There's actually a hint that reveals early that neither Ranpo nor Lovecraft are actually gifted: their "gifts" are named after references to things that exist in the author's literature, but do not reference actual titles.
I mean, neither does Atsushi's from the looks of it, his ability isn't a direct title drop, just a reference to an event, yet that's a Gift.
