I'm still in shock you only have 300 subscribers. These are some of the most interesting and well-made videos I've seen in a while. I hope 2019 treats you well as a content creator.
The jump cut to the snare kills me Everytime. But your genuine passion and knowledge of music keeps me glued. Absolutely earned a sub and I can't wait to watch this channel grow into fantano territory
I love seeing the early Micthesnare vs his newer stuff, the way his editing and writing have progressed, and that period of time where he was very orange.
MITSKI!!!! MIT 👏 SKI 👏 everyone should do themselves a favor and lock themselves in their house and listen to her entire discography it’s life changing
Just wanted to say right away regarding your description's rendition of the Top 10 that in actuality 'Somethin' About Kreay' by Kreayshawn would still score high rankings on any annual list ... Also, the transition into revealing what was at #9 absolutely knocked me dead. Had to stop the video to gather myself. that's the best kinda stuff. also love seeing you talk further in-depth on these albums for the year-end list, the presentation really made me feel like revisiting these albums again, and I found your description of a 'perfect album' really insightful ngl
Great vid & great list. Here’s my top 10 10. Mid Air Thief - Crumbling 9. Janelle Monáe - Dirty Computer 8. Kero Kero Bonito - Time N Place 7. Death Grips - Year of the Snitch 6. Pusha T - DAYTONA 5. SOPHIE - Oil of Every Pearl’s Un Insides 4. Daughters - You Won’t Get What You Want 3. Kids See Ghosts (Self Titled) 2. Kamasi Washington - Heaven and Earth 1. Earl Sweatshirt - Some Rap Songs
I agree wholeheartedly with Parquet Courts, Beach House, Kacey Musgraves, Janelle Monae and Father John Misty. Those albums really swept me off my feet (especially Parquet Courts). This is really the first year I've been looking at music critically and i'm glad I chose this year to start. Found some of my all time favorites in the process. Great Video. I need to make my list video. PS: I also sleep with my microphone as well.
My Top 10 1. Joy as an Act of Resistance. 2. Golden Hour 3. EL MAL QUERER 4. Invasion of Privacy 5. Low 6. OIL OF EVERY PEARL'S UN-INSIDES 7. Dirty Computer 8. Daytona 9. You Won't Get What You Want 10. Be the Cowboy
I just discovered your channel today and I think your production is top notch. That being said where is high as hope by Florence and the machine on this list? It is one of my favorite albums of all time and I’m surprised it doesn’t even get an honorable mention :(
My favorite of 2018 was Year of the Snitch. I almost didn’t like it at first, but I came back to it over and over and over again. It just makes sense to me, in a way that I can’t describe. It’s strangeness takes me to a place that is so colorful and abstract, that, it takes me out of any stress or worry I’m going through. Confuses me to the point of distraction and pure entertainment. I guess that’s music for ya.
I will never forget how shook I was when I listened to Virtue for the first time and Qurryus came on. All expectations were out the window at the point. He was no longer Strokes man.
I love these "7" puns. I also came to this realization when compiling my retrospective list, and I just decided to embrace it. Your analysis on perfection in art got me coming to the yee yee club bitch.
i'm a year late to the party but i loved this a ridiculous amount. thank you for renewing my faith in male music critics. can't wait to see your best of 2019!
Cool list! Saw some similarities to my list which was nice to see. Also I know I was in the same boat in that some of my favorite music was released by artists I either didn't know or didn't like until this year. My gf loves the Big Red Machine album and I suppose it's time I listen to it, too.
Oh hey, I have that Scarlett Solo as well! Oh, and also good list. I have disagreements but pfft. pffffft. pfffffffffft. It's your list. Also that segue into #9 was perfect.
Now Now! Yes! Great to see that album get some credit! I feel like it's easy to dismiss as repetitive -- I did, at first. I kept listening to it, because, despite the fact that a lot of the songs sound kind of the same, it's a sound I'm into. But eventually I realized, holy shit, I've never heard another album that reflects being obsessed with someone you can't have that well -- the religious feeling, the entitlement and the self-deprecation, the back and forth, and yes, the repetitiveness (seriously, I don't know how you could portray that aspect without that element). That album HURTS! Gets me in an unhealthy state of mind if I listen to it too much. Especially "Drive." Even so, my favorite album that year was The Oh Hellos' Eurus. I mean, I guess it doesn't count since it's an EP, but... Especially when taken together with previous EP, Notos, my God, it's the most lyrically sophisticated work I've ever heard -- progressive themes (in both senses of the word "progressive"), fantastic metaphors, motifs, intertextuality... And the themes! They tackle themes of fundamentalism and nationalism, and also humanity's feelings of separation from nature and the divine, only, "and also" isn't really right, because the two subjects are inextricably bound. Oh! And related to all that is the idea of natural cycles (which is in the EP titles themselves -- Notos and Eurus are two of the mythological Greek winds that change the seasons [there are supposed to be two more EPs still]). Seriously, they've been my favorite works of music since I first heard them, and they've only gotten more relevant. If I had to choose an actual album, though... Either Darlingside's Extralife, or Saintseneca's Pillar of Na (which I didn't actually hear for the first time until this year, but nevertheless).
Super late to this party, but no: I agree 100% with your assessment of Pure Comedy. It just fell flat as an album compared to Fear Fun or I Love You, Honeybear (my personal favorite). God's Favorite Customer was such a glorious return to Fear Fun that I nearly cried after listening to it. Disappointing Diamonds and Mr. Tillman are probably among my favorite tracks.
I actually kinda agree with you on Pure Comedy. There’s some highlights in the second half for me but overall It’s like a 7-8. I do own the vinyl tho and the packaging is 👌👌
Damn. Haven’t finished pure comedy. Actually got to leaving LA until I got bored and I was like 5 minutes away from my school. So I saved it, thinking leaving LA would just be the low light. Now, I am wary of finishing it.
No way you opened this video with Bicentennial and didn't mention The Fearless Flyers debut or Hill Climber (a top 3 vulf record!!!). I appreciate the Louis Cole inclusion, but you've let your funk fanbase down :( you'll get 'em next time
Pretty sure most people think god’s favorite customer >>> pure comedy for the exact reason you said in the video. That’s not a hot take at all. (great video tho)
Golden hour is vastly overrated the singing and production are okay and it’s has very little to no country elements it’s a pop album and don’t let the its rural phrases and the Grammys fool you
I can’t believe it’s been almost six years since this video introduced me to Saved, which has gone on to become my favorite record of all time. 🥲 Great video, it’s been a pleasure to watch your channel grow over the years!
I’m proud of Mike’s progress over the years. From crying in the shower, to crying in the shower, to Phoebe Bridgers.
hahahaha this
His name is nicolas actually.

I really appreciate that, I'm glad you enjoy them!
…and look where we are at the end of 2019.
Omg that is a CONTENT CREATOR
Wait, he had 300 by this review? Holy!
he hit 200k
Your point about Golden Hour being the country version of Emotion is bang on

Second that. Wanted to leave a comment like that but I couldn't find the right words.

This Kevin Federline album is a historical game change in music. A hug piece of art. Great that you put on this list, deserved.
I always miss out on what people list as the best albums of the year, during the year, but now I know where to start listening in 2019 😁
I just discovered your channel today and I think your production is top notch.
That being said where is high as hope by Florence and the machine on this list? It is one of my favorite albums of all time and I’m surprised it doesn’t even get an honorable mention :(
MicTheSnare continuing his golden streak of good content? It’s more likely than you think!

Your channel is so underappreciated
I will never forget how shook I was when I listened to Virtue for the first time and Qurryus came on. All expectations were out the window at the point. He was no longer Strokes man.
No love for ‘joy as an act if resistance’ by idles? But of a shame but still a good list. Keep up the good content
Guys, I think Mike likes indie rock.
His name is not mike, it is Nicolas
*”A STAR IS BORN”*
Came here to make sure you put Golden Hour as your number 1
I love these "7" puns. I also came to this realization when compiling my retrospective list, and I just decided to embrace it. Your analysis on perfection in art got me coming to the yee yee club bitch.
You're welcome to join, the yee yee club is open to all 🤠🤠🤠
No MGMT ? Ok, unsubscribed.

I swear this last bit when you explained how albums should be judged changed my life just now, what a thought! THANK YOU!
Damn, whoever gets to marry you or be loved by you would be so lucky...
The full list xD, Omg I remember when I hear that Kreayshawn album

Wide awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaake
Funny how Virtue might've foreshadowed The New Abnormal
Did you listen to the new Daughters album
I actually totally agree with you on Pure Comedy, God's Favorite Customer is LEAGUES above that record. It's not even on the same level honestly.
I actually kinda agree with you on Pure Comedy. There’s some highlights in the second half for me but overall It’s like a 7-8. I do own the vinyl tho and the packaging is 👌👌

God, youre so right about pure comedy! I'd say that the first 4 anf not 5 songs are AMAZING, but the reat kinda sucks, with a few exceptions
Omg 7 by Beach House yaasssssssss.

Pretty sure most people think god’s favorite customer >>> pure comedy for the exact reason you said in the video. That’s not a hot take at all. (great video tho)
