If anybody's interested: This is performed by the Foden's Motor Works Band, the soloist is Martin Lawrence, it was recorded in '42.

When the British become too bored of imperialism, they make the Soviet Airmen's March in English

В армии по понедельникам маршировал под этот марш. Вот времена были.
После прохода всех подразделений под авиамарш нужно было проходить с песней, у нашей эскадрильи была песня "Мы вертолётчики".

Cool, been looking for this version of the song for a while... I swore there was one set of lyrics that was "on our wings gleams the Soviet star" out there somewhere but perhaps I am simply misremembering.

Of course... It is called poetic translation, to translate literally for many songs would ruin the poetic effect either due to removing rhyming scheme or meaning not translating well literally. As such many translations of songs heavily change the lyrics.

      Many find it similar.
Though there's a close to literal translation of this song into German, and a song with nearly same or same music but totally different lyrics which is however not Horst Wessel, but Berliner Jungarbeiterlied.
They were all pretty similar though. Same genre, same time, close location, similar objectives, similar processes that created the societies.
