I'm about to end this whole Kendrick is not consistent narrative everyone keeps pushing.
    Kendrick Discography:
2009 he drops the self title EP
    2010 Overly Dedicated
    2011 Section 80
    2012 Good Kid MAAD City
He took a short hiatus in 2012-2014
    2015 To Pimp A Butterfly
    2016 Untitled Unmastered
    2017 DAMN
    2018 Black Panther
    He took another hiatus 2019-2021
2022 Mr. Morale and The Big Steppers
Both hiatus he was busy touring off album success. When the truth is laid out that is consistent. Everyone keeps measuring him against how Drake drops music every year but the music mostly mid with a few bangers. That's not how he operates, he is in his own lane but when he drops his music it is consistent he never disappoints his true fans.

As someone who has been a fan since the early days, Since the section80 . However, it's important to recognize that artists evolve and experiment with different styles. In contrast, Drake's frequent releases may not always be well-received, but they do keep him in the public eye and contribute to his overall popularity.

How they define the king of hip-hop is so weird; I've never seen discussions on it be handled like this. The king of hip-hop primarily has to do with one's qualities as an MC, not who you feature, how much music you put out and how popular you are. If that is how people will argue for the position of the 'king of hip-hop', then Drake is the ultimate king of hip-hop, and no one can compete against him. Mcs like Nas would have never been in such an argument. With this logic, I'll also go as far as to say that guys like Future and Travis Scott are closer to being the kings of hip-hop than Kendrick. This logic is so weird and flawed

The problem is that Drake has not, nor has he ever been hip-hop. Drake is an entertainer who does not come from the culture of hip-hop and that is fine. Where he comes from is OK. It just is not hip-hop culture. You don’t have to be, the US to be hip-hop, but you do have to grow up in a certain lifestyle and Drake simply did not grow up in the culture of hip-hop. He is pop music.
The fact that it even got to the point that people were lying and saying that this man who is clearly cosplaying the negative aspects of what he believes to be black culture, had anyone cosigning him as hip-hop is what is sad. The industry wanted Drake to be the face hip-hop because while they like some hip-hop, they don’t want to hear the type of truth about the culture Kendrick speaks about. They pushed that false narrative with Drake about the culture. The problem is that the industry kept pushing artist on us like Drake so they can hijack the culture . The culture already knew that Kendrick is the king of hip-hop and has been for several years. The industry just had to get out the way with their smoking mirrors propping up Drake..

I must be out of touch cause I thought it was consensus that Kendrick's been the king of hiphop for the past decade. Drake has been the most dominant artist, yes, but never the voice. I guess the time leading up to Mr. Morale allowed Cole and Drake to change the narrative, which is fair. I mean the album was partly about the weight of the crown, lol. I guess this is part of why people counted him out during the beef. Actually, people thinking someone like Drake could be considered the king of hiphop is Kendrick's whole point.

  • @bene3895

I think the King of hip-hop fits Kendrick perfectly and he doesn't have to put out an album every year. Quality over quantity. Kendrick's albums are very critically acclaimed and I think that's very telling. He has so many songs for the culture that are impactful. Drake started off great with the albums he used to put out but now it's more like Drake is just releasing as much music as he can to fulfill whatever contract he has going on (his recent albums have not been hitting hard). If you all are going to determine the King of hip-hop based on how many songs/albums they have put out instead of how much quality, impactful, or creative work they have, then that’s interesting.

Kendrick took a 4 year hiatus because of COVID ( Mr Morale was supposed to drop in 2020). And all of a sudden, y'all say he don't know how to be consistent or do features. Stop listening to what Drake told y'all.
He dropped in 2010/11/12 each year with OD, Section 80 and GKMC. The last 2 are Gold and Platinum
then 2 years of touring and features ( whose Collard Greens for example)
    Then he Dropped in:
    2015 TPAB
    2016 Untitled Unmastered (mixtape)
    2017 DAMN
2018 Black Panther Sound track album
Doing number 1 each year ( with little to no promotion) and the 3 albums are platinum.
The hiatus from 2019-2021 then he is on Baby Keem album then he drop his own Mr Morale ( also platinum), before doing his biggest tour ever and 2 biggest tour in hip hop history
And now he dropped 3 of the biggest song of the year ( Like That, Euphoria, Not Like Us)
He was already a superstar especially since DAMN

Kendrick has everything to be the King of hip-hop. From my perspective, I also think it's important to have respect from the culture and those in the genre and this is something Kendrick has more than Drake imo. Drake is out here beefing with almost everyone and so many people in the genre have been seeing him in a weird way, so I am not sure how well Drake could be a positive leader of the genre. We can give Drake credit for his hits/streams/sales but that's not the only thing hip-hop is about. Drake has also been going back and forth with rap and pop music.
I also think with this title, you have to show respect for the genre, the culture, and the people within it (Kendrick embodied all of this and this should be highly considered). I want to give Drake credit for helping to bring out some new artists, but the thing with Drake is that he will think that you owe him your entire career, especially whenever there is a fallout between you two (he wants people to be indebted to him).
Also, Kendrick’s live performances are always exceptional, so I am not sure why you are comparing him and Drake. Kendrick knows how to move the crowd. He is well known for improvising and changing up lyrics creatively during his live shows.

Michael Jackson (King of Pop) did he release an album ever year? Prince & Janet had “ERAs” - The Artists Kendrick reveres would never release a watered-down, forgettable product to appease the masses. Drake’s last 2-3 projects have been trashed by critics and listeners (Scary Hours was made for a reason). You think Kendrick releases a project and then a few weeks later re-releases it to add more songs to respond to YT Reactors and Podcasters? 😂 Mr. Morale was released literally 2 yrs ago, had 5 visuals, and a Worldwide Tour for over a year. His most recent show before the Pop Out was in Mexico City THIS YEAR! 😂 He’s efficient! Not overexposed!

  • @smyamhd
    @smyamhd 3 месяца назад

The thing is why always put people UP only by riding their wave or giving features ? Like you can just co-sign them. DR.DRE and Snoop Dog co signed him and let him do his things 🤷🏾‍♀️
So I don’t understand this type of attitude where to put people up you need to always give features. Like FOR me J.cole is the one who really find GREAT rappers (Dreamville) and helps them create an artistry and let them grow, that for me is the type of help I personally think an OG should do. Drake can’t even help people from his camp, HE JUST AMPLIFIES rappers who already had a hype going on 🤷🏾‍♀️. And the thing I dislike is how when talking about those artist it’s always gonna be about Drake, I want people to talk about them for their music and own achievements not because Drake or Kendrick made features with them. Like it’s good for a start but at the end of the day if they make it ALWAYS gonna go back to who put them up 🙄. Give them a platform and let them express their art if you want to give a features in an album hell yes, but don’t ride their wave and make it about you.
And for me HIP-HOP IS NOT LIKE POP, the way some judges hip hop is crazy, especially rap, for me you are the king of hip-hop for your artistry of course mainstream matters but with how we make discussion about rap and hip-hop is just gonna change the whole genres of it. Because if tomorrow a rapper make it by talking about idk Yuno Miles type of vibe 💀😭 AND STAYS AT THE TOP FOR 10y just talking bs is he the King of Hip-Hop is that what’s really it’s about? The way people are judging music more about the buissness and not about the art form is just showing how people don’t care about what an artist say or how he make art as long the numbers are there then he is the most amazing artist. Popular dosent equal quality or greatness. Rap has never been about NUMBERS but more about the art form of it and if we could find a balance between those 2 you have great criteria but numbers should never matter most that the art form, because Rap is an art before anything 🤷🏾‍♀️.
And Kendrick had his run but it’s pretty funny how people like to forget it but whatever.
And I don’t want Kendrick to capitalize the industry as Drake did, that something pop artist do (that Drake goal and he did so), I want to have multiple artist who are going to put out great music without being afraid of not making it in the top 20 because the next Drake albums is coming (and sure they have to be ready for competition) BUT THE WAY Drake moved in the past with those new artist just showed that he wanted the light to stay in him 🤷🏾‍♀️. He made it impossible for others rappers to co-exist alone without him taking a bit of their light to put it on him (here is still my opinion). So yes Drake gave others artist more power but let’s not forget that it’s also a way for him to be in the LIGHT WITH THEM because I think he is scared of being forgotten when like HE IS DRAKE. He already in the pantheon of the greatest artist (not Mc for me but he is the same range as Kanye and Dre) so when he will accept that he is an OG and that he can be like Jayz he will be fine.
Because for me in term of body of art with only 5 albums (i think he only need one more or 2 certified classics) Kendrick is way better than Drake 🤷🏾‍♀️. Sure Drake has the numbers but in term of ALBUMS Kendrick has 3 of the best rap album ever made (imo), I still want a rap album from Drake where it’s really rap but I already accepted years ago that he is not that type of artist, Take Care is one the best hip-hop album but for me in term of rap album it’s way to RnB😬.
So for me Kendrick is soon to be 40, I want him to gives us 1/2 albums and then just go back to living his life if he want to focus on finding new artist or whatever. But for me Drake made us think he is that guy in terms of rap (for a looong looong time as someone who’s not a casual Drake listeners I thought he was an RnB singer like CB, this beef showed that he was a rapper) by staying at the top with his hit songs and for me the real last hit song from him is Gods Plan (imo).
I just want Drake to accept that he is an OG that he doesn’t have to ride every wave to be that guy. Jayz is that Guy, Nas, Lil Wayne, Dre, Snoop, Ice Cube, Andre 3k, Eminem, 50 etc.. those are some of the greatest ever. Drake doesn’t need to try so hard we already know how great he is. For many reasons I’ll never include him in my (personal opinion) list of the greatest MCs ever but artist wise he’s definitely there.
So yeah idk what y’all are expecting from Kendrick, i don’t personally want him to be a superstar or whatever. During this beef, hip-hop was soooo fun again (which seems weird how is Drake the King but isn’t able to shake the game on his own 🤷🏾‍♀️) we all wait for Kendrick albums or singles, he goes away but when he is here the game has more fun to it 😬 maybe Drake isn’t able to do because he is here every year both of them are so different!! I’ve never seen so many artist shine than during this year, i think the beef was needed because it’s kinda change everything, a lot of people had stop paying attention to men rap, the female artists are at the top of it (imo) and with this moment right here Hip-Hop just was soooo fun again. I hope that this moment will make others artist shine to put out their project and this summer is gonna have a lot of great art (Yg, Roddy, Mustard, maybe Metro and 21, future etc.. even new artist) like I just want NEW wave. Kendrick and Drake it’s fun but like people have to see that this is the end of an era and THEY CANT be at the top all the time, a NEW TOP 5 or 3 has to emerge. So this was the battle of titan, and both of them have legacy and this was just the result of 10+ of fight.
