Great video! Two questions: Why don't you have a ballhead for the gorillapod? And how do you like the red color on it? I was thinking of switching from the OG gorillapod (Focus aka 5k) to the 3k but like the bigger ballhead and the all black so I might have to do some spray painting.
Thank you!! 👊🏼 I didn’t have the ballhead mainly because I didn’t want to pay for it at the time 🤣🤣 I think I’ll end up getting one before long. As for the red, I honestly haven’t noticed. Doesn’t bother me much. Let me know if you end up getting one! 🤙🏼
I'll probably end up getting one and playing with it and if it doesn't feel sturdy and let me use the ballhead I want to, I'll return it. Fun fact: I live around the corner from B and H Photo. And yea, you definitely should invest in the ball head. I saw the part where you put the gorillapod on the table and have to adjust the camera off the gorillapod...that's way harder than using the ball head...which I'm sure you know since you used the manfratto or whatever the other tripod was. It's a wise investment for your vlogging and recording. Just my two cents. And thanks for your answers.
First of all, I'm super jealous you live that close to B&H! Second, thank you so much for your advice. I do think the ballhead would make it easier to maneuver and get the shots I want (I get pretty frustrated at it sometimes and that would probably solve those problems for me)
I'm late do this discussion yet am looking at a gorillapod and was wondering what does the bullhead actually do? What is the benefit of having it?
Picked up a 5K with ballhead yesterday at a thrift store for 3 buck, in new condition. Ya, I'm now looking for accessories see what I can do with it.

Used gorillapod, in fact 2 of them (same model) and both went loose very quickly where the nodes were popping out and it wasn't holding well. I haven't used them with a DSLR not had your version so maybe I got the lower end therefore it had lower quality but after watching so many videos around "how to fix" popping legs, it just made me weary of the brand. I also didn't have much luck nicely and smoothly wrapping the legs around a thinner rod. With that said, I love the version with magnetized leg bottoms. If I had stayed with the brand I would've gotten those or added those as DIY. With all that said, currently I'm using a different one that has a super flex legs that are not "node" like. they're super useful and easy to travel around with. i have the ball head on mine, which is nice when you're wrapping it around/on things

I believe the one I used here was a 18-55mm. I now use a 10-18mm and it's my favorite

I got a 3k and it just can’t take the weight of my gh5 & sigma lens...maybe the 5k can do the trick?

I've used one for various projects over the past two years. It's a great little tripod for unconventional spaces. I never did the vlog thing but totally see how it would be beneficial.

do you recommend 5k for 80d + shotgun mic ? or go for 3k for slightly lighter weight?

What's the difference between 5K and 5K Pro? I've got Canon 80D, too, so I'm wondering which one to get.
I use my iphone to record my videos and use the go pro grip tight mount on a extendable tripod by another company, which I cannot off the top of my head remmeber who they are but Joby just made their own version of the tripod I do use and will be getting!

It's funny because I bought a windscreen when I bought my gorillapod for vlogging so fortunately no wind noise :D I got the 3k though.
Gorilla pods are ugly and definitely not worth it. They eventually get loose and don't even hold. I've been through several of these already and will not make the same mistake again. I prefer the regular telepods vs gorillapods. Plus I hate blending in with the rest.
