  • "I had heard oft of the light of battle which supposedly shone through a special mans eyes, but I only ever saw it once. When I had carried orders from Lee unto Jackson, I found that, in the hottest of that fight, this man was transfigured entirely- The fierce light of Jacksons eyes I will never forget."

Keep speaking the truth. I myself was born in the North but currently reside in the south. I began my study of the War Between the States three years ago and although at first i was a unionist I began to realize that the Confederate States of America was not that bad as the common belief and message suggests. I do not think the Confederacy was perfect as nothing can be perfect but I notice that people tend to judge it with a modern lense, an exceptionalist lense and with a biased lense because of some of the bastards who were highly ranked within the CSA (Nathan Bedford Forrest and Alexander Stephen's) and I simply sit back and wonder, why do we so harshly go after the CSA? There were a culmation of the all the issues within the United States, not just slavery.. but it seems that unfortunately the newer generations have forgotten to understand this.

@@ursamajor3362 You lost the war. I am not even American and I can tell that. The Irish fought for both sides, but the brave boys of the Fighting 69th brought sense to the south and showed them they were wrong.

@@DerPlagueDoctor I never said we won. But the people who "rub it in" like hsfox2792 and you are usually either new immigrants or non-americans. The north even in its destruction of the south held a profound respect for the confederacy which was striking for its freedom in the same way that America had once struck for its freedom from the British. (see Lincoln playing Dixie at the end of the war, or the respect shown betwixt Southern/Northern at Appomattox)
I would never comment on your nations quarrels though it has had many, I would never smugly comment "erm, sweaty, you lost le war" on a video about your (failed) rebellion in 1798. What do I have to gain by degrading or taking away from a conflict in which men felt it pertinent to give their lives? Who are we as modern men to judge men of the past? What are you even willing to die for today? if the answer is something other than "nothing", then you deserve respect, and so do the men of the past.
