Prices based on ebay. They should have used EPYC platform... supermicro x10drl-i - 230 USD xeon 2699 v3 - 40 USD/cpu - 80 USD 32gb rdimm - 25 USD/dimm - 200 USD Samsung 970 EVO 2TB - 150 USD The main guts of the server are 660 USD
why would i do this when i can just use a regular mb with x16 slots. aliexpress sells the new riser card that uses two sas cables that transfer the data from the x16 slot on the mb to the riser card. a simple upgrade and a simple cpu that can support the needed processing for the pcie card and voila
Thanks for watching. Totally agree there are other options available. I prefer the server grade MB/CPU to get the most lanes if you packing lots of GPUs. I do like my DIY rigs better at this stage.
I have had mine up and running for a month or so now. And to be honest, I'm disappointed. Placed the order many moons ago at the start of my AI journey. If I knew then what I know now, I would have never purchased the thing.
Had fun building it. What you guys think of the Octoserver?
I still don't understand why they wouldn't use AMD EPYC. The xeon v3/v4 are ancient and use a lot of power.
@@ZaPirate Thanks for watching mate. Yeah love my epycs
#downunderkiingsman Dude... Flux is one of the OGs that keeps building & delivering... I'm so excited to see what it will look like in 5 years.

Very nice case with one exception - PCIe 3.0. Will that bus speed be competitive in the AI space ?
Totally agree a Gen 4 and X16 would really be best
Sweet looking rig! #downunderkiingsmen
