Games Played: Diddy Kong Racing (0:01), NHL '94 (0:08), Battletoads (0:30), Rocket Knight Adventures (1:10), Donkey Kong Land III (3:30), Super Mario Land 2 (5:25)
Lol "observer". I am so familiar in being in that role that I'm cringing with agreement with some of your personal stories. Thanks for the great content! Back on topic, a couple of games that have special meaning to me is the original SMB, Adventure Island, and Macross on the Famicom. They were given to me by my pops on Christmas morning when I was 6. Before that, I would squat at my friend's house after school until someone made me go home. He never really supported my love for the hobby as he thought it was just a waste of time, but the few times in my life where he showed support were the best. To that effect, I have fond memories of FFXIII for the same reason as it was the last game I ever received from him. Ugh, ok I think I just successfully made myself sad 🥲
Metroid Prime 2 Echoes. I got it as a birthday present from my mom, before she died on Christmas Eve that year and marked the last present I got from her. And considering how I felt at 13 years old being depressed and truly alone, isolated, I found solace in Samus Aran and her journey to Aether. Made me realize that I'm not the only one that went through this. Now I go through MP2 every year in memory of my mom.
Oh wow, that's really sad. It's kind of like how Jirard The Completionist got DK Country 2 as his last gift from his mom before she succumbed to dementia and ended up dying later. It was the last gift she ever gave him, so it's very meaningful to him. He also plays it every year. That's crazy that her gift to you was so apropos. Samus goes through a lot alone.
Gotta say. Your chanel is my favourite retro gaming chanel. You bring your own nostalgic experiences to the table that we can relate to. 99.9 percent of these youtubers are showing hidden gem vids and want patreon.
@@RetroBirdGaming yeah man you make very good content very relatable , not just a grown up show and tell or a show off session. Keep up this kinda content.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Before the N64, the only games I had been exposed to were on my Gameboy Color. I got to watch the older kids at my babysitters play Ocarina of Time for the first time and it blew my mind. Every time I had the opportunity to watch them play, they would be in a whole new area of the game and it just felt like the game’s world was boundless. Months later I received an N64 as a present with a copy of Ocarina of Time as I’m sure that’s all I talked about at the time. I remember being so helpless and it taking me a very long time to find my sword and beat the first dungeon. One of the older kids gave me written instructions on how to obtain Zelda’s letter in order to show it to the guard to gain access to Death Mountain. He even drew me pictures and a map! I wish I still had that note. This game is the first time I felt like I went on a real adventure. Some of my fondest memories of my first playthrough are just hanging out in the castle market or Kakariko Village, playing the mini games or finding secrets in Hyrule.
My big brother waking me up 12am Christmas morning to open our present - a Nintendo, and the super Mario game that came with it. Played it straight until 7pm in the night. Best memory of my life. Been a Mario fan ever since
Here's one for recent times: I have a Game Gear that the Capacitors broke so I tried replacing them but I have no idea how to do that so I called up my pops and asked if he knew something about soldering. He came over and we worked on it together. Loved it great time with my dad.
The legend of dragoon. It isn’t my favorite game but one that I really enjoy and have a special attachment to. Once upon a time my grandma randomly decided to try and get into video games and got herself a ps1 and a copy of this game both for her and me. And she totally got into it. We would spend hours talking about it. She would then get final fantasy 7, and later a GameCube and twilight princess. Good memories.
I had a friend back in the day that we played Pokémon and Pokémon Pinball. I had Red and he had Blue. We each sunk hours into those games and swapped to complete each other's Pokédexes. We also we ironically really good at the opposite colors table in Pokémon pinball. I remember hooking up my SNES and popping that bad boy into my super game boy and playing on my parents 50" mega tube TV and getting those harder to catch Pokémon on the big screen. Man that was the life.
Skyrim for me. I remember in 2011 when I first got it. I was traveling to dawn star. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky just the aurora borealis and a dragon in the distance. I was mesmerized. And then the soundtrack kicked in. Secunda. From then on I knew that would forever be my favorite game of all time
When I was a kid, my cousin had an Atari 2600 with a bunch of games and then got an NES, while for the longest time we had nothing. My brother and cousin were the same age so I always got relegated to watching them play and could only jump on once they got bored and went to kick the footy. Eventually mum relented after seeing me pining for a console for so long and bought my brother and I a Sega Master System and 2 games - Double Dragon and R.C Grand Prix. I played the heck out of those games. Fast forward to today, I have the SMS, my cousin’s Atari and NES and all his games!
One that comes to mind is wonder boy 3 on the master system in probably 1991. I played it with my cousin for the longest. We were used to platformers but this was the first time we played a Metroidvania kind of game. It was a challenge and it felt like an adventure to work together taking turns. Sadly my cousin passed away in a tragic car accident. I have so many other fond memories of him. But Everytime wonderboy comes to mind I think of him.
Oh man the gameboy used as a weapon story got me haha. One that comes to mind is how I made friends with my parents' work's neighbors kids. They were all car shops and we would play snes at their place. We'd play all kind of games but somehow we all managed to take turns/watch and beat chrono trigger. I cant think of another time I've ever played single player rpg with other people like that. It was nice to have friends to hang out/play games with after school and being stuck at the car shop.
The game most personal and sacred to me as to be Centipede for atari 2600. Got that console and game one christmas and i still have it and the console to this very day. Another great video RetroBird, and i always like what you had to say.
Man I could write you a pretty long list of personally meaningful games and I would probably have to break it down by console, so I’ll spare you and just give you my #1 I got Ocarina of Time for my 13th birthday and completely changed the way I thought about video games. It was the first time I had ever been meaningfully, emotionally invested in a gaming experience. The perfect coming of age game as I was personally coming of age. Nothing will ever top that.
So many gaming memories from childhood. It's hard to pick just one. I remember my dad being just as hyped as we were when Super Mario Bros. 3 came out. I remember it being a pretty exciting moment when we got it. Then, he hogged it and we hardly got a turn lol.
Me too! My parents would play it while we were sleeping and we would get up in the morning seeing a full drawn map of the 4 variants of the card minigame. My dad even woke me up one night asking me to beat that daisy koopa boss, I was 6 yeats old, lol. I remember beating it first try, on his last life with no powerup and then going back to sleep. Such memories...
I got to play Mario 3 either in late 88 or very early 89 when a kid from China moved in down the street and had the Famicom system and had a weird Mario game where Mario could fly. I loved it and told all the kids at school about it, but no one believed me. Then like a year later the Wizard movie came out with the Mario 3 footage in it. I was probably one of the first people in the US to play Mario 3. I didn't get my copy of Mario 3 until Christmas of 90.
I recently bought Diddy Kong Racing CIB, I'll never forget playing it over my friend's houses, I never had the 64 as a kid and now I finally own DKR and can play it from their perspective! It's awesome btw and I always liked it more than MK 64.
For me it would have to be mortal kombat shaolin monks, I remember playing that game with my sister and we got so into it and were able to make it to the end, really great gaming memory for me, also playing star wars battlefront or smackdown here comes the pain with my cousins, I must have logged more than 100 hours into those games
Clash at Demonhead holds a special place in my heart. My cousin and I rented it and spent the whole Thanksgiving weekend playing it in my Grandma's basement. I can still smell her basement everytime I fire it up.
I have a ton of great memories. But I’d have to say one of the best is recent. My wife and I split up a few years ago and I was very depressed. During that time I picked up Horizon Zero Dawn and played it for about six months straight with my kids. That game cheered me up so much and gave me something to look forward to every day. (Honorable mention) The original smash bros. on 64. My friend Nick and I played through so many games together but I remember playing that game and laughing so flippin hard. Especially those double baseball bat knockouts. 😂. Love your channel!
Super Mario Bros. 3 holds a special place in my heart. It was the first video game I ever actually owned as a child. I played it all the time as it was the only game I had for the longest time. I sometimes played it with my older cousins and they would show me many of the secrets. To me, it is really a comfort game that I can always return to and have a good time.
Kickle Cubicle! It was buried way deep into my subconsious. I was always like "what was that game with the giant eyepatch chicken?!" So many memories tied to it with someone sadly no longer around but I finally figured out what it was called and found it online, hope to be playing it the coming week. I saw 5 seconds of gameplay footage on youtube and so much of those memories and things tied to them came back. I closed the book for now and save the rest for when it arrives in the mail!
When GoldenEye 007 was all the rage on the N64, me and 3 friends had some good old fashioned multiplayer going on. At one point one of my friends started saying I was cheating because I was getting a lot more kills than anyone else. I remember clearly that it was when I got my 48th kill (which happened to be the friend that was complaining) that the friend stood up and screamed "YOU'RE CHEATING!!" as he punched me across the face. Good memories 🤣 Thank you for the excellent videos and discussions good sir 👍🏻
Disney's Tarzan on the PS1 is the first game I ever played. To this day i still play it. I love everything from the music to the graphics to the gameplay. Always has a special place in my heart.
I have a special memory with that game, we were visiting extended family, and my cousin didn't have any video games but knew I liked them a lot so he took me to a "console cafe" where he paid some money so we could sit down and play for an hour, and we mostly played that game.
While it might be cliché, back in the mid '90's us kids in the neighborhood did a Sonic 2 lock-in and the goal was to complete the game. no cheats, no hacks, no tools, just beat the game. Sure there might have been a few AOL searches for hints on walk-throughs for "Winged Fortress" but it was a pretty honest run for the '90's. We stayed up all night and finally beat Metal Sonic, huzzah! only to find the final boss. though to that, we had beaten the final boss by day-break. Good friends, good times!
Haha, around 1994, my best friend and I rode our bikes to the Texaco station and each got a 2 liter of Mountain Dew and then stayed up all night, playing Road Rash II!
I have a really big appreciation for kirby super star, for being the game that came with my snes, making it the first video game I've ever played, but also for having the best coop I had at the time, letting me play with my big brother for countless hours of fun. I even appreciate that our battery save battery died pretty early on for some reason. So we were forced to beat the game in one sitting which we did countless times. If not for that, maybe we would have some reservations in deleting a perfect 100% file. I also really like the first halo game, which was the first mature game I played, which my really cool baby sitter would bring to our house to show us. Which also has a pretty good coop. I have a big family so coop games were allways regarded highly.
I know these aren’t very retro (yet), but they’re truly that important to me. My first Pokémon game was White 2. I know I got it somewhere between Christmas 2012, and March of 2013. It was there I caught my oldest Pokémon, COBER the Cobalion, which was the first Pokémon I ever got to level 100, and the sole reason I beat the game back then. As you can see, I named my channel after it. The other game is Team Fortress 2. Middle school was rough. This was during a time where I had fallen out of things that I liked when I was younger, (most of which I came back to years later) so I only really played Pokémon and Sonic. I was an easy target. We’re it not for TF2, I probably would have fallen out of the hobby altogether.
Diddy Kong Racing's Nintendo Power video got me so excited as a kid that it was all I wanted for Christmas that year and remember that fondly. I also remember seeing a Banjo Kazooie commercial and begging my mom to buy it for me and without question and after an hour of phone calls found a Toys R Us 2 hours away that agreed to hold a copy for us and off we went. Great memories around N64 for me.
NHL 97 on PS1. Terrible hockey game now but I remember being blown away at Christmas, seeing video sequences and hockey with 3D graphics. Me, my best friend, brother and my dad loved it and that summer we had a tournament that went on for weeks. Hand drawn table and everything. It seemed like that game was never going to get old... until NHL 98 came out and was the first great 3D hockey game. That's the one to go back and play but even now, that NHL 97 intro is still special.
My favorite game is and was super mario rpg. Never owned it as a kid but i rented it regularly. The music, the boss fights, the axem rangers. So many hot summer weekends in the AC and a cold soft drink forgetting any cares or problems and zoning in on an amazing game. As time goes by you can always look back on old games that resurface great memories or emotions. Its the closest thing to a time capsule or time travel. Turn the power button on and your instantly taken back to where you were and what you were doing the first time a game made an impactful memory in your life. Good times.
Lots of great memories playing Tony Hawk at sleepovers deep into the night. We'd take turns on career mode getting the unlockables, going downstairs for some chips or ice cream, bringing it back up and kept going. And with THPS2, we spent all kinds of hours designing levels and trying them out. Gauntlet Legends was another classic sleepover party game.
Who framed Roger Rabbit on the NES is epic nostalgia for me. I love it! We didn't have a lot of money and I just happened to pick arguably one of the worst games ever, but I didn't know any better back then and really enjoyed any game I could play. I do remember hating ET tho..
The most personally meaningful game to me is Super Mario 64. It was the first game I ever played and just fell in love with it. It was also the game that got me to buy a console myself for the first time, Super Mario 64 DS. It just became another hugely memorable game for me because I got my boxed copy signed by Charles Martinet at Megacon Orlando!
I have a couple of personally meaningful games, but I'll just stick to some of the more retro ones. Mega Man X2 because it was the first game I ever beat. Super Metroid because it was a surprise to me that the last boss was more of an memorable scripted narrative event (especially for a 16-bit game) than a traditionally hard final boss. The first Resident Evil because it was the first 3D and first PS1 game I owned, also the first game and console I saved my money up for. And finally Metal Gear Solid because it was the first game I played that had a strong cinematic sense with actually good voice acting, lol.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a game that I played for a while when my family had a bad issue so it cheered me up and is meaning to me along with the first galaxy game as well
One game that gives me chills everytime i hear it and a game that was really close to me, Zelda ocarina of time, this game got me through my middle school years and even highschool, it was a game i coukd always go to play when life got hard, and still is a familiar world that i can go back to anytime i want, still have my origonal copy
The original Legend of Zelda is the big one for me. My mom got me an NES and Zelda to go with it the Christmas it came out (Or maybe the Christmas after, it's a little fuzzy). I remember seeing the "It's the Legend of Zelda and it's really rad!" commercial and wanting an NES so badly. That Christmas, it was right there under the tree and I played it for YEARS. Another great memory is playing Toe Jam & Earl probably 6 years later with a good friend of mine from school who spent the night. Great memories!
Excellent video! Sonic 2 was one of my first ever games and holds a place in my heart, Final Fantasy X for how it gets you so invested in the characters, and lastly I'd say the Pokemon series on Game Boy which encapsulated my 90s/early 2000s playing, trading and discussing with friends! A special time.
I didnt get a gameboy til 1999 (Pokemon Blue and DKL2, good times!) Formerly being that kid, I want to thank you for being a nice kid and sharing with your cousin :)
Legend of mana, my buddy got the game from his older brother. We didn't have computers back then and i was a stupid kid who didnt know any better but his brother came up with a bunch of myths about the game which got me so intrigued and fascinated by it. My mom took me to kmart and we asked the guy working there if they had it, he unlocked the cabinet and there was one copy sitting at the very back almost hidden. I got that and a green memory card, starting my own file that night was a magical moment.
My grandma got me nhl 95 for genesis for a birthday. I have it in my collection and my neighbor and I played through a whole season, undefeated, as Anaheim. Worst team in the game, but we were good
The first rush for N64. Me and my brother spent hours going reverse on courses looking for all the great Easter eggs in the game, surprisingly has so many secret spots. This was before the internet so we found just about all of them and would just hang out with our cars there. Spent way more time doing that than racing! Also my cousin who passed away, the first time I met him we played smash bros on N64, I could never beat him because he knew how to use the special smash move and even when he shower me how to do it he was still more skilled. Video games hold a special place in time for me.
Lots I could choose from. Summer of ‘91 was the best. Had my shiny new Sega Genesis, brother and good buddy were around every day. Sonic came out and we were pretty much enjoying life like princes. Another was getting SMB3 right when school ended for the Summer, playing it daily until I beat the game. Good times and memories.
So many games & memories over the years. I remember renting a Playstation & Xtreme Games when my cousin came over, but I got food poisoning (or something that made me sick) & slept for most of the day. I ended up playing all night while he was asleep, so it worked out real good to have each of us get some alone time with the system & games before playing together the next day.
Being the younger brother and having to share all the videogames, I usually got the short end of the stick. The hardest game to share was my brothers copy of Pokémon Blue. I must have sounded like a brat trying to explain how that game cant really be shared easily. So on my 6th birthday I got the Atomic Purple Gameboy Color and Pokémon Red. It was the first videogame that was truly mine alone to enjoy, I brought that Gameboy with me everywhere and still have them both to this day!
My best friend at the time Chad got the SNES when it came out when we were 13. We always played Super Mario World endlessly. I have great memories of staying the night at his house and playing it and F-Zero all night long. Good times!!
Twisted Metal and Monster Rancher. I played those a lot with my roommate. I got Bionic Commando and Alex Kidd on Genesis from my grandparents, god rest their souls. Point being they had no knowledge of games. But they were trying to make me happy. I appreciate that now. Also I played Jet Moto for a weekend with my uncles and a friend since we were snowed in at Colorado. We earlier went to a local brewery and picked up several jugs of beer before the weather hit. I was underage. But it was four guys talking crap and having a blast playing a jetski game. Also Estes park is very nice.
Just hearing your story about playing DKR with your cousin brings back so many fond memories I had and how they have endeared certain games to me for years. For Tetris Attack and Bust-A-Move on SNES, I had so much fun playing those with my friends as well as my father. Youth group gatherings will always keep Goldeneye, Mario Kart 64 and Smash Bros residing in a special place in my heart. Turtles in Time is a fantastic game and playing it with my cousin was always such a blast. I got really attached to the characters in Golden Sun, Chrono Trigger, Fire Emblem Blazing Sword and Fire Emblem Awakening. Mario 64 harkens back to the Birthday I got the game and console, my friends and I stayed up all night playing it. Star Fox 64 was the first console game I bought brand new with my own money and I played it on a projector screen, which was rad. There was always something special about Banjo-Kazooie to me and it remains one of my favorite games. Link's Awakening was a game I got with my Gameboy and didn't think I'd like it but it quickly won me over. Super Mario World was the first game I ever owned and SMB was the first game I ever played, so both hold a lot of sentimental value to me.
Mine was Lufia 2 because it was the firt game I bought with my own money! yup I had a pouch full of coins that I purchased it with. It was also the first game I ever teared up to because of the sad ending. Not the greatest game of all time, but one that is meaningful to me...Also it's criminal that you don't have more subscribers!! pls keep making vids!
The games that mean the most to me are probably The Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy on the NES. My older brother and I each had our own save files on LoZ, and we worked through the game separately, but also together-sharing information and acting as a “navigator” for the other as they played. He beat it before me and I was so excited when he did. I finished the game a few weeks later and he was happy for me as well. Similar story with Final Fantasy, but with my best friend instead and we only played while together and essentially shared one save file. Some very special memories. P.S. I absolutely love your channel and your sense of humor. Thank you!
So much of what you say about the game boy resonates big time...I got DKL2 as a gift from my babysitter for being the ring bearer in her wedding--played it within an inch of its life! Still vividly remember unlocking the Lost World from Krusha for the first time...😎
I have a lot of personal love attached to the 64 game in 1 cart for the NES. We would spend 892 mins trying to get the disc to work to play circus circus for 5 mins lol
This is a very good topic! And hard to pick a game for this... must think a lot! MAYBE that Zelda 2 for NES is most personal meaningful to me. The reason is that when I was a kid and played it in a toy store before I even had the game and that game was brand new, and other kids stood around me and watched me play and I reached the first castle/dungeon and even beat that boss! And all other kids saw me as a hero/god and I felt like a hero/king of playing Zelda. And after I beat the 1st castle/dungeon it was time to go home. Such a wonderful experience! What can beat that?? And as always - your channel is so best! You're doing everything so good!
That legend of zelda intro from the first game on the nes, now that brings me to 1988 when I first got that game. Zelda games always take me back to my child hood memories. Also tmnt, castlevania and zombies ate my neighbors.
UN Squadron - I moved away from my childhood home and friends. The next time I saw them, the SNES had since come out and my buddy had it and was glued to it. I was hooked and grabbed it a quickly as possible. Ogre Battle - Rented it on a whim. Fell in love with it and kept renting it until the store let my but it outright. Phantasy Star Online Ep. 1&2 on Xbox - my best man suggested I try it one night. Ended up staying up all night online. Still play it every so often, but mostly on GC
My baby girl was born with a heart murmur & we had our last Dr appointment 2 C if she needed a heart operation or not & I just couldn't handle life on the way there, so I was on my 3DS the whole way there playing Mario Kart 7 way back in 2011 & we got the good news her heart healed herself & no need for further operations! That game by far is my most favorite game ever! If I got bad news would it still rank up there? Probably not. But here I am today & I still play this game almost every day because it brings so much joy to me. Also it has an easy reset feature!
My friend Mike and I used to play WWF Royal Rumber on SNES by (gasp!) LJN. It was actually a solid wrestling game as those who've played it can tell you, though mashing was definitely mandatory. Anyway, at the time he and I were big wrestling fans so we'd often play against each other or co-op against the CPU. But one of our favorite modes of play was to join the Royal Rumble with our two least favorite characters, intentionally lose, and watch the end of the Royal Rumble while rooting for and betting on who'd win. I collect games nowadays but Mike doesn't. That said, for his birthday last year, I bought him a nice CIB copy of the game and put it in a protective clear case. He has it proudly displayed on his desk.
skylanders trap team is my favorite game of all time for many reasons. back in 2014 when i was 8 everyone i knew loved skylanders. i personally had no interest until i saw some gameplay. from that day on i would constantly ask my mom to get me skylanders, but she would always say no. one day when she picked me up after school we were walking home and i was once again talking about how much i wanted skylanders when i saw she was carrying a bag full of skylanders trap team stuff. from that day on i would play skylanders trap team all the time, track down rare figures, play with my friends, have tons of fun. i still love the game all these years later and it is still my favorite game of all time
Dynasty Warriors 4 was the first video game that captured my heart. Me and my brothers calling dibs on characters we will use, creating chaos on the battlefield. Sure, the formula is repetitive, and the gameplay is the same every year. However, its simplicity and stress-free gameplay is what made me become a huge supporter and buy almost every title that would come out.
Bubble Bobble is a very special game to me. My grandmother on my moms side of the family really enjoyed it. She passed away when I was around 5 or 6 years old I think. But some of my earliest memories are of her and that NES.
Most are the typical NES games played: Ninja Gaiden 1 & 2, Mario 1, 2 and 3, Batman: The Video Game ( one of my favorites of all time), ect.. But Bugs Bunny's Birthday Blowout is another. Simply for nostalgia reasons.
A Bug's Life on PS1. There is absolutely nothing special about that game but I bought it because of the memories I had playing it with family. We had driven across the country on a multi-day trip to visit some aunts/uncles/cousins, and they spoke only spanish, no english. Us kids, vice versa. So it was very difficult to communicate with our cousins. A few of us took turns playing A Bug's Life on their PS1 since it was something we could do together and understand together.
I distinctly remember playing Alien vs Predator 2000 on PC with my cousin on the good old 56k modem against other people all through the night. Substitute Airheads with a Costco sized jar of Spanish olives. Why? Idk they were there lol. We had tons of fun. It was the first online multiplayer game we ever played. Another game or games that were very sentimental to me was the Super Star Wars saga on Snes. This was a time when star wars wasn't all that popular anymore in the early 90s. All we had was the nes games, snes games, and Dark Forces. The Thrawn trilogy was brand new too. When I beat the first super star wars game, I literally felt like a Jedi. There was no password system, so you had to beat the game in one sitting. Thank the Force for passwords in the other two. And if anyone has played them, they know how difficult they can be.
Diddy Kong Racing was the first game i got, along with my N64! to this day i complete it 2 -3 times a year, always picking another Character! (beating Wizpig with Krunch is one hell of a challenge) i listen to one of its awesome songs almost every day and it introduced me Banjo the Bear! starting my passion for the best videogame of all time: Banjo-Kazooie! hey man, i love your videos so much!
Gameboy in particular was a longtime companion of mine from the moment I got one. My family took regular road trips when I was young and Gameboy helped alleviate the boredom. Since those early days I've always had a Nintendo handheld at my side, even when I don't really intend to be playing it.
The original Final Fantasy has a lot of meaning to me since it was the first game I ever beat and I beat it a lot of times because of how you could choose your different party members. I also had great memories of playing rock ‘n’ roll racing with my best friend And between the soundtrack of that game and the announcer and the things that he would say became very memorable. Like Jake likes him up. Other games that had that special spot later are Diddie Kong racing and Mario 64 and 007. And the PlayStation one had some real memorable games like resident evil two. I’m not even gonna get into my story on that one will keep it clean for the kiddos.
A little off topic, but many of my fond memories happen to be of games with excellent soundtracks, such as Castlevania, Mega Man 2, Zelda, Pocky & Rocky...
The game that got me into gaming was Alexx Kidd in Miracle World, getting that true ending as a kid was a glorious moment for me. The most revolutionary game first playing was Mario 64. My gosh, actually running in a circle in front of Peaches Castle was seeing the future. But more recently it has to be Mario Odyssey. The nostalgia of Mario 64 but letting my son play with me for the first time was a magical experience seeing him 'Alexx Kidd' moment first hand
Just found your channel. Great content with personal experiences or opinions instead of sounding like a grade school book report on a topic. I hope your channel continues to grow. I'll be tuning in. Have a great day.
Grandma gave me Wall Street Kid for Christmas the year I got Home Alone from Santa. I had never gotten two games before and was surprised grandma even knew what a Nintendo was. It got me into buying Yapple stonks at an early age.
Snatcher was a personally prominent title for me. My brother and I rented a sega cd along with snatcher. I'd never played such an anime influenced, ultra violent, cinematic experience I'd never experienced as a 12 year old. Changed my prospective on games and got me further into anime. That's not to mention that it was kinda a genre in itself for console.
At the age of six or seven,(1986/87) my friend invited me to come over cause his older brother has a new toy for playing games on TV. its called an ATARI. when i got there iwas blown away. The older kidz played Pitfall and Demon Attack and Grand Prix. I had never seen something before and was only allowed to play for a few minutes but since this day i was hooked and i play Video Games till today:-) Most meaningful to me is Street Fighter 2(1992/93) and the Snes cause i bought it with my first own money working almost a year as a paperboy:-) sooo proud... wonderful times
Aside from the games I make myself aka the best games on this planet my most personal game is VTMB. That game replaced and when needed replaces the real world.
There's a lot of games I could say are meaningful to me, but I think the most meaningful for me is probably Super Mario World. I remember my grandfather having it on the SNES when my family would go up there, and as a kid, I was enamored by the colorful visuals and music. I later got it for the GBA and fell in love with it, so much so that it got me into trying other Mario games and honestly kickstarted my interest in gaming in general (particularly retro and Nintendo games).
Donkey Kong Country sticks with me on the SNES. I remember playing this game and loving the graphics along effects in the game. I believe it is the only system I would not sell in my current collection. My kids also love the same games.
Playing Double Dribble on the NES with my cousin growing up in the 80’s was a memorable experience. 🍌 He also lived less than a mile from the Mall which had the Arcade and Garcia’s Pizza 🍕 joint right next to it.
Games Played: Diddy Kong Racing (0:01), NHL '94 (0:08), Battletoads (0:30), Rocket Knight Adventures (1:10), Donkey Kong Land III (3:30), Super Mario Land 2 (5:25)
NHL 94 I mastered that game like it was on the Master System. Ever though it was on the Genesis. I Mastered it.
Glad you like it and thanks for the compliments. I do it because I love the experiences that you all share in return.
Been a Mario fan ever since
Here's one for recent times:
I have a Game Gear that the Capacitors broke so I tried replacing them but I have no idea how to do that so I called up my pops and asked if he knew something about soldering. He came over and we worked on it together. Loved it great time with my dad.
Great way to bond with your pops!
Wow, such a cool grandma! 😊
Super Mario World got me through many tough months of bullying in middle school. It's my favorite game of all time, and I will cherish it for ever.
Such a classic!
That sounds like a great time!
The game most personal and sacred to me as to be Centipede for atari 2600. Got that console and game one christmas and i still have it and the console to this very day. Another great video RetroBird, and i always like what you had to say.
Glad you liked it!
Man I could write you a pretty long list of personally meaningful games and I would probably have to break it down by console, so I’ll spare you and just give you my #1
I got Ocarina of Time for my 13th birthday and completely changed the way I thought about video games. It was the first time I had ever been meaningfully, emotionally invested in a gaming experience. The perfect coming of age game as I was personally coming of age. Nothing will ever top that.
Ocarina of Time was a huge one for me too.
It's a good one for sure!
Good memories 🤣
Thank you for the excellent videos and discussions good sir 👍🏻
Hahah that's a great story. Sounds like you were a beast at GoldenEye.
Is it just me or is one mighty fine looking Gameboy at 6:42 ;-)
It sure is!
Maniac Mansion for the NES. I loved mansions.. so thought it was cool that I got to explore a mansion in a video game
You might like Resident Evil or Luigi's Mansion as well :)
@@RetroBirdGaming I grew up since then.. so Maniac Mansion is the only game I like for that mansion crave
Disney's Tarzan on the PS1 is the first game I ever played. To this day i still play it. I love everything from the music to the graphics to the gameplay. Always has a special place in my heart.
Great example! A game most people probably wouldn't think twice about.
Oh man, I really love this topic! It’s always fun to hear other people’s stories about video games. Especially retro video games!
Good to hear :)
Happy late birthday. I loved playing zelda with my friend and mega man 2 with my cousins. Thats why they're my favorites
Good times.
Ahhh.. Bed time with the bird. Lovely stuff :)
Hahah sleep well!
I remember spending lot of time playing video games with my brother I miss him a lot thanks for this video
Keep those good memories alive!
And once again, thank you Retro Bird for another awesome video game introspective...
I was expecting some blood on that green Game Boy. You did a good job cleaning it up.
Diddy Kong Racing was my first kart racer! Kart racers are some of my favorite games!
Tony Hawk’s multiplayer mode with my brother, one of the last times I really played a game with him until he got bored of gaming altogether
Too bad he doesn't still play. It happens.
Who framed Roger Rabbit on the NES is epic nostalgia for me. I love it! We didn't have a lot of money and I just happened to pick arguably one of the worst games ever, but I didn't know any better back then and really enjoyed any game I could play. I do remember hating ET tho..
Haha, those licensed games!
That's pretty sweet!
The voice acting in MGS still holds up even now imo
X2 was the only x game i could ever beat.
The fact that psycho mantis could read your memory card saves blew my brain I thought holy shit this game is the future of technology!
Worst team in the game, but we were good
253 likes 0 dislikes at this point. You’re killing it man. ❤️🎂🎈
I use to and still play resident evil 4 to this day, one of my favorite childhood games
Also, I love retro birds show, keep it up bro
The first rush for N64. Me and my brother spent hours going reverse on courses looking for all the great Easter eggs in the game, surprisingly has so many secret spots. This was before the internet so we found just about all of them and would just hang out with our cars there. Spent way more time doing that than racing! Also my cousin who passed away, the first time I met him we played smash bros on N64, I could never beat him because he knew how to use the special smash move and even when he shower me how to do it he was still more skilled. Video games hold a special place in time for me.
I spit out my coffee when I saw xenogears at the dinner table. Hilarious!
Yeah, it kept going on long philosophical tangents and barely touched its food.
That's terrible! I heard Breath of Fire 3 is a much better dinner guest!
Still vividly remember unlocking the Lost World from Krusha for the first time...😎
Haha all right!
That green game boy is sick and so is the kid using it as a weapon.
Happy belated birthday 🎂🥳 retrobird
Thanks :)
That legend of zelda intro from the first game on the nes, now that brings me to 1988 when I first got that game. Zelda games always take me back to my child hood memories. Also tmnt, castlevania and zombies ate my neighbors.
Pretty iconic intro!
People hate on TMNT on NES but I love it. Growing up I watched a lot of tmnt cartoons and when i saw the game for the first time, man .. i was amazed.
Now that's what I'm talking about with the editing! Great stuff!
Thank you my friend :)
Nice call on renting Ogre Battle! Overlooked and awesome.
Yeah, it's pretty nice to have a Game Boy as a companion!
Happy belated birthday!
Thank you!
Awesome stuff. It's like your gaming journey coming full circle.
Just found your channel. Great content with personal experiences or opinions instead of sounding like a grade school book report on a topic. I hope your channel continues to grow. I'll be tuning in. Have a great day.
Hey, thank you! Glad you're enjoying it and I'm really happy to have you around!
There's really not much like Snatcher. Great game for sure :)
I remember getting a ps2 and 10 or so budget title games for Christmas. Me & my cousin played Cel Damage Overdrive for hours. Great times!
At the age of six or seven,(1986/87) my friend invited me to come over cause his older brother has a new toy for playing games on TV. its called an ATARI. when i got there iwas blown away. The older kidz played Pitfall and Demon Attack and Grand Prix. I had never seen something before and was only allowed to play for a few minutes but since this day i was hooked and i play Video Games till today:-)
Most meaningful to me is Street Fighter 2(1992/93) and the Snes cause i bought it with my first own money working almost a year as a paperboy:-) sooo proud... wonderful times
Awesome memories!
Aside from the games I make myself aka the best games on this planet my most personal game is VTMB. That game replaced and when needed replaces the real world.
I also had a green game boy. Good times. I got it for selling enough popcorn in cub scouts. Less good times.
Kind of the same deal me and my friends would stay up til 4 in the morning playing Twisted Metal 2. God I love that game.
Great game for multiplayer.
Happy Belated Birthday.
Thanks :)
Playing Double Dribble on the NES with my cousin growing up in the 80’s was a memorable experience. 🍌
He also lived less than a mile from the Mall which had the Arcade and Garcia’s Pizza 🍕 joint right next to it.
Ahh, that's the perfect combo!
For me, it’s the original Spyro the Dragon trilogy!
