We're just not there yet. Some dude on a Vespa is gonna taunt the E-1: "Why don't you get a real bike, pansy???"

Big shocker, it sucks. Be surprising to see another model year of this disappointment scooter.

Epic fail. The green scam continues with horrendous battery ranges that are laughable. The biggest irony? Electric unicycles can get a range over 200 miles with the top end models if you go at the breakneck speed of only 20mph. They cost a whopping 4-6k and somehow get up to 80mph but will drain the battery and cut out since they're prone to malfunctions. The greatest irony? Motorcycles are far better for the environment than a standard vehicle. The fact the E1 only gets up to 40 miles in range is laughable. These vehicles are way too heavy as well and can't offer a competitive advantage in any way to a high-end electric unicycle or electric scooter.

@thechampagneroom1 I don't get why these bikes clock in at 300lbs. That feels like a majority of the problem. Give the battery a good workout every year and it won't go two years without needing to be replaced. Battery replacements are ludicriously expensive too. Don't even get me started on repairing electric vehicles. I've had a lot of car friends and junior mechanics, they despise electric cars. They're a lot simpler than combustion engines but are heavily anti-right-to-repair. I could be wrong in this case since all kawasaki motorcycles and dual sports have owner's repair manuals.

@@MisterN1 I get that it sucks but with all the bad press electrics already have due mainly to Chyneeze manufacturers doing things like leaving out a BMS or charger safeguards. The industry definitively needs to avoid a chain of home repair catastrophes.

With all due respect the vast majority of the commenters are not aware of what Kawi is trying to achieve here.
The simple fact is that E motorcycles will never (unless there is a huge change in battery storage/output density) compete in sustainable performance with their ICE counterparts.
Unlike a Tesla or other fast electric car, bikes have a much greater wind resistance to mass ratio. This means that the ability to recover energy on repeated quick start/ stop cycles is much less so the only way to gain more repeatable power is to add more batteries which of course cost a Ton of money, and in addition this also adds a huge amount of weight which greatly reduces the performance gains.
There are a bunch of decently performing electric motorcycles...... but they retail for 20K-50K and of course they still can not compete with ICE bikes costing 1/4 the price.
Meantime there are a lot of new rider/commuters who mainly use their bikes to drive around town or back and forth to work. Most of the current crop of E motorcycles currently available are junk chyneeze bikes with 70s technology in the frame and suspension and very sketchy low grade motors.
I applaud Kawi for producing a bike to fill this niche and hopefully they are able to market enough of them to make the venture worthwhile.
