  • Welcome to season 5 episode 1 where this season we are bringing you personal stories and deep teaching into Curt’s book, The Soul of Shame. This week we are looking at the introduction section, The Story That Shame is Trying to Tell.
What is it about shame? Why is it that it just doesn’t seem to go away?
Moreover, what makes it so destructive? Is it its mechanics? Or is it because it gets so intimately tangled up in our stories? Not only that, but is shame always bad for us? To top it off, how does evil figure into the way shame becomes so much sand in the gears of our relationships, in both small moments and even in the public arena?
Together we’ll discover that the more we know about this topic-and how evil wants to use it to devour us-the more able we will be to overcome evil with goodness and beauty.

Getting the bathroom talk (post show footage) is the best! Made the whole show worth listening to!

I have learned so much from the content but probably what keeps bringing me back is the delight you take in each other's friendship - laughter is so healing!

Pepper suggests that we might need a different word for the good kind of shame which Curt refers to as a greif that leads to repentance. I like the word "contrition." See Isaiah 57:15. I have loved this podcast. Thank you for your work here. It is changing my life.

I’m with you Curt. I’m not quite as mechanically challenged but I have the same fears about any new project requiring me to use tools or fix anything. I’ve learned to use RUclips but still get paralyzed by shame and fear. I’ve even talked to my wife about how I haven’t earned my man card yet.

You fix people, not toilet seats! You fix people who feel like broken toilets!!!

Toilet paper is quite an appropriate comparison to shame!

In the example of speaking meanly to Phyllis, Pepper brought up her shame should be different than yours, or perhaps non existent?
