Lyrics :
Enjolras
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!
Combeferre
Will you join in our crusade?
Who will be strong and stand with me?
Somewhere beyond the barricade
Is there a world you long to see?
Courfeyrac
Then join in the fight
That will give you the right to be free!!
All
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!
Feuilly
Will you give all you can give
So that our banner may advance
Some will fall and some will live
Will you stand up and take your chance?
The blood of the martyrs
Will water the meadows of France!
All
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes
I get the chills EVERYTIME!!!
me too everytime!!!!!!!!
Yes always! It makes me get this stirring feeling inside of me. I don't know what but it makes me realize something....
Me too
Am I the only one who thinks THIS should be the French national anthem?
Well considering the revolution failed it would be a bit redundant.
How did it fail? It established France as a republic. They even executed the Royals with the infamous Guillotine.
Ultradalek7 Wrong revolution. Les Mis is set in the 1830s.
Really? Sorry, I had no idea there were TWO revolutions! you learn something new every day, I suppose!
Ultradalek7 Actually 3. 1789, 1832 and 1848.
the second scenes is really touching... there's hope in the heaven(:
All the brave people of Venezuela are singing in this moment... ¡Gloria al bravo pueblo!

This song should have been much longer! My favorite
Wonderful.. thanks for creating this... !

you do realize that everyone in the final scene are dead as well right? This is just an iconic scene to symbolize the fighting spirit of the people, don't take it literally.
This is what our world be singing about even Iraq cause we shouldn’t be scared of each other we are all people and we just want to live together in harmony together we shouldn’t live in fear we should be fighting for what is right even when the darkness will cower in our light we need together for our world and our people our fellow man

Hope that someday Thailand will be like this.
I cried my heart out listening to this song and think of that is happening in our country right now. This song really gives me even more courage to go out there and fight against corruption in our country.
Hope, darling. And strive for this. Greeting from Ukraine
and my homeland Vietnam too (:

Nowadays, Thailand seems like North Korea or others authoritarian countries. Be wore than last year. I have no idea why some educated citizen trust in dictator more than democracy, trust in M-16 more than population's need. And now our economic status is continuous decrease, banned from partner country. The leader is not only doesn't care but also participates with authoritarian countries.
Now I hope their power would melt them down.
Careful what you wish for, darling. Not all revolution ended up improving the status quo of a nation. From a view of the outsider, Thailand is doing well compared to, let us say my country, Philippines. Philippines, is in 5th Republic. After the '86 revolution, water and electrical services provision was transfered to the oligarchs. Now, we have the highest income inequality rate in ASEAN. Its not always in the form of government, its how the government look after the poor. If poverty is structural and intergenerational, there is wrong in how a country is run. You cannot be truly free if you are poor..."development is freedom". Gosh, I think I said to much. My apologies.
Every time I listen to this, I get chills and such
it is the music of the people who will not slaves again!!
It's a brilliant movie, a classic based on a super classic,
This song is dedicated to the protests going on in two different countries at same time: Venezuela and Ukraine.
it suits all our generation who hate stupid liars , i hope Ukraine learns from our stupid Arab fake dream and our stolen revolutions last 3 years
Hope that mexico rise up soon!
FLASH MOB-ing since 1789 :)
To the Chinese gov!
I'm a Hong Konger living in London.
Today is the 25th anniversary of the Tianmen Square Masscare. We won't stop fighting for justice, we will never forget the 89" demoracay movement, may all the heros who died for their country rest in peace!
I really hope you all may live in independence. It's a shame you guys are right next to China, one of the most imperialistic countries in the World!
This is my favorite song, followed by Little People and Look Down and Castle on a Cloud :)
this is true stroy in south of korea,

The massive scale of deceit, twisted facts, twisted thoughts and twisted words made by the HK government is a nightmare to the HK protesters.

Egyptian Rev. - 25/1/2011
me favorite movie and vivre la France🇫🇷vivre le Français
He didn't really show remorse: he showed and expressed a lot of confusion about how he's lived his life. He couldn't deal with the the fact that his beliefs might have been wrong so he offed himself and suicide, especially back when Hugo wrote Les Miserables, was a mortal sin so I'm guessing he didn't make it to heaven.
Well I believe she does, thats why she was in love with Marius, because she liked his devotion to the cause, she died for him and for the cause...just my opinion
for panem !
I like enjorus
Why did Cossette smile when her father past away?
2:24
I think that the accents fit better in the song then any other person or group in America.
When the song is first sung on the day of the rebellion, why do you think Eponine sings along? She doesn't really care for the revolutionaries' cause.
Respect for Kiev and for those enduring all the misfortunes for freedom.
I love this song. The ending is sad yet happy at the same time givig me an emotional welling tears
well at least they had one good song in this movie
Cena final simplesmente linda.
Does any of you have the lyrics of the final song? They change a little~
Does anyone know why Javert isn't in the last scene?
Thumbs up if you ALWAYS cry at the end. I know I did.
Will you join in our crusade, who will be strong and stand with me! Do hear the people sing, say do you hear the distant drums, this is the future that we bring when tomorrow comes!!! L'Aristos, il est plus tard que vous savez.

I am confused. What does veiws mean? My playlist is private! So confused...
It must be the national anthem of the human being
well , he was a righteous man but i guess his idea of heaven was no jean valjean ._.
can someone please explain the last schene to me i dont get it
cause all the people who died came back to sing, and for some awkward reason that confuses me idkw
it is to represent that though they have died they accomplished what they wanted and their spirit will forever live... they can finally rest in peace
they are a dead and that was the soul in another world
It's a representation of the February Rebellion, aka the French Revolution of 1848. While the rebellion in the movie was a complete failure (although it's lovely in romanticized literature), the February Rebellion actually ended the French monarchy for good. Showing the people who died in the film with the giant barricade (which actually was set up in Paris in 1848) symbolizes the idea that they didn't die in vain; their dream for freedom lived on and eventually the people of France overthrew their oppressive government.
I mean, not for good. Remember Napoleon?
I don't think that's a smile... although it looks like, sometimes some expression that you make when you cry look like you're smiling but you're not, you should look at her eyes and see in there some pain.. excuse my english :)
When I watched this movie when it just came out, I was just out of jail, it is totally not the something because i kind-of deserve what I had, but it was kind-of funny.
Dear Brazilians. Just di THAT1
A music about Frenchmen in a British accent how ironic
Does Jean Valjean die in the end?
yes , you can see that he met "Fantine" and The Bishop who showed him the way of love and good after his heart was full with hate :)
VIVA EUROPA !
He wasn't one of the "Miserables"...
If they truly wished to honour the memories of the soldiers that made the ultimate sacrifice, (which was brought about by a feud between the inbred monarchies of Europe).
Each poppy should have printed upon the leaves, poems written by the soldiers witnessing the horrors of war. We would remember them every 11th of November by reciting poems soldiers authored. Nationwide over the tannoys in railway stations, city and town centres, government buildings, hospitals, public services.
Such a commemoration is befitting, unlike the charade of actors whom politicians, leaders and monarchies engage in annually.
But, such a commemorative effort would undoubtedly disabuse the gullible and dissuade the ignorant from becoming another victim by child grooming predatory army recruitment sergeants using another generation of cannon/drone fodder child soldiers.
War is to deprive the revolution of its energy, intrinsically the youth. From upending the current head of state, monarchy, oligarchy, plutocrats, despots, juntas and principalities.
Ignoramuses, bigots and the naive are imbued with patriotic fervour, and championed by MSM useful idiots. As they sacrifice themselves in a foreign land. For the hidden hand, consequently culling the herds to a manageable level, and nullifying the power of a generation.
Hence austerity, economic war is engineered and imposed upon the populous, this occupies the minds of young and old. Depleting their savings and diminishing their standard of living. Government and media recycle sophistries and canards to instil a state of insecurity.
People begin to act selfishly, and individually, rejecting unity. Thinking irrationally they adjust to the a new reality thanks to austerity, a life of subsistence, rationing, insecurity, this privation, living on the precipice of life.
Keeping them in a perpetual state of anxiety, on the cusp of insanity. Undermining any attempts that have the potential to unite people in a universal plight in resisting the imposition of inequities, the status quo. Expending their time, energies and projecting frustrations at foreigners as invaders, threats, reaffirmed by the gutter press, that had beaten the drums for war, are now providing you with scapegoats.
Another welcomed distraction for the influential few, that escaped the dole queue, the bank bailout crew. We're in the penultimate year, marking a decade of austerity, that fait accomli. No referenda, no mandate, we were silenced, provided with the necessary distractions and obfuscations.
Donald Trump played this at one of his rallies. I was hoping they would perform it at his inauguration tomorrow.

СЛАВА ГЕРОЯМ ВОССТАВШЕГО ЛУГАНСКА И ДОНЕЦКА!
You mean the priest?
There is something that is not sitting right with me about the setting of the song. It is at a funeral. Is there no respect for the dead? For their family who is trying to say their final goodbyes? I cannot forgive this disrespect, no matter who it is who is actually dead.
They are not disrespecting, they are in fact using the time of death of their revered and beloved leader Jean Maximilien Lamarque as a trigger to launch up the Paris Uprisings of 1832 called June Revolution.
[Victor Hugo's novel Les Misérables includes a fictional account of the brief uprising which followed General Lamarque's death. In Les Misérables, Hugo views Lamarque as the government's champion of the poor. Hugo says that Lamarque was "loved by the people because he accepted the chances the future offered, loved by the mob because he served the emperor well". Hugo portrays Lamarque as an emblem of French pride and honour:]
Arijit Upadhyay I might have to retract my previous statement, with this new information in hand. However, just to be perfectly clear, I believe that the year was 1832, not 1932.
AlphaByte73 Yes ,that was a typo, have edited now. Thanks.
It was a highly charged emotional time in France's history. This scene reflects what actually happened at Lamarque's funeral, which devolved into a riot.
