I am seeing Monks doing sub 3k DPS as recent as this morning. I cannot comprehend how humanity got to this point, but I hope we can discover and rectify it soon.

New Monk is so much better. I leveled from a level 1 Pugilist to level 65 Monk in Shadowbringers' final patch before Endwalker and it was just the most boring thing ever. You ain't lying when you say positionals we're all it had to keep it interesting and that just felt like a chore (not to mention extremely annoying at lower levels where tanks haven't figured out not to spin mobs needlessly yet). Now it's actually pretty fun.
general play monk is pretty nice, but i cannot fucking stand how annoying it is to fully optimize monk fumbling with perfecting your demolish/twin snakes without any loss or early refreshes and using the formless off perfect balance properly to always do so

If you wanted a mediocre monk guide you could've just asked me. I'm a bit brainless so I just group up all my flank and rear positionals and alternate between them while weaving the other buttons when I can.
[dawntrail] now with the upgrades to brotherhood and six-sided star, 6 monks is the strongest being in the multiverse, able to put out a combined potency of around 10k on average every 7 GCDs.
Personally I prefer to do things the easy way and the hard way. That's why I move across the greater Canadian land mass every time I want to change positionals. There. I've done my part for the algo. Or whatever.
The only melee dps I've played so far has been Ninja so I might try monk to see if I like it more. I'll probably be a bard/healer main this expansion but it should still be fun to try out.
I don't usually do this but when I get back in the game, I might try to copy your hotbar setup. I've been using one with numpad numbers in mind for a long te but I'm hitting a wall of performance pretty hard.
just wait til you learn the DK rotation where you spam Dragon Kick as filler (and only refreshing twin snakes when you refresh dot) (and you do burst normally) and it's only 0.5% less dps than optimal

At level 34, I simply collected my forms into 3 separate physical groups, left, middle and right. Then I just button push anything that comes available in left to right succession, varying among the available buttons, adding a meditation here and there. Not perfect but I took the enmity off a tank once, so I was doing damage. Getting the enmity off me consisted of rotating my position from back to front where the tank was, then just stand there doing nothing until the tank regained enmity, then rotate to target backside again. I'm a sprout still learning, never played FFXIV.
leveling monk was probably the most miserable experience i've ever had in this game, not needing to play it until next expansion is the best part of the new monk to me
I'm level 39 right now, and that pretty much sums up my thoughts. it just feels awkward, and I like most low level rotations (even Black Mage). And the cherry on top is the Class Quest giver who insults your intelligence for no reason (even though I main scholar.) I better start throwing Ki-attacks, or Star-Platinum flurry punching soon, or I might just need to rethink this "every class at max" thing I'm trying to do.

The "mistake" Blitz is not an aoe is the answer. Elixir Field and Rising Phoenix are multi target, so its always worth it to use Phoenix's strong potency over the guaranteed crit of Destroyer.
thunder clap suck, i want reaper gap closer for monk, its more comfortoable cause it not require target something, you just teleport on 15 yalms from/to something, and you not needed panic targeting you ally for escaping aoe on last milliseconds

Why would you alternate Dragon Kick and Bootshine? Even with Leaden Fist, Dragon kick STILL has higher potency, so using bootshine at all is a waste of DPS. Edit: Also ignore Snap Punch and True strike, Dragon kick STILL has more potency and does not require positionals. Dragon Kick -> Twin Snakes -> Demolish -> Dragon Kick Spam until Twin Snakes it about to fall off, Refresh Twin Snakes and Demolish, Repeat and use OGCDS It might not be perfectly optimal, but people are parsing orange with it.

I use the final ShB relic. Also still has you punching with actual fists, but with also having sharp crystals cloating aboce them for extra stab

not to rain on ur parade but that tank prolly didn't have stance on i can hit a mob 1 time w/ aoe and dps completely kill it w/o losing agro
