- Today, if asked, most of us would describe ourselves as “Christians”, some may be as “Born-again”, others that we are “Saved”.
Those are all good, valid, and proper terms; but, what is amazing is how far we have moved from what the New Testament called those who were saints and headed to Heaven.
If you just read and note the descriptions as you proceed through the books of the New Testament, you would assemble a list of the:
NEW TESTAMENT NAMES OF CHRISTIANS
Those who are part of God’s family are called by an amazing galaxy of terms in the New Testament. Most of us have heard of the top seven, but altogether there are almost 100 different ways that born-again believers are named in the New Testament.
Beyond the top seven, there are many different combinations of words used one, two, three times like aliens and strangers” (1 Peter 1:1, 17; 2:11); “kingdom of priests” (Rev. 1:5-6; 5:10); and "chosen people" (1 Pet. 2:9).
Here is a brief summary that may surprise you. Let me give you the top seven in reverse order:
Seventh place: “Christians” = 3x (Acts 11:26; 26:28; 1 Pet. 4:16);
Sixth place: Followers of “The Way” = 5x (Acts 9:1-2; 19:9, 23; 22:4; 23:14; 24:22);
Fifth place: “Witnesses” = c. 27x (Luke 1:2; 24:48; Acts 1:8, 22; 2:32; 3:15; 5:32; 10:39, 41; 13:31; 26:16; 1 Pet. 5:1; 2 Pet. 1:16-18);
Fourth place: “Saints” = 62x;
Third place: Those Jesus asked and they were “Following/Followers” = c.100x;
Second place: Those who were “Believing/believers” = 266x;
First place, and most used is: “Disciples” = 274x (John 13:35 ; Acts 6:1-2 ; 11:26 ; 14:21-22 ; 18:27).
That’s why we refer so often to the truth that:

I was thinking the same thing! I paused as well and couldn't understand why so many people were offended. Disipleship is simply part of a believers life after we are born again. How we are to walk like Christ . I love reading the book of acts because that's where the true church started after Jesus death and Resurrection. This book also instructs us on how to be a disciple of Christ.
John 3:16
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
What about the thief on the cross? He asked Jesus to remember him when He gets into His Kingdom. Jesus answered the repentant thief with the most hopeful words possible: “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43). A thief who woke up in the morning on his way to hell had his eternal destiny changed with a simple plea to the Savior. “Jesus, remember me.”
There is a reason why God allowed that part of what happened there in the Bible.
Did the thief have time to become a disciple or to be baptized? No. Why would Jesus have one set of rules for some regarding salvation and a different set for others?
It is because of faith and not works lest any man should boast. God says in His Word.
Read Romans 10:9-10
That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your
heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it
is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it
is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
Not all who say Lord will get to heaven. You need to read the separation of the goats and the sheep. You obviously ascribe to "easy believeism" this profess his name this "alter-call" salvation.😢
Yes, it's easy believism....thank God. Else, no one could be saved. See John 1:12, 3:18, 5:24, 6:28-29 & 6:47, Acts 2:21, 16:31, Romans 1:16, 1 Corinthians 1:21...then get back with me on the list of works we need to perform to have our sins forgiven?

@@corybritton1966 Sheep and Goats are all about "believers and non believers", NOT WORKS. Jesus said WHOEVER BELIEVES IN ME, CALL UPON MY NAME AND YOU SHALL BE SAVED. He did not say, go out and become a disciple and do a bunch of push ups and dance a certain way and say certain phrases and jump through hoops...he said BELIEVE IN ME!
@@corybritton1966 Shouldn't salvation be easy?! Wasn't the bronze snake easy? Wasn't the thief's response on the cross easy? Why is it that one EASY sin, ONE moment in time had the power to condemn everyone to damnation for eternity, but the ONE act of the cross, that ONE moment in time is not sufficient to save without there being a continual burden of proof to prove it during our lifetime to get into Heaven? The Bible talks about this. If at that moment ALL your sins are forgiven past, present, and FUTURE then isn't unbelief, or falling away forgiven as well? Even if it was a day later? How can you judge a person's salvation by their fruits? Is the Holy Spirit not keeping up with your timeframe? And what are fruits in the Bible? Beyond salvation it all comes down to rewards. There's no more sin to judge you, you get in, you just lose rewards. This new term "Easy believism" is a slam used by preachers and people who mix grace and works to justify salvation. This belief is erroneous, creates doubt, and puts people in bondage because it destroys the power of the Gospel by creating fear and doubt. Also, you are focusing too much on others salvation when that's the Holy Spirits business which is sin.
True salvation produces good works. Ephesians 2:10. Recreated in Christ to do good works. James 2:18..
I'll show you my faith by my works. We can't earn our salvation but out of our salvation comes good works

Feed on the Word of God. allowing His Word to transform us by renewing our minds..

Head knowledge and heart knowedge are two different things.
There is certainly such a thing as backsliding, but the Lord will never leave us in that state. His Holiness, Majesty, and Love wouldn't allow it
I knew I was saved during a very difficult period, and I was displeased because God didn't handle affairs the way I expected Him to deal with these issues.
I realized that was a sinful way of looking at it, because I had placed myself above God.
I prayed for forgiveness, and said
"Lord, if I turn from you; where would I go?
To whom could I turn to?"
It was then, that I began to realize that if we praise God only when things go great, then our walk is immature, and very shallow.
It's during our most difficult times, when we grow the most as believers.
Our Faith grows tremendously as we come out the other side, and can look back. Our understanding grows as well.
I wouldn't change a thing except for all the times when I grieved the Holy Ghost.
I praise the Lord even in difficult circumstances now, because I realize God loves me very much, and only has my best in mind. Same with each believer.
"It's tough to kick against the goads"......I've tried too many times, lol.

@@mikelyons2831 , Good works include many things. Selflessly helping another is often part of the equation.
Helping a widow by mowing her grass for instance.
Going to another country to do missionary work. (Lots of different good works in doing this, because it's a team effort)
Seeing a hungry brother or sister, and buying a meal, or maybe purchasing a sleeping bag if it's winter (Some homeless people prefer to avoid programs to try to house them. "Too restrictive and confining" in rules).
Giving your personal testimony of how you came to believe, and follow Jesus is certainly a good work.
Good works cover many aspects of daily life, and the sacrifices we might make in order to help someone.
God uses us in fulfilling His plan.
If we are obedient, good works natually will manifest and become evident as a pattern in our daily lives.
Hopefully I have clarified good works for you.

I have always told people Jesus is the only way to Heaven and to ask Him for forgiveness for sins and to trust Jesus only in this corrupt world. Who knows if I got through to anyone but they know I never turned on my faith on God. I'm going on 30 years being a believer.
'Faith, Hope and Love abide these three, but the greatest of these is Love'... 1Cor.13
John 3:15-16
15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Not seeing where it says do works. Works are what we are inspired to do with sharing the word, helping others by testifying of our experiences with the Lord. These are things we feel along with feeling the weight of sins when we do them or afterward. Works based is like the egyptian model of weighing your heart at the end of life and hoping you make it into heaven.
We are all part of Gods plan. He will make his work done through us wether we are conscious of it or not. God doesnt need us to do anything. He was perfect before we came along.
As far as works based salvation, i disagree as does scripture. What i do believe is we have a desire after becoming saved to spread what we have learned and witness and care and love others.
I hope whoever reads this reads and learns about the scriptures for themselves and use these videos as a diving in point to look things up for themselves.
This is the first time I've heard John go down this road and im unsettled by it and will pray and read for myself to find the truth.

Jesus had hundreds of deciples, Jews. They believed. But only a dozen followed Him, the others left. John 6
I've heard most decent preachers all go down that road. There are two sides to the salvation scale, believe (ie trust) and do(ie obey). At any given time in the lives of believers, young or old in the faith, broken and beat up or fairly unscathed or basically normal with little trauma or pain in life God the master surgeon and mender of each of our lives knows just where each of us are on the road to Heaven and Glory. I'm so glad he's in charge of our journey and not man. God knows our hearts, and true inner makeup. The Word does say many a believer dies early because of taking communion in unworthy ways. The Word also says he'll allow a believer to be taken because they are living in continual sin.
Salvation is a gift, unearned. Keeping our salvation cannot be earned or bought. So whose a good little disciple vs whose not a good little disciple isn't the point of who is actually going to heaven.
Preachers have a hard line to tow endeavoring to preach the whole counsel of God's Word.
Rom 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
Rom 4:7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.
Rom 4:8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

Matthew 7:21 Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, BUT HE WHO DOES THE WILL OF MY FATHER WHO IS IN HEAVEN 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ Jesus says very clearly here if you do not do the will of the father, if your faith and belief is not evidenced in your works you will be amongst the many he tells to depart from him. These people clearly believed in Jesus and yet Jesus said that is not enough and they would not enter his kingdom. If belief in Christ does not change you to be more Christ-like I’m sorry but you do not have true belief!! It’s like declaring I am a Vegan and eating meat every chance I get. It’s one thing to still struggle with living up to being Christ like but if you don’t even attempt to change and keep living as you were before Christ you are NOT a true believer.
So sad to see many of the comments here are of the confused who couldn't discern this fine deep message and what he was truly talking about. The negative comments quite often come from the weaker brothers that the Apostle Paul spoke about.
God is either omniscient or He isn't. He knew every sin I committed in the past and every sin I will commit in the future. Jesus chose to suffer horribly and sacrifice Himself in my place 2000 years ago so that I'd be able to stand, washed clean before the Throne of Judgement if I chose to believe in Him and have faith that He is who He says He is. I believe every word and have faith that Jesus has the power and authority to offer me salvation and keep His promise.
His sacrifice was accepted and deemed worthy by God, but apparently not by some Bible interpreters who demand proof through my works.

The first words I read by Jesus was the sermon of the mount. I cried so hard and I said: finally I’m home!!!
because I not only believe what he says, I lived it! Finally someone was speaking about it.
BELIEVE IN JESUS' PAID THE PRICE ALREADY SO YOU CAN GO TO HEAVEN.
Salvation is a free gift from God. It is free, given the moment you trust Christ as your savior. Merging Salvation and Discipleship is heresy and preaching Lordship Salvation is dangerous. "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast."
Now THIS is what I was taught and what I have believed and read about. This is totally understandable, not being a "disciple" being the ONLY WAY. I could have sworn that Jesus said: I AM THE ONLY WAY...not { become a disciple and that is the only way }.

@@strictlace I was thinking the same thing. What he was saying just made no sense to me. I used to watch him and listen to his teachings, but I don't think I want to do that anymore. He's going to be leading people away from Christ like that.

I was the prayer at four with the wide eyes later in life, so I'll stop saying I came back. I've often wondered if it's more challenging to be saved before you had the experience of death row murderer who found Jesus and felt that huge change.
It almost like hes saying..." Im NOT saying obedience will save you. I'm just saying if your truly saved you'll obey."
Two sides of the same works coin.
One side says works save. The other side says the saved work.
Either side of the same works coin.
Either its grace through faith OR its faith evidenced ONLY by works.
Either confessing with your mouth and believing with your heart saves ( Romans 10:9-11) or it doesn't.
Either whosoever believes saves ( John 3:16)...or it doesn't.
Either if thou believest with all thine heart thou mayest ( Acts 8:17)
Either some are saved so as by fire ( 1 Corinthians 3:15).........
Or only the truest, most obedient, most devoted disciples go to heaven.

However a person is not saved from hell by any of them.
Sorry Jack Barker. Whoever calls upon the Name of the Lord will be saved. Period.
This is why we are not to judge. Yes, share your faith, but it is up to the Holy Spirit to convict and the timing of that conviction. For some salvation will come at their last dieing breath.

Any time I mention having received the Holy Spirit, people will ask me:" How do you know when you receive the Holy Spirit?"
The problem isn't that you won't know if you've received the Holy Spirit, you will know, the problem is people don't actually understand repentance.
You will not receive the Holy Spirit if you don't repent, there's no pretending to repent.

This is the 1st time I disagree with you. Salvation is by Grace, not works.
saw a video of an old pastor who died came back, reports very few make it, he was sent back with a message for the church and spent last ten years doing that.
Is he Jesus, only He can do that, nobody else. Its satan deceiving them if they did.
Other pastors have died and saw the opposite. I don't follow those near or after death testimonies.
Paul, our apostle says in Romans 1:15 KJB
So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also.
(Then he follows up with the gospel)
Starting with sin as in a court of law and we are found guilty.
Romans 3:21 But now! Paul explains how we receive justification in the eyes of God.
God imputes his righteousness unto us when we believe in Jesus and have faith in his blood. Romans 3:24-26 KJB
Believe as Abraham did, fully persuaded.
Romans 4:21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
Consider reading Romans 1-4 KJB for justification, then the rest of Romans is for sanctification (holy living) Death, burial and resurrection is what we remember for sanctification.
5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
Romans 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
1 Timothy 4:10
If we claim to be children of God, then there should be proof that it is so. Actions prove that we've been born from above.
How many to be saved?
How few to be lost?
Qualify your statement.
Also, saying " I'll know it when I see it" isn't an answer and is the default response of someone who can't defend thier position.
@@matthewkinsey9044 we are not the ones who qualify the works. God is, he knows our hearts and our action. Jesus himself said that works is needed. Salvation through faith is free to all but if you say you believe and your belief doesn’t change you and bear fruit then you don’t really believe!! A Vegetarian that eats meat at every opportunity is NOT a vegetarian. Faith in Jesus Christ calls you to be more Christ-like and follow his teachings. If you just have the faith and don’t follow you are at best a hypocrite and at worst a liar, for you never had faith and you never knew Christ
@matthewkinsey9044 Salvation has proof as fruit. A good tree cannot bear evil nor can an evil tree good. What could you possibly not understand? When someone is born again, they aren't washed, trained, or given a haircut. They are a new creation. They will live like it. I live like it. You also know folks who live like it. It's called fruit.

If a saved person "will" ( I assume you mean must) live like it, then I presume a born again individual cannot live Un-like it?
Who are those whose works are burned up then at the Bema seat? Who are those "saved so as by fire"
Must be some other group then.

@matthewkinsey9044 I can only speak what I know to be true. We must trust God with our salvation like you trust that chair you sit in to support you when you put all your weight on it. The same is true of salvation. If you cannot believe and trust fully in Christ, you cannot be saved. I don't attempt to prove anything to anyone. I just live it. Good luck on your quest.
If only true disciples go to heaven, what happened to the thief on the cross
Adding works to simple gospel of grace like pharisees. Eternal life is a free gift for faith in Jesus Christ not a reward to be earned by works.
Discipleship is different. It is costly will be persecuted like Jesus christ was persecuted.
Jesus also said a man should love his wife as Christ loved the Church.
Does that mean if a person dosent love his wife like Jesus said then that man isn't actually married?
People here are conflating admonitions from God for believers with conditions for salvation. ( Which is grace alone by faith alone).
If only those obedient, zealous, devoted and utterly smitten with Christ are saved...........then who are those at the bema seat whose works are burned up and suffer loss? Who are those there who are " saved so as by fire"?

What is the definition of a true disciple? Was the thief on the cross a true disciple? I would think he was more than a thief to be put on that cross. My mother accepted Jesus a few months before her passing. Was she a true disciple? Have these 2 been sent to hell? I’m of the understanding that confessing your sins, professing Jesus as Lord and Savior believing the about His birth, sinless life, his innocent death, resurrection and ascension were the essential components of salvation. So now apparently if you don’t fit the definition of a true disciple, bell bound you are . Guess what very few of us are that perfect and disciplined. I respectfully disagree brother. I know you mean well but I believe that there is a difference between salvation and sanctification just as there is a difference between a believer and a disciple. We should all become disciples of Christ but to say that a believer is automatically a disciple is like saying everyone who believes exercise is healthy and good for you works out everyday. At the bema seat explain how a person whose works are burned up gets into heaven as one escaping through the flames… disciples lead a life pleasing to God so how can a person who is a disciple have ALL their works burnt up?

Eternal life in Him. He gives eternal life. He said He is the way, the truth and the life, no one COMES TO THE FATHER but through Him. Where is the Father? Jesus is the one who took our sins upon Himself. If we believe in Him and what He has done for us on the cross, then we have eternal life in and through Him. Where is Jesus? In heaven. He said He is going to prepare a place for us in His Father's house, that where He is we may be too. There are many many references in the Bible that we are going to heaven.
Peter said, "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord".

A thief who woke up in the morning on his way to hell had his eternal destiny changed with a simple plea to the Savior. “Jesus, remember me.”

It's interesting to me that in Acts the term disciple was used. In Paul's writings, Paul being the apostle to the Gentiles and the Apostle who defined the one new man, the word disciple/disciples is never used. We are a new creation. The term being grafted in means that you become the people of our Father; the apple of His eye. You become a person of Yashar'el. That excuse of you are not Jewish is ignorant. If you are grafted in, you WILL celebrate Pesach and the other High Holy Days. You would stop christmas, easter, halloween, and the rest of the man made traditions. And I will let you in on a little secret. Adonai Yeshua was captured and killed on Pesach and rose during the third day of Pesach (Passover), not easter. Wake up and quit with your foolishness. No one is going to Heaven...Heaven is coming to us. It's all in Revelation. Planet Earth will become surrounded, squarely, by an electric tabernacle. We know this because all the precious foundation stones used by our Deity are firmly embodied within the fabric of this planet, waiting for Almighty God's tent to embrace it. It's a trick of space-geometry, as yet, unknown to us, but is introduced to us by Jesus Christ, at the behest of his Father, Almighty God...through their servant, John.
