I love your book reviews and your sincere acknowledgement of women being ignored in western history. It's very refreshing, brave, and intelligent.

This sounds great. I’m intrigued by the idea of relating history through verse.

It's worth checking out for sure! Yeah, I particularly like Reznikoff's project of taking legal history and transforming it into poetry -- there seems to be an ideological separation between "history" and "poetry/literature" in the modern world, but many cultures throughout history don't separate them at all!

Love the concept! Not sure if the format is enticing to me, but I’m glad it exists and you got so much out of it.

Thanks! Yeah, it's a really cool concept. I can certainly see the formatting and style not being for everyone, but I've really been enjoying these kinds of books lately. I hope you're well, Fraser -- I miss seeing your videos!

@@travelthroughstories thanks! I’m Starting to have more energy now finally, so might start making videos again. And my reading is slowly becoming as focused as before, whereas in the last couple months my mind has not been good at focusing on tasks.

This sounds like the perfect pick for my feminist book club, thanks for the great review! I've been gravitating towards books in verse this spring, so this is a welcome addition.

Very interesting Sean! You have the same effect as your concluding words in the video, this would've gone by me completely unnoticed but now I've sat and meditated for a bit on these matters as well. Thank you for the thoughtful excerpts and keep up the great work.

Thanks, Echo! It's a really unique book about a topic that I think many of us in the modern world take for granted. I'm glad I could put it on your radar!

You always review the most fascinating books! The etymology of 'midwife' in Icelandic is so interesting - in Spanish, one of the ways to say 'to give birth' is 'dar a luz' or 'give to the light', though none of the many names they have for midwife have that poetic feel.
Sounds like a perfect book for all of us addicted to "Call the Midwife"...
ETA: you've also made me want to read Testimony, which amazingly, it seems I can get from the library!

Interesting! I didn't know that about the Spanish. I hope you decide to pick this one and Testimony up. Both are incredibly powerful. Thanks, Erin!

I often have difficulty with poetry. So much of it I find impossible to understand. This sounds much more accessible. Thanks.

I also struggle with a lot of modern poetry -- I've been reading some John Ashbery lately and, while I'm enjoying it a lot, I find most of it to be impenetrable. I've been enjoying this kind of minimalist poetry lately though. I hope you enjoy it if you decide to check it out!
