- Welcome to my channel! Guys my snake plant is screaming for help! I noticed one of the leaves was slumped over looking really sad in one plant, and in the other plant a leaf just came right out. Sanseverias - or as they're commonly known, snake plants - are notoriously easy to care for, but that doesn't mean there's things you may do that can be harmful. Watch me as I get to the ROOT, and save my snake plant!

Hi. I'm not sure you're aware, but the dust of dry perlite is very bad for your lungs, especially when it's dusting like yours did as you poured it in the pot. Should wear some breathing filter when doing that and/or doing it outside or spray the perlite with water before use so it doesn't dust. Good job repotting, the plant looks nice and healthy afterwards!
Definitely wasn’t aware of that. THANK YOU for letting me know!! Sometimes my daughter is close by when I’m repotting (not as close as I am) so I’ll make sure she’s no where near the stuff. I typically like to repot outside weather permitting. Appreciate the heads up and thanks for watching!!
best repotting video I found - It really helped to see inside the pot as you repotted, and to see the root ends that you deemed were good before repotting. Thanks (also, keeping to subject & not blathering off topic was welcomed😅) 😊😊😊
😂😂 thanks for the feedback! Glad you found it helpful ☺️
Omg did I just see you kiss the plant?? ❤🙏🥰 if so, that was adorable! 🪴
new plant mom here, and just inspected my newly rescued snake plant after seeing it with mushy leaves. Hopefully it’ll thrive! Thanks for posting ❤
I have to watch the video again, I didn’t realize I did that lol. Good luck with your new plant, and congrats on becoming a new plant mom! 💚
Thank you for this video! I love how the new container turned out! Today I rescued a very large overgrown snake plant from the nursery. It had alot of bad leaves and literally was sitting in a pool of water! I sat it outside for a few hours in the hot, humid weather to dry out, after 4 hours the bottom is still wet! 😡. I’ll try again tomorrow. I pulled off all the bad leaves (water logged) and surprisingly the plant is still very large and looks great cleaned up! I will wait a long while to repot. I want it to get used to its new home. 😊. Thank you for the video. Just subbed!
Thanks for watching! It’s always great to find a rescue. Once you clean it up and give it a little TLC you’re rewarded with a beautiful new plant. Good luck! 😊
Root rot can also occur with too much standing water. Even of you mix perlite and the water doesn't evaporate too quickly, its gonna cause problems. Make sure when you water your snake plant, its top soil should be dry in 2 or 3 days after watering or it'll cause issues
Yes I’ve been monitoring my watering of this plant
How to dry soil of snake plant in two to three days
Thank you ! I just did this to my snake plant, and to watch you do it was reassuring.
Thanks for watching 💚
Hello I have the same issue 😢my mother’s snake plant 20 years old , I need to save it or I am going to live with it for the rest of my live, she passed away few months ago I am devastated I hope that mine will survive just like yours. Thank you 🙏🏻🫶
Thanks for watching and I’m sorry for your loss. Hoping you save your plant. If you have to remove the damaged leaves don’t be afraid to do so. Or you can propagate the healthy leaves. 💚💚

Thank you so much, I did the same thing you did, hoping and praying that she will be OK. I did that yesterday. It took me a few hours but I accomplish what I saw in your video. Thank you so much. I did not subscribe but I will now because I was in a rush. God bless you.
I'm sorry for your loss. I would like to add that you propagate even small healthy parts of leaves. It's almost always possible to bring a snakeplant back to life and regrow, just takes a long time, but it's worth it when the plant has sentimental value. You can find tons of videos on how to propagate even from small cuttings. Good luck!
Great video! I’m going through the same issue with my snake plant. I know how to fix it now thanks to your video.
I hope you're able to save your plant! Thanks for watching 🙂
I'm going thru this right now. Thank you for this video!
Oh no!! Hopefully you’re able to save your plant 💚
My issue was because i had a pot within a pot and forgot to drain the excess water out after watering. So there was standing water which almost killed my plant. I took it out and let the soil and roots dry in the sun for an hour. I also exchanged it to another pot that makes it more obvious when there is extra water. Thabks for the video
It’s a great thing that you caught it early!
Complete visual instructions. Thank you
Thanks for watching! 😊
Thank you for this video! I’m trying to do better with my snake plant. This really helped!!
You’re very welcome, and good luck!
Thanks because I thought my plant has root rot. I will follow your lead and get Perlite.
Thanks for watching, I hope it works for you! 🤞🏾
I have similar problem but not in pots. I planted them in the garden soil. I am thinking the soil is the culprit. What do you think should I do?
I’m not too sure how to tackle this one. I’ve never try planting directly in the garden. Hopefully you’re not overwatering which was the problem I had.
Hi Jersey. How soon after repotting did you water your snakey?
Haha your comment made me laugh 😄. Trying to remember if I watered this one immediately after but don’t recall. Typically I try to repot when the old soil is really dry so I can water it after repotting. Hope that helps!
@@JerseyWifeJerseyLife Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it.
Could have been nice to have caption on which and what mixture were you were adding and mixing
Good luck and good care.
Water in high pot needs long time to dry, cause the roots rot.
Should I water it after repotting it or should I water it after an day??
@@Divesh_shinde I typically water right after I repot BUT only when my soil is completely dry.
@@JerseyWifeJerseyLife okay, thank you ✨
I had the same probkem and did the same thing 2 weeks ago before watching this video. How long does it take to reroot and grow
It will still take some time to see growth. I’m unsure how long it takes to re-root but as long as you’re not seeing too much shock (i.e. droopy or discolored leaves) then your plant should be happy. Good luck!
Just curious why you thru out the leaves out?
Are you referring to the mushy/damaged leaves? If so I’ve tried propagating a snake plant in the past and it didn’t work out for me
@@JerseyWifeJerseyLife funny lol that’s why I asked cause I’m trying that process for first time 🤞🏽
@@10thlaw40 good luck!!! It’s possible but takes time ☺️
@@10thlaw40 Actually me too hah
@@JerseyWifeJerseyLife I've been trying to get save this one for probably a year. One last leaf left, one last time i'm gonna try.
What’s the power?
?
The bag you use to mix with the soil and the bag course mix
@@tracimc474 Ah, that’s perlite ☺️
Maybe you might need a water meter...
Update please?
I gave this plant away. It’s been almost a year since this video and it’s done well this entire time. But a month ago the leaves started to yellow again. I don’t think it was root rot though I think it had more to do with the location where I had the plant in my home. I moved earlier this year and still trying to find a spot in my new home where my plants won’t freeze to death 😥
If it is Root rot, is there a smell that comes with it? Like a rotten smell.
That’s a great question. In my case it didn’t have a smell. But I have seen other videos that described smells that were a result of root rot
Thank you! Very well documented, I think that’s exactly what is going on with mine. I’ll be repotting it this weekend if I find the same as I am sure I will 🥴
Thanks for the feedback! Hopefully yours isn’t as bad, but once you repot and give it a fresh start you should be good to go 😊
