Disney tried to hire me plenty of times way into my 50's to work for them....BUT I turned them down. Every time! - Gatekeepers are history...I just got my first fine art solo exhibition at a major European museum, at age 67. Even better I sold my first fine art painting for 55K after being an illustrator, working in the U.S. for 40 years....There is much more to come. I want to paint at least 100 large-format paintings before I'll die! Yay! - Listen to Dries. "He rules!"
55K, that's impressive! I have a strange feeling that you should be the one on camera and I should be the one in the comment section haha 😆🤣 You are making my day with this beautiful elaborate comment. Thanks!
That's motivational, thank you 🙂 Being older has many advantages, one of them being not caring what other people think. I've always been told that I am 'artistic' but not good at art. Everything that Dries says about having your passion sucked out of you rings so true. Dries you are very insightful and your lesson here also applies to other parts of life too. Thank you for this channel :-) And by the way, I started at 59 😀
I'm 41 and starting to have the crazy idea that I'm an artist.
Back in the 1970s ,my art teacher claimed, " art is not a bread and butter job , you will never make a career from it , but it is good for your soul". This was before the internet was invented. Today art is not just good for your soul but good for your bank account. 🤗
hahaha... She was right and wrong at the same time.
@@driesketels , true.
This is so important. Thank you for speaking about it
You are more then welcome. Glad I could help.
Very insightful and intuitive.
Well said Dries . Everything you say is spot on and excellant advice.
Nice to see you again!
This is excellent!!
Thanks
40?. I Just turned 61 and my enthusiasm continues to rise ! I've embraced the digital world rather than be in denial of the expansion of possibilities. Am I successful? Financially, not so much. Just try telling my urgent to create to give up!
Luckily there's more to success then finances if you are happy and find your enthusiasm growing as you age you have a particular type of success that lots of people don't find at any age.
Ong I needed to hear this today
Glad you liked it. Wish you the best.
Thanks!
You are an absolute star!
Wow, I like this enough to comment!!!
Dries, excellent video as usual. Helps with the belief that working away from art for 20 years wasn’t all bad. Thank you again. Topsy
My pleasure! You've been a supporter for so long... If you ever have any questions or things you are struggling with, please let me know...
@@driesketels Thank you for your kind offer and I always enjoy your videos. Great information xxx
I’m 49 and not an artist but oh I love to play with shapes and colours. I’d love to create something that sells. 🤗
You can absolutely accomplish this. You got this
Hahaha… it’s like you made this video for me… 37 years old and I watch videos all day wishing I could post art/ make prints / website but I and waiting to have time to get better…
You are not the only one Kevin... We've all been there... The beautiful thing is that you can change it! It's all in your hands.
as 50 plus. This sounds awesome,
Happy to hear that Stephi
call me crazy, but im over 40 and ive just decided to keep my career as a PT and just post my artwork as a hobby. If it sells it sells, if it don't i can just have sex with a horse before i die and my kids can sell my artwork and cash in on my embarrassing and painful death
hahaha, sounds like a plan!
What an odd first choice as an option.
Real talk
Real talk for real subs
Late is when the feet are cold😄👌 everything else is normal
Well said. Hollywood found this to be true as well...success is about marketing. They claimed they guarantee a profit if the ratios were all in balance. It's an interesting topic, and explains the rise of sensationalism...a forceful appeal to reactionary impulses of human beings...and why it must grow by leaps and bounds...doubling and re-doubling like some viral fractal until finally 'all' merges into "the singularity"
I'm 61, I started making some cash selling art in my early 20s, and Ive been making art for a full time living since 98. The big differences between now and then?
Once I had energy and a future, and now it is the future - WTF happened?
All my get up and go has got up and gone.
No passion, no sex drive, and where did I put my keys?
Life happens faster and faster...
Get your hormones in order and let that 20 year old drive propel you.
Been trying to run art biz since 2003 actually started in 2018 but now it’s in the gutter and almost 40 . Just not sure what to do. RUclips videos I made are fun but the highest rated one is unboxing video 😒
And what about making another unboxing video? You don't want to make those?
Could you make more videos on NFTs maybe ? Especially on how to have a successful career in this domain. As a 21 year old artist, I procrastinate a lot due to a lot of reasons, but one of them is because of my fear of AIs that are able to create stunning art in a matter of seconds. I was wondering if artists like us would have a place in the metaverse... Thanks for all your videos !
I was actually planning on a video about AI, something like "how to sell your art when AI makes better & cheaper art".
@@driesketels Awesome ! And would you maybe make videos about NFTs careers at some point 😁 ?
I already have some videos about selling NFTs if you're interested... :) Perhaps I'll make some more in the future indeed
How about a 64 year old artist??
Same boat!
It is so interesting that in this time of financial uncertainty / recession / inflation, there is still a lot of $ out there. People spend money like it's water. You don't have to beg and scratch for money. I have not and perhaps will not make 10k a month on Insta but it's not because there's not 10k / month out there. I love this message Dries, really resonated with me.
Absolutely! There's always money to be made. This is the winning mindset.
Lol this is hilarious. You’re calling 40 year old old.
Hahaha, yeah that's probably inaccurate sorry
Thanks!
Thanks a lot, truly appreciated, you're the second person to do this ever! Made my day :)
