  • Explore the Sofitel, part of Europe's leading hospitality giant Accor, behind the scenes. Our tour of the recently opened Sofitel reveals the complexities and demands of a luxury brand. The hotel's disconnected layout, from its large lobbies with random chairs to its hidden spiral staircase, reveals the design choices that shape the visitor experience.

This evaluation goes beyond a review to reveal high-end hotel operating issues and design concepts. The hotel's blend of modernism and heritage captivates from the moment you arrive, yet the restaurant's difficult entrance and awkward lobby features suggest a delicate balance between aesthetics and efficiency.
Comfortable and luxurious rooms are properly inspected. His-and-her mirrors, a big soaking tub, and thoughtful furnishings for discriminating travelers give the bathrooms a sophisticated look. We find small concerns like fit and finish and surprising fixture simplicity when we dig further. Luxury accommodations, where perfection is expected, require these subtleties, often disregarded.
Sofitel's innovative room layout includes a separate toilet and vanity space for privacy and convenience. However, implementation occasionally falls short, prompting questions about the balance between innovative design and visitor comfort.
High ceilings and a large layout make the bed a comfortable refuge. The room's trendy aesthetics sometimes contrast with practicality, especially in the work area, which lacks business hotel sophistication and functionality.
Our tour includes hotel food and social places. The contrast between the bar's grandeur and the eating options' limitations illustrates the problems of serving an international customer with varying tastes and expectations.
As we leave, we consider whether the Sofitel can meet its premium standards. Its corridors demonstrate the delicate balance between ambitious design and operational competence. Despite its early struggles, the Sofitel's attractiveness and promise show that it will one day embody Accor's luxury and elegance.

I love your hotel reviews. You seriously should start a "tripadvisor" rating for hotels in China. Best budget, average and high end hotels.

Chinese luxury hotels are very nice on the surface - grand lobbies, marble everywhere, fancy design. Prices are quite low based on location and quality. However, for the most part, they are all similar in that they are entirely soulless.

Most of these hotels in China are ....should I say international hotel franchises? They really should know how to get it right the first time as they have ample experience in the rest of the world.
    Remember, first impressions count.
I don't know, maybe their 'experts' aren't in town yet?
Funny how it is opened to the public but yet not seen ready??

What was the architect thinking with that spiral staircase? Pointless and misplaced.
