I realized I never addressed the deer carcass. It was partially decomposed, directly in the trail, antlers sawed off. I had second thoughts about camping there because I wasn't sure about being in a place where a deer may have been poached. I decided to stay, what would you have done?
it could have died naturally and someone came upon it rotting and decided to salvage at least the antlers??? i would hate to think some fool is murdering deer and wasting all that meat, bone and fur :(
Another 2nd timer! 😉 You know, I have come to this conclusion.....your camping channel is a diamond in the rough, and is one of the most under-rated. It's just me, but I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would not find your channel a real joy to watch! Just my two cents! 😉👍😃
Ice "sings". I used to go to Austria to ski and their lakes freeze and make sounds that can heard throughout the whole valley, very very powerful nature.
Haha that's the literal exact reaction I have when I see a dead animal in the woods. It's like a deep, primal startle. No idea what those lake sounds are! The way it came through on my TV sounded like a phone on vibrate ringing in the next room, I thought I was goin nuts for a second, really eerie.
The sounds are from presser making the ice crack and move. I have spent many nights on big lakes in Bob houses and the ice would move so much that some nights the shack would only be on 2 or 3 Jack's out of 4. We would have to reset in the mornings. We would never worry though because it was just making more ice.
My general cooking on the campfire trick is this. Since you can't control the heat, control the pan instead. I will toss my potatoes in and add about an ounce of water. Then after it boils away (and steams the potatoes or whatever) I check the the food. Needs more time, in another ounce. I just keep doing that until the food is cooked or almost there and THEN sear it how I want it. Just keep a little water in the pan and you can cook ANYTHING over the hottest fire which is nice cause sometimes the hottest spot is the only spot in the fire you can set your pan reliably.
A little advice on the cooking, always cook the vegetables that take longest first, potatoes, carrots, etc. Best is steaming, frying, slowly with a lid. Add onions and peppers when the rest is about half done 😃😬
I've been enjoying your videos Sam. I normally wrap my potatoes in tinfoil and bury them in coals 20-30 minutes prior to cooking my main meal that way everything cooks evenly and adds smoky flavor to it. Cheers.
That's the lake making ice getting thicker . Totally normal sounds also makes noise when it warms up . From the great lakes state of Michigan. Love your videos
That's the problem with frying potatos. You need to fry them on a low-ish heat for a LONG time before they are cooked. I put potatos on the heat about 30 minutes before anything else. Thanks for the vid. enjoyed it.
The sound is water moving under the ice and where there is a gap it causes a windchime effect. Freaky sounds though and made me move a campsite once before I knew what it was. Happy camping.
Haha thanks bud! I figured that was basically what it was. I don't think it came through so clearly on video but it was LOUD! I could see why you'd move camp.
