So absolutely true! I love love love doing tutorials. Sometimes my mind says, do your own original work. But tutorials make me happy. Im retired, I don't need to pressure myself.
Really good message Lindsay. Definitely using what I have and your videos inspire me to copy your paintings vs. wasting time thinking of what to paint, so thank you!
Love the saying "the only wasted art supplies are the ones you never use" need to write sign with that and hang it next to the paints I never use because they were so expensive. Love the small sketchbook and your tiny painting too!
Thanks, friend! Be sure to take care of yourself. During times of family layoffs, it is easy to get stress that you don’t even realize you have, and end up sick! That is the last thing you need on top of everything else!
You got that right! I tend to be focused in the future and want to course correct when I see things off on the horizon which is what I am trying to do by working more this month but yes, the stress can zap creativity and lead to overwhelm which is how I ended up in this small sketchbook 😆
It’s as if you were in my head reading my mind, the block that I’ve had for the past six weeks! I’ve lost the fun of “doing” and have been too focused on the final outcome. Thank you for your insights!!!❤
@@thefrugalcrafter I’ve now spent the past 1.5 hours “playing” making a birthday card for a family member! My desk now looks like an art store exploded on it, but what fun I had!!!!!!!🎉❤. Thank you!!
These sketchbooks are cute but I will “store them at the store” lol. Best advice although I think it is a little too late for me. And I agree that smaller sketchbooks can help you create more often. I want to start urban sketching/ travel sketching more. I couldn’t get started until I bought a 3x5 cheap royal talens sketchbook. This sketchbook is now about 1/3 full (after 4 months) with full streetscape sketches and quick sketches of the server pouring milk into my cafe con leche or a bowl piles with churros, With this much sketching practice my drawing has improved some but more importantly I can approach a complex subject and draw from life with some confidence rather than just snapping a pic to “draw later”
What a great little picture! So pretty! I had a little tote bag of my original Koi watercolor palette, a water brush, a No.8 Mimik, a few inktense pencils, a bunch of blank Strathmore WC cards, and a Strathmore WC Journal. I kept it next to “my spot” on my couch and every morning I’d have my coffee and do one of your tutorials. 😂 I made quite a few handpainted cards that way and kept them for appropriate use. I stopped when “life” got in the way. I found one of the Journals a few weeks ago when clearing out my arts & craft room. I was surprised at the pretty paintings in it! Did I really do them?? 🤣 I really need to get that little tote bag out again.
Have been binge rewatching/relistening to your videos while working in my studio. Hoping this will increase your income during this time, while your husband contemplates his career strategy. Thinking of you both ❤ xXx
Hahaha I’ve never heard an American RUclips artist use”Bob’s Your Uncle” in their dialogue. I’ve heard Diane Antone use it a lot, I assumed it was a British saying. I love it! And this is such a cute painting and video! I have many days that I need a small, simple painting to do. Thanks for another great video, Lindsay.
Thanks for the encouraging talk, Lindsay! I’m guilty of everything you said and needed to hear all of that. Love your painting…beautifully done, as always ❤
Hey ! I love the painting and I love Christmas balls 😍 ! Thanks for the encouragement ! However I do have lightly used stuff but am learning to not be hard on myself, I've tried hard enough, I am enough and I don't feel guilty of anything !
Yes to the small sketchbooks!. I ❤ the combination of pencils and watercolour. Your wreath is so beautiful and cheerful. I am enjoying the Royal Talens Art Creations square sketch ooks (12 x 12 cm) for this. I take it to museums, cafés and even doctor's offices for quick, low pressure sketches. Even if I only have a pencil, o a pen in my bag, its always fun to sketch something. Thank you for advocating for small low pressure awesome art. Love this daily dose of Lindsay!
Perfect timing. Am way far off target for card making this year! A takeaway gem from this vid for me is "Store it on the shelf (in the store). Wow! Re thumbnails sketchbooks-i just did the exact same thing yesterday!! Pulled out a Stillman & Birn 3x5 that's been sitting for months!! And learned that for dark starry sky its ok to use gouache, Jeez!!! Thanks Lindsay!!❤❤❤
That's a beautiful little painting. I think storing things at the store is one of the most important things I've learned from you years ago. It really cut back on my need to acquire immediately. Good to know about the brushes to use with watercolor pencils, too. I like using them, but sometimes they seem harder to work with. I'll try different brushes. Thanks for all you share.
Your projects are always special, unique and brilliant. Thank you! Just add a tiny ribbon or yarn bow at the bottom and a sentiment and you have a card! Lovely.
Yeah! We all need to have fun and play to make art and Im an old child…sometimes i can even get better and improve… I have a lot of fun trying anything with colors. Many times the result is bad but its always worthy the journey 😃
The artwork is really cute. Never thought about a thumbnail. It’s something I’ll put into practice for my colored pencil , Bible journaling, coloring books. Such a great idea. 🙂
Yes! I found this very inspiring!!! I needed to hear again.... "the only wasted art supplies are the ones you never use" If I were to clean out my 'stash' I would find so much I need to just throw away, but I'm afraid to look, lol.
I ordered your brush set for my friend last night! Yay! Included a couple more of Sarah Burns' brushes for myself too, love that they brought them out semi-open stock.
I haven’t gotten around doing my hand painted cards this year either 😢 I hope I can at least do a couple before Christmas! I so felt it when you said the only wasted supplies are those not used 😅 I shall persevere in using my unopened supplies! Thank you for the insight ❤
That's beautiful, Lindsay and I did not know that about gel and acrylic markers; oops. I hope mine are not dried out because I tried them and then put them away for when I was better at art.
QUESTION: Lindsay, do you make notes on your sketches or are you kind of past that point? For example, what you did or didn’t like about the piece, what you found difficult or what you were really pleased with, or what you think it taught you or what you need to work on. Also, if you use someone else’s photo do you make a note of who took it and where you got it from? For that matter, if you were going to sell a painting that was taken from someone else’s photo how do you make note of that - do you just write it on the back or something???
Great video. Encouraging us to use or store them at the store! Great! Tell us more about that sketchbook please! What was the paper like? Cute size, and you said the magic words... it lays flat!
@@thefrugalcrafterthat is really an excellent answer. I have a lot of pads of arches and I like the blocks so I will cut the paper and make a sketch book. I won’t sew it like I have seen you do. lol. I’ll probably use brads or rings !
Yes I am! I think they are nice but not as good at Artisto watercolor pencils with are like $22 for 72 right now with a coupon an amazon: amzn.to/3VAa1qb so I'd recommend those personally. I think my review is scheduled for 12/23 but I'm always shuffling.

I’m with you! This is for my own entertainment and I dont need to create original works of art. I’m just happy with the process
Great ideas using the mini book, making cards as well, and using thumbnails. Such a sketchbook floozy!!!!!
