Meanwhile I’m looking at the footage I filmed for Worst Books of 2021 and I’m screaming at the camera “this book is trash. Literal garbage. People need to calm down on hating others for making "negative lists". Honestly, making and watching these list help me a lot in figuring out what kind of things I like and dislike in books, which is important and helps improve my experience for the next year.

No offense but why do you need to hear what others like or dislike in order to know what you like and dislike in a book? Firm your own opinions girl. Be an individual. If you can't even think for yourself what other dysfunctions must you experience.

@@phillipstroll7385 Thanks for your concern about my daily "dysfunctions", but don't worry: I'm perfectly capable of forming my own opinions. I don't use these lists to let others tell me what to like or dislike, but I do enjoy hearing other people's thoughts about the things I liked or dislike. Disagreeing and hearing the *why* behind other people's opinions is part of the joy in consuming any type of media for me. The goal isn't to "form my own opinion", it's more so to do with understanding why I feel that way, and why others might feel differently.

@@renee_3364 but you said watching helps you decide what you like and don't like. Hence why I mentioned it. Now you're saying you don't. So in that case, goodbye. If one can't defend their own thoughts I really don't care what they have to say. Thank you and Good luck to you.

I read somewhere that the character of Peter Pan in the original books was never really meant to be "the good guy"? I guess? Like he was supposed to be an example of cruel innocence and what happens when you refuse to "grow up" (grow up in the sense that you start to take responsibility for your actions and grow as a person.)
However, if you want a really good book about a nice Peter Pan with lots of adventure and magic, I reccomend "Peter and the Starcatchers," which I read instead of the original Peter Pan!

Demonata - this was my favourite book series as a kid and until recently I'd often say Lord Loss was my favourite book, though I will concede that as I've got older I remember them less fondly. I think there's middle grades that are accessible to both kids and adults (Percy Jackson, for example) and other ones that are only really entertaining when you're younger, I think most of Shan's books are the latter - though he's a top bloke, I've met him 3 times 😁
Fear Street - I like these because they're simple and quick, sometimes in between a long arduous fantasy you just want something you can tune out to read in between your next big book - that's what the Fear Streets are to me, though I definitely recognise most of them aren't that good, I just usually keep my expectations low whenever I pick one up. Most of them are 3 stars at best but my favourites, out of the ones I've read, are College Weekend and Halloween Party - because they both had really unsettling atmospheres and had twists I was genuinely surprised at so I'd definitely recommend those two at least! Just goes to show that most of them are forgettable because the films were based on the location as opposed to the stories 😂
Girl on the Train - I mean, I thought the film was alright 🤷🏼

What someone loves from a book, other people just don't. And that's definitely okay. The reading world would be pretty boring if everyone, loved or hated the same books. Now to go back and watch you talking about Den Of Viper, because I know its definitely coming.

Omg! Im so happy someone else hated Peter Pan! I just read it a couple weeks ago and I was completely disappointed due to Peter Pan (2003 version) being one of my favorite movies. It really did take the magic out of it for me just like Mary Poppins.

For gay romance you might want to check out the works of Annabeth Albert, maybe something strikes your fancy. They are rather steamy and more romantic than dark. BUT some have the time jump at the end and I know you hate those 😆

The ballad of songbird and snakes
    The secret history
    Witches steeped in gold
The great alone by Kristin hannah
The drawing of three book 2 in the dark tower series by Stephen king
    Duma key

People getting upset over these kinds of videos is honestly ridiculous and they need to grow up. Everyone is allowed their opinions on the books they read and don't need to apologise to butt hurt childish people. If you can't handle it, don't watch these videos! On a positive note, this video was so fun Gavin 😀😀. I laughed when it came to Den of Vipers and Hot Head before you even got going 😂😂. M/M book recs I hope will help you find that 5 star romance: Love in Spades by Charlie Cochet, How to Vex a Vampire and A Villain for Christmas by Alice Winters (anything by her honestly), Unhinged by Onley James for something dark and The Necromancer's Dance by S.J. Himes.

(yes, that includes all my children!) but some of the interactions, the characters they weren't very good people! some of things they said... it was like omg what?!

I would suggest 💯 to listen to the audiobook for The Night Circus. People say it doesn’t have a plot, but I think the plot actually comes off a lot more clearly via audio. I get that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I listened to it this year and it was my favorite book of the year.

I'd give Melmoth the Wanderer a second chance - and I've probably said this hundreds of times already but you have to check out Sarah Perry's take on the novel (simply called Melmoth). I thought Maturin's was excellent, but it could be confusing sometimes.

I found Peter pan to be incredibly boring to read. I'm pretty sure that it was due to the old fashioned language of 100+ years ago. I have the secret garden on a 2022 challenge (the prompt is to read a book with a secret) and if you didnt like that either, then I dont hold out too much hope for me liking it any better. Maybe I better find a more recent book with a secret. LOL

Gavin, since you’re looking for a hot LGBTQ+ romance I would suggest giving “Five Dares” by Eli Easton a chance. The premise sounded ridiculous to me at first and don’t even get me started on the cover. But I thought, why not? I ended up loving it. I would suggest getting the physical/e-book version rather than the audiobook because that one has an unnecessary comment that was deleted from the written version (thankfully). I had so much fun reading it. I look forward to finding out what you think 😉 Happy Holidays! 🎄🎅🏼

Love your opinions. I am very choosy about what I reread, as there isn't enough time to read all the great books out there. I'm a bit confused why you wouldn't mention any middle grade books from the last 10-20 years since you read so many middle grade books (it's why many of us watch your channel, ...well, it is why I do). I am guessing it is a decision made based on last years' fall out :( I guess you can't please everyone.

I'm going to go off a romance series I absolutely love and maybe it has the potential for you to love too. It's paranormal romance(Vampires I'm a different way) so I'm not sure it's your thing or not. The Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward. There's a great M/M romance in my opinion in the middle of the series. And by the way I love your rants and thoughts. You made me laugh a lot.
