Ben Platt now has about 3 albums out now! Voice is angelic. Fav. Thanks for this. This play hits all of us and especially this generation. It deals with social media, peer pressure, suicide, parental issues, depression, popularity, in a creative and beautiful way. One if the best musicals I’ve ever scene and I’ve seen 30+!

I'm glad you reacted to this. Ben Platt won a Tony award for his performance in this show (basically the highest award for musical theatre). This was a performance from the Tony Awards I believe, so you can hear how the audience was loving it.
As far as his talent goes... he is phenomenal. There's a line in the song - When you're falling in a forest and there's nobody around, do you ever really crash or even make a sound? That line literally repeats four times in a row. Which sounds like it would be repetitive but I'm betting you guys didn't even really notice that - because Ben sings each line with a different inflection so well that it almost sounds like four different lyrics, even though its just repeating the same thing over and over. That's just how good he is when it comes to performance.
I've seen the show Dear Evan Hansen 13 times live on stage and it's an incredible show. Yes there is a movie, and the movie is alright.... but it's nothing compared to seeing it live. This is just one of those shows that is best with a live audience. If it ever tours again and you get a chance to see it... go.
It's not so much a show about bullying, as it is about anxiety and believing in yourself, overcoming obstacles. There's a lot more to it than what you guys have seen here, in the show Evan ends up lying about a kid who commits suicide and becomes a sort of local hero (based on the lie that he was friends with the kid). He is wracked with guilt but because this lie allows him to have friends and popularity, he struggles with giving that up by telling the truth and fessing up. In the end, he finally does and faces the repercussions. But through it all he learns the importance of being able to love yourself, through all the flaws. That's really what the show is about.

Also fun fact - even though Anna Kendrick didn't actually break Ben's arm lol. That is in fact a very real cast, that Ben had to wear each night during the show. It's legit and it has to be sawed off during intermission each night (he doesn't have the cast in the second act). During the national tour, the actors would often gift the cast to fans at the stage door after each performance. A unique gift for some special Dear Evan Hansen fans.

I’m a 35 year old mother and can totally relate. The black sheep of my immediate family. I swear you could be a fly on the wall at gatherings. I can try to talk and engage or start a conversation and it’s like I’m not even there.

Wow 😂😂😂 this isn't America Idol...it's the Tony's and he's been on Broadway for years...including the musical from the song you just reacted to. I know people like to do honest reactions but a little research would prevent you from sounding stupid. Also, I'm pretty sure American Idol doesn't have seated people in evening wear.
