Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water ... A series about the struggle between good and evil, about love and loss ... About pain and friendship. But also about sexuality and growing up.
So much pain.. remember that trapped crewman was going to die and first tried to comfort Jean and then in the last moments of being human started to scream and plead that he didn't want to die? That was such heavy stuff.. thats what made the anime really special to me
@@freiflug88 the Motion Picture is its own thing as isn't even a compilation. There is a Japanese only three film compilation called "The Nautilus Story." Could be wrong.
To those thinking Disney stole the concept of this you're mostly wrong. While there are similarities between this and Disney's Atlantis, don't forget what this is based on. Nadia the Secret of Blue Water combines Atlantean beliefs (differing myths and stories that are common in Atlantis like crystals) Robinson Crusoe, and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and perhaps more. Saying Disney stole this is no different than saying this stole ideas.
And the two stories play out almost entirely different. For one thing, there's no Neo-Atlantian cult trying to take over the world. The villain is the exploration team the hero spent all his time with and were just going to sell Atlantis's power to anyone who could pony up the cash. "Atlantis" is more like "Dances With Wolves" mixed with "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," if anything.
Okay I've been watching this show and looking to see how Atlantis the lost empire "stole" from it and.... Its such a stupid comparison. This show so so so blatantly rips from Castle in the Sky in both visuals and tone, but I have yet to see a single mention of that. In this scene alone, the line pattern blocks and future tech all activated by a Destiny Crystal(tm), The goof as pirate outfits, ITS ALL THERE. SO BLATANTLY APED FROM LAPUTA. Atlantis the lost Empire is so vastly different in content and tone. At it's core its a an anti imperialism movie. I don't know, it just feels like anime fan highbrow criticism that doesn't mean anything.
Nadia didn't steal from Castle In The Sky, the original concept for Nadia was made by Miyazaki for a studio in the 70s but it was never produced (probably because production costs would be to high since it was a major problem later). Then Miyazaki took his original ideas and later made Castle In The Sky. However, the rights for the original storyline of Nadia were still owned by that studio and they later released it.

Atlantis and Nadia have different arguments, but it is clear that Disney's "borrow" full scenes, characters and even accessories from the protagonists of the anime. You said : you haven't read 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. In Nadia there are some very obvious winks and tributes to Verne, but they don't plagiarize entire scenes or character designs. In Nadia there are even many references and inspirations, but all accredited or confessed by Hideaki Anno: Verne, Miyazaki, Bruno J. Global, etc ... is not a blatant plagiarism like Atlantis

Disney stole this and made Atlantis the lost empire
Hum! There are similarities yet differences between, between both films you know, there's even a nrticle from July 2001 about this topic on the ANN!
Both this and Atlantis were taken from 20,000 leagues under the sea
@@julianfaranda And Nadia stole from "Laputa: Castle in the Sky".
@Josue Fine, then it all still goes back to Jules Verne, who Miyazaki AND Anno stole from.
@Josue And those ideas were stolen from somewhere else, because creative writing is just one long line of theft.
Oh look, another Japanese animated film Disney “borrowed” from.
Nadia was actually a 39 episode TV show (which was fantastic) before they made a condensed movie version that was lame.

Nadia was actually based off of another Japanese film called "Laputa" Castle In the Sky by Studio Ghibli, if I'm not mistaken
I'd rather refer to it as a general coincidence you hater

They even copied the character designs or the fate of the villain.
