  • Can you really develop raw land into a homestead with little to no budget? How can you buy cheap land? And once you get that cheap land you can't leave in it...its too CHEAP!! So how do you clear land with no budget? Or how do you build that off grid bug out location on a budget?
    FRIENDS!!!!
We are blessed some amazing friends that wanted to come and help us develop our homestead in exchange for some fun camping!! We traded labor for hot dogs and smores! Yay baby smores!!!!
Our amazing friends busted their tale to make a raging cinder block fire pit!! This was a great way to do some camp out cooking on the pit and grill some grub!
Also during this time we had a chance to try out the new Ego 56v Power+ 15" String Trimmer. Yep!! We used a brushless cordless string trimmer weed eater to cut down our crazy weeds here at the future Texas homestead build. This thing is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!

We did the same thing in Wyoming 4 years ago except our 16x40 2story is built in the end of our 40x80 shop

You should leave as many trees as you can with your plan,

+Patricia Skimland oh yes we totally will! I think after consulting with our designer Pete (ruclips.net/video/gMPQu1f9JDU/видео.html) .... Our new plan is just to set the swale lines and clear only those trees that we need in order to dig the swales.
Our first plan was to clear everything. This should be much faster and affordable.

You all need some pigs. They root through the top layer of dirt. I hope I get this fortunate when it's my time to buy land. Such fun it looks like you all are having. ~Smile!

Ciecie, You're totally right. Pigs is one of our top livestock pics for this property. In the grand scheme, we have plans for some nut trees in addition to the oaks that will drop tons of food for pigs. Keep watching for those additions as we move out there, settle, and develop. I hope these videos give you some inspiration for when it IS your time to find your perfect homestead! --kelly

I can't believe you shot toward your neighbor's structures/barns. Too close to those structures to shoot in that direction.

    • @BetterTogetherLife
      @BetterTogetherLife  6 лет назад

You have no idea about our property. There is ZERO neighbors or structures ANYWHERE in any direction where we were shooting.
But good on ya for commenting.

Better Together Life Build a bullet trap man. Its a pewnie .22 but it still travels. Just dig a dirt mound to have behind your targets and make sure its clear in whatever direction youre firing a good long way. Theres always some dummy hitting someones house or barn here.

a possible suggestion for clearing the land would be to get a portable horse pen, electric fence with solar charger, and get a few goats. I've seen goats clear underbrush by acres a month.
when we cleared our raw land, I cut all the big trees, and processed them mostly by hand. but pulled the stumps and pretty much ground up the scrub while tracking around.

I know right?!?! Goats is definitely in our plan...but we live 2hrs away. Although our neighbors with the donkeys have goats. I just need to meet them! Ha ha.
But yes you are correct, turning brush and poison ivy into goats milk and "meat" is on our list!
Although I don't necessarily like the look of our neighbors place. They mismanaged it and it and there is nothing but dirt now. So I certainly want to use goats in a more strategic and temporary way.
Thank you for the great comment and thank you for being along with us on this journey!!!!! :)

When we looked for something to buy in another state we moved out of Northern Minnesota and we looked at a number of states where the taxes and land costs were cheap and I took that into consideration along with the climate and I wanted something that still had the four seasons but not as cold as Northern Minnesota and also that the Summers weren't humid that's why we picked Wyoming much more moderate Winters and Summers and longer Springs and falls

+ihavehotmail2 Oooooo! That's a hard one. It took maybe 2years for us to get on the same page.
I am planning on releasing some more educational brooks, videos, and blog posts about how to buy land...one of the top things is a Reality Check. We had to do just that. But as soon as I compromised with my bride is when she started to see the possibilities for our family.
But YES!!!! We will def have Kel being in many more videos coming soon. :)

+ihavehotmail2 Just recorded something today..._and we briefly speak on spousal compromises. But...it's tough. Very tough. :(
Took us 3+ years to get on the same page.
