- Welcome to our Spotlight Sessions, a series dedicated to conversations with change-makers and people that have made an impact on the community of people with disabilities.
In this episode, we had the opportunity to speak with Ellie Ambuehl, Executive Director of the La Grange Area Department of Special Education (LADSE) in Illinois. LADSE is a special education cooperative made up of 15 member districts, including 2 high schools and 13 elementary schools. LADSE collaborates with its member districts to provide high-quality, evidence-based programs and services and provide comprehensive, cost efficient support, and positive outcomes for students with disabilities ages 3 through 22.
Ellie shared thoughts on the following topics:
1. Her personal background and the motivation to get involved in school administration.
2. Providing life skills and related services to LADSE member districts.
3. Fundraising for community members in a mixed socioeconomic status area.
4. How invisible disabilities are frequently overlooked and why that contributes to knowledge gaps about accessibility and inclusion
