So flood prone tropics and you don't elevate the roads or houses, can't cure stupid I guess

Bingo! The roads are very poorly constructed because too much money goes to roads in Brisbane area or SE Qld.
Civil engineers have been singing the same song for the last 50 years, and nobody listens in Brisbane.
They don't give a rats ass about us in Nth Qld, except when they want to come up for a holiday.
Then they say, "Your roads are shit - ours are better". Well no shit numbnuts!
We are all Australian, but Nth Qld always seems to get the worst deal in Australia.
Australians need to scrap State Governments and just have Federal Government and Local Councils.
Wayyyy too much money being wasted at the State level, and they do SFA.

High set stump houses used to be the norm. But you know, modern fashion is more important.

@@raclark2730 100% True, but Governments should set the standards according to climate in the area. The problem with High set houses today, is the laws surrounding 'Working at Heights' are highly restrictive, which slows the building process, making everything more expensive. Form Ply Floors on Concrete Stumps set 3m high above ground level would go a long way to making things more water resistant, and Colorbond Insulated Panels for Walls and roof would make everything more energy efficient.
It would seem that 'sensible' ideas are not encouraged, but rather are discouraged by local building inspectors, and those who are set to approve new homes. Government is not keeping anyone safe, they are killing us slowly, and the poor state of roads with pathetic foundations, cambers, culverts and drains only makes localized flooding worse than necessary!

@@delawarecop Ah that figures it would have something to do with the pencil pushers. Fixing everything except what needs doing.

This is what sets Queensland communities are like, they will support their neighbours regardless of stature and especially help those truely in need of help as we have all been through this so many times and our resilience will never waver no mater the obstacles put in front of us.
